Pure horror fans might object, but I found this model of M3gan, also directed by Gerard Johnstone, to be just as amusing as the prototype—with a firmer sense of what it wants to do.

I would be much harder on this movie if I didn’t have such a good time watching it. Admittedly, it’s ridiculous, but I absorbed all of its haphazard chaos with a huge smile on my face.

M3GAN 2.0 doesn’t seem to set out to do much more than show off and get laughs, and it accomplishes it well enough. The film is bigger, but not better, delivering precisely what fans of the sassy android will come to the theatres to see.

Switching genres in a futile effort to justify the series’ continued existence, this misbegotten creation is a leaden and aimless bit of cinematic malware—not to mention the most convoluted 2025 theatrical release to date.

Amie Donald's physical performance, coupled with Jenna Davis's chillingly perfect voice work, brings an upgraded M3GAN to life with an even more pronounced personality – she's wittier, more cunning, and undeniably iconic. Her interactions, particularly with the new AI threat, are pure cinematic gold, leading to some of the most memorable moments in the film. M3GAN 2.0 doesn't just entertain; it electrifies. It’s a roller coaster of darkly comedic thrills, unexpected twists, and perfectly choreographed action sequences that will have you on the edge of your seat. This movie is a bold, confident step forward for the franchise, showcasing incredible creativity and a keen understanding of what made audiences fall in love with M3GAN in the first place.

The new M3GAN installment arrives with the intention of reinventing the franchise, shifting its focus toward a rebellious supersoldier that brings a fresh twist to the original premise. The downside is that, in doing so, the film sacrifices much of the horror that made the first one so enjoyable, leaning more into action-thriller territory with splashes of comedy.There’s no denying the movie is entertaining, but it’s also uneven. Some scenes work great, especially when M3GAN takes the spotlight with her signature mix of irony, sass, and violence that made her an instant icon. Yet other moments drag, stretching situations that don’t add much.What stands out is that, even while being louder and more outrageous, it feels more calculated. The surprising freshness of the original fades, replaced by a script that juggles too many ideas without fully developing them. The result is a fun cocktail, but one that’s less memorable than it could have been.Still, M3GAN keeps her charm. The doll remains funny, unsettling, and magnetic whenever she’s on screen. And while this sequel isn’t as sharp as the first, it delivers what it promises: light entertainment built on technological excess and dark humor.

How did we get here? We had a fun and original horror movie, and by the second installment it’s turned into action and comedy. That’s the fastest way to kill a franchise just to make it ‘more accessible to a wider audience.’ A huge disappointment. All the gore happens off-screen, or in shadow play (like the decapitation in the opening scene). All the appeal is gone, even though there was so much potential to make something epic.

This movie was so bad. First, it’s not a horror movie. It’s a wanna be Terminator 2 where the bad android becomes the ****’s a sub par sci-fi action movie where M3GAN is the good guy and not the psychotic killer doll from the first movie. And Candy, the young niece who lost her parents in the first movie somehow has become a genius robotics developer while still in middle school? Come on. What a complete cluster. During my screening people were actually leaving in the middle of the film. I don’t know what’s going on with Blumhouse this year, but aside from Drop, they have really made some bad, unoriginal films.
