Kandahar

While Kandahar is undoubtedly spectacular war cinema, it's also a weighty meditation on the seeming impossibility for some of walking away from conflict.

It’s a pleasure to see Butler do his thing opposite a talented array of international performers — Fazal and Fimmel are standouts — and stretch his specific set of skills into more complex contemporary storytelling, making “Kandahar” worth the trip

Kandahar is standard entertainment that pushes for more than what they can deliver. Slight entertainment is the best it can be.

I’m all for a juicy, action-packed Gerard Butler movie. A Gerard Butler movie that wants to have its geopolitics taken seriously is a different matter. And honestly, it’s an even more different matter when the movie is not particularly juicy or, you know, action-packed.

As usual, Butler brings a convincing humanity and vulnerability to his action movie heroics.

Kandahar gets the straight face right, but seems woefully convinced that it’s a serious drama, right down to the wailing-woman soundtrack that so many Hollywood and Hollywood-adjacent movies about the Middle East bust out to show they’re down with the anguish.

Stupefyingly sluggish.

Definitivamente é um ótimo ano para filmes de ação, de MI a Extraction 2, passando por uma boa continuação de "Fast", "John Wick", "Indiana Jones"... Aqui Gerard Butler mantem a excelente média do gênero e ainda conta com um roteiro bem amarrado, que dá conta de explicar bem o desdobramento da obra e dessa vez sem reviravoltas mirabolantes, tornando tido muito mais crível, ainda que sacrifique, com isso, a dose de adrenalina. Isto porque talvez os espectadores de "Missão de sobrevivência" (título dado no Brasil) se ressintam de uma pegada mais forte de cenas inimagináveis, com cortes rápidos e explosões mais viscerais. Em resumo, é um filme cuja ação é meio que deixada a segundo plano, e com isso acaba destacando o enredo geopolítico. Gerard Butler vive um agente da CIA de fachada no Oriente, passando-se por técnico de internet, que acaba instalando uma espécie de "vírus" ou algum malware que invade núcleos inimigos para destruí-lo. Só aqui já vemos uma mudança na estrutura das bases para formas mais digitais, elemento importante no pós-Afeganistão. No entanto, como marcador de que é um filme que supera a lógica da guerra fria, para tornar-se um típico exemplar de um filme do século XXI, é ver que há uns discursos, inclusive vindo dos próprios membros do talibã, a favor de uma maior abertura cultural de seus povos, e o que é mais surpreendente ainda, a consciência de que o próprio EUA é um mal no marco civilizatório daquelas nações. Assim, o filme navega entre a busca pela sobrevivência e a auto crítica da política armamentista, com disparos sutis contra todos os lados. Quem sofre mesmo são todos, que tem suas famílias devastadas pela incoerência dos homens em insistir na guerra, ao mesmo tempo que tentam apenas sobreviver, trabalhar. É como se fosse um sustentáculo necessário do capitalismo, ao mesmo tempo que todos se encontram em posições desconfortáveis, inclusive referente à religião: ao mesmo tempo que representa certo conforto, representa também uma alienação pesada. Então, por mais que o filme tenha traços de conservadorismo tanto em sua narrativa quanto no roteiro, também tem traços de refinamento ao sugerir certas reflexões. Alguns takes naquela paisagem desértica, junto com a fotografia, também enriquecem o ar mais reflexivo que o filme pode prporcionar. Pode não ser o filme marcante do ano, mas é um filme diferenciado por elementos liberais possíveis de vislumbrar sutilmente no roteiro, bem como por já abrir a janela da corrida armamentista que podemos esperar ao longo dos próximos anos. Portanto, seu principal mérito é ser um filme mais contemporâneo mesmo.

Gute Qualität und glaubwürdiges Szenario. Alles ist aber ziemlich austauschbar. Es gibt viele ähnliche Filme.

This action-thriller from the starter writer Mitchell LaFortune doesn't fall far from other films of this genre that became a trend lately (the relation of black-ops agents or soldiers and the translators that follows them, many times not credited from the danger they expose themselves **** is is a solid movie with far distance and expansive shots of landscape, another mark of the director that used the spanish MacGregor cinematographer (The Fall) for this work, filmed in in Saudi Arabia, being the first big-budget U.S. feature to shoot in the country's Al-Ula and Jeddah.Solid action scenes and the interesting fact of being one of the few movie's that I'd view that shows the complexity of faction in the region, between Taliban, ISISK, Warlord and even the Iranian and Paquistan on the **** had potential to be more, but it is worth the watch: 6.5 out of 10.0 / B-.

This is a very poor film. Not helped that Covenant does this so much better. So cheesy it is untrue. The music is so misjudged. Avoid.

Lifeless would be the perfect way to sum up this film. Makes zero use out of the talented cast and delivers a bland story that you've seen time and time again. Not worth it.
