Hokum (2026) Atmospheric and Creepy (12,511 – 15 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The successful American writer Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott) travels to Ireland to the remote hotel where his parents spent honeymoon. Bauman is an unfriendly and unpleasant guest but befriends Fiona (Florence Ordesh), who works in the hotel. He learns that the Honeymoon Suite has been closed by the hotel’s owner since it is haunted by a witch. He also befriends the lonely vagrant Jerry (David Wilmot), who lives in his van in the woods. One night, Bauman drinks too much and Fiona finds him hanging in his room, but she saves his life. When he recovers in the hospital, he learns from the police detective that Fiona has gone missing and Jerry is the prime suspect. But Bauman teams up with Jerry and decide to look for Fiona in the Honeymoon Suite. “Hokum” (2026) is an atmospheric and creepy Irish horror film with Adam Scott having a great performance in the role of an American writer. Like most European films, the pace is slow but perfect to build tension in minor situations. The cinematography is also beautiful and scary. My vote is seven. Honey Bunch (2025) One of the Most Original Recent Films (12,510 – 14 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the 70’s, after a car crash, Diana (Grace Glowicki) stays in coma for a long period. When she wakes up, the doctors realize that she has memory loss and wounded hip. Her husband Homer (Ben Petrie) hires a recommended experimental treatment at an isolated mansion with Dr. Tréphine (Patricia Tulasne). After a couple of days, Diane’s memory improves and her hip heals. But she suspects the furtive attitude of Homer hides some secret. The Canadian-Finnish “Honey Bunch” (2025) is one of the most original recent films released by the industry. The well-built plot is developed slowly, keeping the viewer tense, but could have been shorter. The mystery is resolved in the violent ending. My vote is seven. Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026) Messy Beginning, Full of Cliches and Forgettable (12,508 – 13 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The ex-spy and now working in Wall Street Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) and his friend and CIA Vice-Director James Greer (Wendell Pierce) have an encounter and Greer asks him to collect a package from Nigel Cooke (Douglas Hodge) in Dubai with his former colleague Mike November (Michael Kelly). Ryan meets Cooke, who tells that Greer needs help, but is killed by a sniper. MI-6 agent Emma Marlow (Sienna Miller) takes Ryan and November into custody. The rogue agent Liam Crown (Max Beesley) tells Greer that he will kill Ryan if he does not return what Cooke gave to him. Ryan learns that Greer and Cooke created the black ops Project Starling and Crown worked with him after the 9/11 and later he shut it down. However, Crown wants to resurrect it and now they need to stop him. “Jack Ryan: Ghost War” (2026) is a movie with messy beginning, full of cliches and forgettable following the style of “Mission Impossible”. Geomeun sunyeodeul / Dark Nuns (2025) Exorcist and Shaman (12,507 – 12 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) When Sister Yunia (Song Hye-Kyo) learns that the boy Hee-Joon (Moon Woo-Jin) is possessed by a demon, she wants to perform an exorcism bur the Korean Church opposes the idea. Hee-Joon is interned in a Catholic hospital under the care of Father Paolo (Lee Jin-Uk), who is also a doctor and believes he can cure the boy, and his assistant Sister Mikaela (Jeon Yeo-Bin). When the demon forces Hee-Joon’s mother to commit suicide, Nuns Yunia and Mikaela team-up and bring the boy to a Shaman to perform the exorcism. But the demon is powerful and resists, but Sister Yunia does not give up the boy. “Geomeun sunyeodeul”, a.k.a. “Dark Nuns” (2025), is a South Korean supernatural film with great performances and scary scenes. However, the screenplay is confusing, entwinning Catholic exorcism with the spiritual healer Shaman. But the film entertains fans of the genre. My vote is six. Protector (2025) Sad Ending (12,504 – 10 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The military Nikki Halsted (Milla Jovovich) from the Special Ops is considered a heroine in the Army. However, she lost the growth of her daughter Chloe (Isabel Myers). When Chloe is near her sixteenth birthday, her father dies of leukemia, and Nikki retires from the Army to stay with her daughter in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Chloe wants to celebrate her birthday with her girlfriends in a bar, but Nikki says that it is dangerous. However, Chloe flees to meet her friends. She flirts with the handsome teenager Ben Blaine (Shane Williams), who is indeed part of the Syndicate, a powerful gang of human trafficking. When Nikki finds that Chloe is not at home, she locates her in the bar and drives there. But Ben has already drugged Chloe and Nikki begins a crime spree to save her daughter. “Protector” (2025) is an American action movie with a different ending. The plot is good, with