This is an ambitious, methodical, immersive, and admirably devious experiment in conjuring atmosphere and testing gag reflexes. It will quicken your pulse, tighten your throat and – for those on its extremely particular wavelength – bust your gut.

With In A Violent Nature, Nash crafts something entirely new; composed, near and real. But the film’s sense of tone and timing prove that he also intimately understands why audiences were always invested in these marathons of blood, gore, and guts.

The fact that In a Violent Nature sets up a storytelling style that utilizes highbrow aesthetics while still keeping one foot firmly planted in the genre gutter is what makes this feel like a once-in-generation slasher flick.

There are no quick cuts here, no goofy ways of hiding gore from the audience: Nash wants the viewer to engage with the pure terror of what’s going on just as much as he wants them to sit in the tedium of it.

For horror fans, it’s a rare treat and a fantastic exercise in taking a genre in the opposite direction that everyone else has tried.

Claiming inspiration (in the film’s press notes) from Terrence Malick and others, Nash has attempted an ambitious blend of art house and slaughterhouse whose rug-pulling ending will polarize, even as its moody logic prevails.

This is the trouble with nihilism as a foundation for horror: it can’t quicken the pulse, drum up scares, or elicit any fruitful response from the viewer at all. Being impressed with a whole lot of nothing doesn’t mean we are.

In a Violent Nature brings a few interesting ideas to the genre and does it with some success. The POV of the slasher, can be seen as slow; however, if this style clicks with you - you will really enjoy this film.

better to have tried, than to not have tried at all. I really liked the intro and subsequent scenes following our Slasher as he ventures through the campgrounds getting revenge on those that took his necklace, but by the end I wanted it to wrap up. the photographer is top notch making the greens of the wood really pop in the backdrop of over the top kills and mutilating scenes that went on a bit longer than I would have liked in service of the quiet villain on his rampage. I would recommend for the horror folks, but only as the gimmick it was made to be

This movie should have been called A.S.M.R. (A Sick Murdering ****) Please don't cancel me; I'm joking!.. I think the sound department purposely used ASMR to affect the audiences reaction. It's filmed like an Evil Dead movie except instead of deadites or demons it's Jason Voorhees.

Earns a few points for its student film style (hello, academy ratio) & the heavy lifting that the sound-effects editor brought to the table, but that all emcompassing dread just isn’t there. Turns out eliminating the scary music & jump scares only starkly exposes just how threadbare & tiresome these sorts of movies really are.

Extremely low-budget and too pretentious to enjoy. Bad acting and some completely non-sensical deaths. Maybe film students and other indie filmmakers will appreciate this movie, but it has almost no entertainment value to the general public. Doing the movie from the killer's perspective is an interesting idea, but would have worked with an interesting killer... not one that just walks around and doesn't speak. Some of the practical effects are also quite B-movie bad. Wish I saw the user reviews before sitting through this garbage.
