Green Street Hooligans

Then I realized the movie's point is that someone like this nerdy Harvard boy might be transformed in a fairly short time into a bloodthirsty gang fighter. The message is that violence is hard-wired into men, if only the connection is made.

Director and co-writer Lexi Alexander choreographs the fight scenes with thrilling chaos, and the plot unfolds expertly if melodramatically.

It's a handsome and spry movie, and it might even have managed to be a good one if there were even the least chance of believing that Wood, who can't weigh 145 pounds dripping wet, had the slightest chance of hurting anyone with one of his wee fists.

The world of football riots seems rife with potential for the big screen, but Green Street Hooligans only periodically rises to it.

Green Street Hooligans, an accidental advertisement for Alcoholics Anonymous and the somnolent pleasures of cricket that, in the end, is mostly about the pleasures, both visceral and visual, of violence.

It becomes simply another banal gang film so familiar and predictable you have to wonder why so much potential is wasted on such a confused dramatic mess.

Soccer needs this movie like Georgia needed "Deliverance."

Up your arse Desson you Journo. This is a masterpiece, the best soccer movie yet made. Still, its about so MUCH MORE than Football. It's about cultural differences, about brotherhood, about Publife, about being single and a 20 something, about fanaticism and exiting fanaticism and finding real life. Most importantly, its about the Lower class...about hope..beyond the day to day grind at work. Something to believe in, something to cheer for...even if what you are cheering for is low quality. It's about where you are from and the biggest ruck is always the next one. Cheers boys.

This movie is absolutely amazing. The acting is unreal, the fights are so realistic. The storyline is so realistic going from football firms to matchday brawlings. 10/10 for me. Spot on

Violence and Friendship. A wrongfully expelled Harvard undergrad moves to London, where he is introduced to the violent underworld of football hooliganism.

Such a lazy and superficial look at football hooliganism in the U.K. The bones are there for a good movie, but poor direction and a weak story stop this from being anything memorable. Gary Oldman's "The Firm" from 1989 is the best movie to see in the genre.