great choreography of fights although the story is not original. The sad conclusion is unusual in action movies, but not bad. My vote is six. The Mummy / Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026) Creepy (12,501 – 09 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Cairo, the American correspondent Charlie Cannon (Jack Reynor) is happily married with the pregnant Larissa (Laia Costa) and they have two children, Sebastián “Seb” (Shylo Molina) and the girl Katie (Emily Mitchell). When Katie is abducted by a woman (Hayat Kamille), Charlie and Larissa report to the police to Detectives Ismail (Husam Chadat) and Dalia Zaki (May Calamawy) but their daughter is not found. Eight years later, the family lives in Albuquerque with Larissa’s mother Carmen Santiago (Veronica Falcón) and their daughter Maud (Billie Roy) when Charlie receives a phone call from Cairo, informing that Katie (Natalie Grace) was found in a plane crash. Charlie and Larissa travel to Cairo and see the condition Katie is in and the doctors say that she may improve her conditions living with her family. They bring Katie to Albuquerque, but soon they learn that something evil has come with her. “The Mummy”, a.k.a. “Lee Cronin's The Mummy” (2026), is a creepy horror movie with an original story. The screenplay, CGI and cinematography are excellent, with perfect development of the story and characters. The destroyer of family demon is scary, and this film is worthwhile watching. Eden (2014) Unbearable (12,500 – 09 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) There are films that are unbearable, and “Eden” (2014) is one of them. The screenplay is a mess, and characters appears and go without any development. The name of the protagonist is only said after about forty minutes running time. Shavua ve Yom / One Week and a Day (2016) Boring Story of Grief (12,498 – 08 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) “Shavua ve Yom”, a.k.a. “One Week and a Day” (2016), is a boring Israeli film overrated by the critics. The plot is based on a traditional Jewish ceremony of one week of mourning called “Shiva” and we see the reaction of a family on the next day after the Shiva. The reckless father smokes marijuana with the best friend of his son and neglects to reserve the graves for his wife and him next to the one of his son. But the viewer never knows how his son died and how was the behavior of the family before the incident. There is no development of the characters and the film is tiresome. My vote is four. Die'ced: Reloaded (2025) Terrible Terrifier Rip-off (12,496 – 07 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the 80’s, in Seattle, the deranged serial-killer Benjamin "Benny" Newman (Jason Brooks) escapes from an asylum helped by Nurse Amber (Christine Rose Allen). It is Halloween and he goes to a nearby town, where he kills a teenager and dresses his scarecrow costume in the beginning of his crime spree“. Die'ced: Reloaded” (2025) is a terrible Terrifier rip-off by Jeremy Rudd. The story and the screenplay are stupid, with an awful twist near the end. The only thing that work in this flick are the gore effects and the creepy appearance of the killer. But the acting is poor and the characters only exist to be slaughtered by Benny. My vote is two. The Running Man (2025) The Media Manipulation (12,495 – 06 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In a dystopian society in the future, the unemployed worker Ben Richards (Glen Powell) cannot find a job since he is blacklisted for union activism. His wife Sheila (Jayme Lawson) is a waitress, and they cannot afford to buy medicine for their daughter Cathy, who has influenza. The powerful Network rules the country and attracts viewers with violent shows in the only available television. Bobby Thompson (Colman Domingo) hosts the show “The Running Man”, where three runners need to survive for 30 days while hunted down by five hunters and ordinary people. Ben meets the producer Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), who convinces him to join the show for the good of his family. Now Ben needs to survive for 30 days in a corrupt environment. “The Running Man” is a disappointing movie for viewers that saw the 1987 original version. Ben and Sheila Richards have no chemistry, have nothing to do with each other since Glen Powell is a handsome actor and the situation for his participation in the show that noone survives is ridiculous. Ready or Not: Here I Come (2026) Great Sequel (12,493 – 05 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) After surviving the deadly game, Grace (Samara Weaving) is sent to hospital to treat her wounds. She is cuffed by Detective Bassett (Grant Nickalls) to the ICU bed, and out of the blue, her estranged sister Faith MacCaullay (Kathryn Newton) visits her. Meanwhile, Ursula (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her brother Titus Danforth (Shawn Hatosy) kill their father, Chester Danforth (David Cronenberg), to dispute with three other families a powerful throne under the control of The Lawyer (Elijah Wood). They kidnap Grace and Faith