Proud Mary doesn’t deserve the lack of faith its studio has in it. In fact, it’s almost good, so close to success that its flaws truly become frustrating.

Henson is the right actress to play a contract killer grown weary, but as a thriller Proud Mary doesn’t quite do her justice. It’s a connect-the-dots underworld trifle, watchable and minimal...though Henson holds it together and, at moments, comes close to convincing you that you’re watching a better movie.

Sassy black chick whips butt. Now, THERE'S something we haven't seen a thousand times! But wait... she also has a heart. Awwee, how original and unique is that!? Very predictable and typical role for Taraji P. Henson, which ultimately added to this picture's lack of surprises, and the official conclusion that Henson is indeed in a "type cast" rut!

There are countless openings for the plot to take wild left turns and embrace its overt severity as entertainment, but Proud Mary would rather stay the course of its one-note trajectory and remain earnest in its desire to be taken seriously.

The gang-war intrigue is strictly formula, and too much of Mary’s character development is delivered through expository dialogue.

There’s little coherence to its style and subtexts even if its plot is penny plain.

A studied but silly misfire from the director of the abysmal London Has Fallen that attempts to walk the walk without ever actually being a movie genre fans, or much of anyone else for that matter, would want to see.

Proud Mary did not screen for critics, nor should it have. It’s a copy of a copy of a mediocre original, with the drab aesthetics of a TV movie and the emotional hollowness of an infomercial.

While it has a good cast- it can't help the predictable, and a generic story that bogs it down from taking any risks in its own front.

By the looks of trailer I thought this will be a great action movie with an interesting story. It starts of really interesting storywise and you feel like the movie might be great, but then it slowly declines and gets quite boring actually. I mean besides the ending where the conclusion is, the rest of the movie, besides some action parts, was actually quite boring.

This movie could have been better. The cast was great. It seemed like no one was really trying to act and the storyline was all over the place. The way is the movie was described seemed off from how it went. They could have done better. It was like it was just thrown together.

It's just one long bore that just adds up to one big lie and unfulfilling ending. I thought this was going to be an action modern day blaxploitation. None of that. Not much action, mostly a bore, a bad edit or two (like how does one go from sitting to standing just like that?), and a predictable unfulfilling ending that I guessed from the very beginning that just leaves you saying, "Really? That's it?". This is just a waste of time, I'll recommend average movies as long as they're good enough but, this just crack it.
