In the hands of a more talented filmmaker, this movie had the potential to become a new martial-arts classic. In Reiné’s, it’s the kind of thing that plays well as an evening’s diversion on Netflix, but doesn’t ever rise above the level of “just another good mid-tier actioner."

The best action sequence comes at the end, which bolsters the film's best use of camera movement and editing to highlight the fight choreography.

The action is good, and if that's all you're interested in, that's fine. It's dumb as it can afford to be and freely accepts it. I suppose that level of transparence is laudable, but yes, this is an action film with overly edited sequences rather than anything truly choreographed, so there's no fluidity to these and they're not particularly exciting. Disappointing if you're looking for more than numb yourself a bit.

Attempts to use elongated action sequences to distract from the film's terrible acting and a horrible script. Both the fight and chase sequences were entirely too long. Most likely to limit how much time the characters were actually required to speak. Didn't bother finishing. Really a shame because I genuinely enjoyed the series.

Fistful of Vengeance is a movie in duration only; it’s pretty slapdash in terms of its execution, even during its glossy-looking action set pieces.

Without tactical, philosophical or emotional grounding, the battle scenes don’t land with any cinematic force.

Leave this one to fans of the series, because as a stand-alone movie, it’s a dud.

It is glorious to see a predominantly Asian cast, including Asian-Americans, and extended scenes set against a gorgeous Thai backdrop. However, there’s little else to enjoy in this middling martial arts flick.

Awful. Awful story. Awful fight scenes. Awful acting. Awful choreography. A "Stand-alone Sequel" to the equally awful Wu Assassins. Netflix produced trash. I understand Iko Uwais wanting some mainstream exposure but he needs to be careful, he is a fantastic martial artist and needs to avoid dumpster fires like this moving forward.
