While “Primetime” works better as a disturbing character study than conventional narrative, it lets Pattinson immerse himself in the visual insanity.

Practical Magic 2 seems drunk on its own midnight margaritas, running back a lot of the same narrative with a mess of disparate tones and forced characters, plus an all-too-predictable third act.

While Brand New Day might not be the most rambunctious or exciting of Holland’s Spider-flicks, it aims to be a little deeper than the average MCU installment while trapping you in its gratifying web.

It’s a mess of a film that, on paper, shouldn’t be.

Brutal, beautiful and a bit bonkers. It's also a Trojan Horse of filmmaking, with a war movie, history lesson, monster mash, body horror flick, moody zombie fest, maritime disaster extravaganza and father-son tale all scrunched together in a spectacular package.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya”) and based on the fantastic “Woman of Tomorrow” comic book, “Supergirl” has plenty of action sequences, including one great bit when Kara battles teleporting tech pirates on a space bus. On the whole, however, it’s a much more emotional journey than a superhero movie fan might expect.

It does explore tech, kids and friendship in a thoughtful way that feels fresh and relatable for youngsters and parents alike, and also gives Conan O'Brien the insecure toy he was born to play.

It’s classic Spielbergian fare, given that it’s a movie much more about us than intergalactic beings.

Directed by Ol Parker (“Ticket to Paradise”), the film can’t escape all of the usual genre tropes or overt sentimentality, yet that's tempered by a bawdy sense of humor and fits of wild broad comedy.