and cuff them to each other, and they need to survive until the next morning to their hunting. “Ready or Not: Here I Come” (2026) is a great sequel to “Ready or Not” (2019). The action scenes are top-notch; the excessive gore is hilarious; Samara Weaving’s performance is excellent and her chemistry with Kathryn Newton is wonderful. Te doy mis ojos / Take My Eyes (2003) Realistic Drama (12,492 – 05 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Toledo, Pilar (Laia Marull) is an abused woman by her insecure husband Antonio (Luis Tosar). She leaves him after nine years of marriage and goes with her son Juan (Nicolás Fernández Luna) to the house of her sister Ana (Candela Peña), who will marry the Scottish John (Dave Mooney). Antonio joins to a group of sexists with a therapist (Sergi Calleja) in an anger management therapy, and convinces Pilar, who is working in a museum, that he will not beat her again. Pilar discusses with Ana returns home with Juan. But soon she realizes that he made empty promises. “Te doy mis ojos”, a.k.a. “Take My Eyes” (2003), is a realistic Spanish drama about the recurrent case of women abused by her husbands or mates. Pilar is not murdered by Antonio and has emotional and financial support of family and friends. But in the world, many women do not have her chance. The performance of Laia Marull is top-notch. Etz Limon / Lemon Tree (2008) Only American Movies Have Happy Endings (12,490 – 04 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) When the new Israeli Defense Minister Israel Navon (Doron Tavory) moves with his wife Mira Navon (Rona Lipaz-Michael) to the border of Israel next to the lemon tree orchard of the Palestinian widow Salma Zidane (Hiam Abbass), the Israeli Secret Service orders Salma to tear down the orchard. Salma has had these lemon trees for 15 years, when her father planted them, and is financially supported by the lemons. She hires the lawyer Ziad Daud (Ali Suliman) to go to court, but as he says, only American movies have happy endings. “Etz Limon”, a.k.a. “Lemon Tree” (2008), is an Israeli film that shows a sample of the abusive treatment of Israeli authorities to the Palestinian people. La pazza gioia / Like Crazy (2016) Original Dramatic Comedy (12,487 – 03 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) When the quiet Donatella Morelli (Micaela Ramazzotti) is interned in the mental institution Villa Blondi in Tuscany, the talkative and snobbish inmate Beatrice Morandini Valdirana (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi) befriends her. The judge and the director of the institution authorizes them to work with the other inmates on a nearby farm. However, Beatrice and Donatella flee when the bus is late and carjack with the intention of visiting Donatella’s son and having good time. “La pazza gioia”, a.k.a. “Like Crazy” (2016) is an original Italian French dramatic comedy by Paolo Virzì. Irina Palm (2007) The **** Widow (12,484 – 02 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho )In England, the middle-aged Maggie (Marianne Faithfull) is desperate for money since her grandson Olly (Corey Burke) is very ill and needs to go to Melbourne to be submitted to an experimental treatment. She has already sold her house and travels to London looking for a bank loan or a job. However, she does not have any collateral or profession. She ends at the Sex World club, and the owner Miki (Miki Manojlovic) offers the well-paid job of client’s ****. Although morally affected, she accepts the job to raise money and save her grandson. “Irina Palm” (2007) is a different European drama, with Marianne Faithfull having top-notch performance in the role of a woman needing money that accepts the job to **** clients through a hole in the wall. The Tomorrow War (2021) Highly Indicated for Fans of Sci-Fi and Action Movies (12,478 – 26 Oct 2024 / 30 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The former Iraq military leader and presently science teacher Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) lives in the suburbs with his beloved wife Emmy Forester (Betty Gilpin) and their young daughter Muri (Yan Kiera Armstrong). Dan aims to work in a research laboratory and hates his estranged father James Forester (J. K. Simmons), who left his family when he was a boy. During the 2022 World Cup, the final soccer game is interrupted by soldiers from the future that explain that they need people from the past to help them, since aliens are destroying the earthlings, and they cannot stand anymore the alien forces. Dan is forced to enlist and to wear a bracelet to track him. He unsuccessfully tries to defect and jumps with other people thirty years in the future to Miami Beach, Florida. However, only a few survive since there was an error in the location. Dan becomes the commander of the survivors due to his military experienced and they are ordered to rescue a research team in a nearby location before the airplanes drop bombs in the city. They find that the researchers are dead, and Dan retrieves twelve samples of specific research. Only a few of them survives the alien attack in