There are some well-shot fights, even some decent use of weaponry to further ramp up the intensity a bit, but for a movie that wears its action ancestry fully displayed on its sleeve, more was expected.

Cleaner (2025) Great Action Movie (12,438 – 11 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In London, the former military Joanna “Joey” (Daisy Ridley) has a troubled autistic brother, Michael (Matthew Tuck), who is also an excellent hacker. When he hacks the asylum where he is interned and whistleblows to the press, he is expelled and Joey is forced to bring him to her job. She is the cleaner of the windows of the Agnian Energy Tower. During a party promoted in the tower, radical environmentalists led by Marcus (Clive Owen) invade and kidnap the owners and guests to show the world their corruption. However, the nihilist terrorist Noah (Taz Skylar) kills Marcus and a few members loyal to him, and force the rest of the team to follow him. Now the only chance of survival of the hostages is Joey, who is trapped in a scaffolding and wants to save Michael. “Cleaner” (2025) is a great British action movie directed by Martin Campbell. The plot may not be original, but the action scenes are worthwhile watching. There is one particular and important scene, when Joey takes Noah’s activator from the wrist that could have been better written. My vote is seven. Well into his late period, Campbell still knows his way around a crisp cut, but sometimes that’s most noticeable in Cleaner when he’s not directing action at all – which is a surprising amount of the time.

Director Campbell clearly knows his way around this sort of material, resulting in some tense, well-staged action sequences that make Cleaner reasonably diverting for its concise running time. But the film never achieves the heights of the classic actioners that clearly inspired it, and its overuse of familiar genre tropes (for once, can’t the main villain be uncharismatic, like so many in real life?) soon becomes wearisome.

Cleaner is a perfectly serviceable time waster for plane rides and afternoon naps. It might even make a good addition to Daisy Ridley’s acting reel, should anyone think of her for a better action movie. But Campbell’s timid direction of a tired script can’t rise to the occasion.

Daisy Ridley plays a woman who cleans the exterior windows of a ****. A terrorist group (led by Clive Owen) invades the building where she’s working, taking hostages and threatening disaster, so it’s up to her to save the day. Oh yes, she happens to have Army training that gives her the skills to do the job. While defeating the terrorists, she also has to look out for her autistic brother (played Matthew Tuck, who is on the spectrum). This film harkens back to the classic action thrillers in the “Die Hard” mold. As such, the plot plays out with predictable beats, but the action is well-staged and Ridley is up to the encounters. While not breaking any new ground (but a few windows), it’s a formula flick that director Martin Campbell has managed to make enjoyably entertaining.

A gender swapped Die Hard clone that's full of modern troupes. It's not very good and should have been a direct to DVD release. The plot is almost an exact rip off of Die Hard. The fight scenes choreography wise aren't very good and also aren't very realistic (Daisey Ridley overpowers men twice her size and weight). The acting isn't very good either for the most part. You'd be better off spending your time watching something else, even Die Hard 5 was better than this.