Miami and the survivors are brought to a military camp at the Dominican Republican. Soon Dan learns that the commander of the military resistance is his daughter, Colonel Muri Forester (Yvonne Strahovski), who is researching a means to destroy the powerful alien female that breeds uninterruptedly and resists to the toxins used to exterminate the males. Dan helps her with the research and now they are the last hope on Earth to destroy the alien invaders. "The Tomorrow War" (2021) is an enjoyable film highly indicated for fans of sci-fi and action movies. Like many others time travel movies, the plot has flaws and paradoxes, but if the viewer turns off his brain, he will see an entertaining film. The fight with ineffective weapons shows the end of the human race, but interfering in the past to produce powerful weapons would lead mankind to a different resistance fate. But sending people to the future to die does not make any sense. The butterfly effect is not considered in this film, but there will be no alien invasion; therefore, no casualty in the future. And those who died in the past? On the other hand, Dan knows when and how he will die in a car crash. Therefore, he knows how to avoid his death. But anyway, the film is not made to think, but to entertain and in this regard, it is very satisfactory with many action scenes and top-notch CGI. My vote is eight. Alpha (2025) Ghost from the Past (12,477 – 29 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In France, the 13-year-old Alpha (Mélissa Boros) drinks too much in a party and someone tattoos the letter A on her shoulder. Her mother (Golshifteh Farahani), who is a medical doctor, becomes scared and takes Alpha to the hospital for blood exams. At the same time, her brother Amin (Tahar Rahim), who is an infected drug addict visits them and stays in Alpha’s room. “Alpha” 2025 is a complex drama by Julia Ducournau and the viewer that is not her follower will need to read to understand the layers of this film. The plot point is when the viewer sees that Uncle Amin is dead. There are several metaphors like the infection with AIDS and the rejection by people; the return of Amin means the recollection from the past with the possibility of Alpha’s infection; the letter “A” refer to the Scarlet Letter; the red wind turning Amin into sand is when Alpha and her mother finally let him go and also to the devil mentioned by grandmother. Angel (2007) Melodramatic and Emotionless (12,476 – 29 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the beginning of the Twentieth Century, Angel Deverell (Romola Garai) is an arrogant teenager that does not read books but dreams of becoming a famous writer. Her mother (Jacqueline Tong) owns a grocery, and they belong to the low class in England. When she writes a novel and sends it to publisher Théo (Sam Neill), she becomes successful and wealthy. She hires her fan Nora (Lucy Russell) to be her assistant and when she meets her brother Esmé (Michael Fassbender), she falls for him, and this relationship destroys her. “Angel” (2007) is a melodramatic and emotionless film by François Ozon, with magnificent cinematography and costumes, and great names in the cast. However, the screenplay does not have plot point and the protagonist is a narcissist and arrogant woman, and the viewer does not feel attracted to her. My vote is six. Pozitia copilului / Child's Pose (2013) Obnoxious Character (12,474 – 28 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Bucharest, the manipulative and controlling middle-aged architect Cornelia Keneres (Luminita Gheorghiu) is an upper-class and well related woman, married with Domnul Aurelian **** (Florin Zamfirescu). When her son Barbu (Bogdan Dumitrache) hits and kills a boy from a humble family while speeding on the road, she uses her influence with authorities, bribes, tampers with the evidence, and changes statements to save her son from prison. “Pozitia copilului”, a.k.a. “Child's Pose”, is an unpleasant Romanian film with an obnoxious character. Cornelia is arrogant, corrupt, manipulative, controller, and neither her husband nor her son can’t stand her. She never shows empathy for the child murdered by her son. Honeydripper (2007) Great Movie by John Sayles (12,472 – 27 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In 1950, in Harmony, Alabama, the piano player Tyrone “Ty” Purvis (Danny Glover) owns the Honeydripper Bar that he runs with his friend Maceo (Charles S. Dutton). His wife is Delilah (LisaGay Hamilton) and his stepdaughter is China Doll (Yaya DaCosta). His bar is near bankruptcy with his debts and the blues singer Bertha Mae (Mable John), wo lives with Slick (Vondie Curtis-Hall), does not attract audiences anymore that prefer the competitor Touissant’s jukebox. Ty feeds the youth wanderer Sonny (Gary Clark Jr.) and the corrupt Sheriff Pugh (Stacy Keach) arrests him to work in the cotton plantation of the also corrupt Judge Gatlin (Danny Vinson). Ty sees the chance to raise some money bringing New Orleans guitar player “Guitar Sam”. But he is at the hospital on the scheduled date and Ty plans a scheme. “Honeydripper” (2007) is a great movie by John Sayles that shows a dark age foe black people in the racist USA. The film is delightful for fans of rock and blues, the plot is very well developed, the cinematography is beautiful and the cast is wonderful. The only flaw is the lack of conclusion of the story. Syngué sabour, pierre de patience / The Patience Stone (2012) Confessions of a Muslin Woman (12,471 – 26 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) a Muslin country in civil war, a wife (Golshifteh Farahani) has been treating her husband, who was shot in the neck in a bar fight, for several weeks. He is in vegetable state and she is alone, with her two little girls, and without money. When she finds her aunt, she leaves her daughters with her to treat him, and she has the chance to talk to him and confesses her secrets. “Syngué sabour, pierre de patience”, a.k.a “The Patience Stone” (2012), is a sad drama that exposes the life of a woman in a Muslin society. The situation of the protagonist is heartbreaking, and the performance of the gorgeous Golshifteh Farahani is amazing. My vote is seven. The Whistler (2026) Underrated Horror (12,469 – 25 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) When Vicente Castillo (Jorge Vanegas) dies, his son Sebastian (Juan Pablo) returns to his sugarcane farm in Venezuela with his wife Nicole “Nicky” (Diane Guerrero) for the funeral. Nicky is still grieving the loss of her daughter Dani, and her mother-in-law Isabel Castillo (Laura Garcia Marulanda) tries to convince her son to stay with Nicky in the farm. Sebastian learns that there are squatters in the real estate and believes they are responsible for thefts of kettle. But the maid Petra believes in the ancient folklore of the evil wanderer spirit “The Whistler”, “The Whistler” (2026) in an underrated horror movie, based on an ancient Venezuelan and Colombian folklore. Gloria (2013) The Life of a Middle-Aged Divorced Woman (12,468 – 25 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Santiago, Gloria (Paulina García) is a middle-aged divorced woman that works in an office and has a son and a daughter of twenty and something years old. She like to dance and every now and then she goes to a club. When she meets the newly divorced Rodolfo (Sergio Hernández), they dance and have one night stand. But soon, they begin a romance and she brings him to the birthday party of her son. However, Rodolfo leaves the apartment without saying goodbye. Further, he financially support his two adult daughters and ex-wife that abuse him. When he tries to react with Gloria, they travel to Vina del Mar to spend a couple of days together. Will Rodolfo dedicate his time to Gloria? “Gloria” (2013) is an overrated romance with the life of a middle-aged divorced woman. Crime 101 (2026) The Thief, The Detective and The Insurance Broker (12,464 – 23 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Los Angeles, James “Mike” Davis (Chris Hemsworth) is a very calm jewel thief that plans his thefts using a hacker and is never violent with his victims. He uses highway 101 to flee and his middleman is the notorious Money (Nick Nolte). LAPD Det. Lou Lubesnick (Mark Ruffalo) tracks Mike and has a theory that other detectives do not agree. The efficient insurance broker Sharon Combs (Halle Berry) is screwed over by her boss and is never promoted. When Mike is wounded in the head during a heist, he discusses with Money, who hires the psychotic and violent biker Ormon (Barry Keoghan) for the next heist planned by Mike. Mike also knows Maya (Monica Barbaro), who becomes his love interest. Soon the lives of Mike, Lou and Sharon entwin in the last heist. “Crime 101” (2026) is a great crime thriller by Bart Layton with a magnificent cast including veterans. The plot is very well built, and the viewer does not feel the 2h 20min running time. Shimmer Lake (2017) The Mastermind (12,460 – 22 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) On Friday, Sheriff Zeke Sikes (Benjamin Walker) and his deputy investigate the robbery of a bank owned by Judge Brad Dawkins (John Michael Higgins) on Tuesday. Out of the blue, the inefficient FBI agents Kurt Biltmore (Rob Corddry) and Kyle Walker (Ron Livingston) arrive to help the investigation. The missing robbers are Ed Burton (Wyatt Russell), who was a drug dealer that accidentally killed his son that his wife Steph (Stephanie Sigman) still grieves his loss; the former prosecutor Andy Sikes (Rainn Wilson), who is Zeke’s brother; and the lowlife Chris Morrow (Mark Rendall). Along the investigation, Zeke and the officers find bodies and the viewers learn what happened in the previous days. “Shimmer Lake” (2017) is a different neo noir film and dark comedy with the story told backwards like in “Memento” (2000). However, in the later, the protagonist is amnesic and recalls what happened to him from his most recent memories. In “Shimmer Lake”, it is a way to hide the truth and the mastermind of the heist. Caos calmo / Quiet Chaos (2008) The Grief (12,458 – 20 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) While playing paddle ball in a beach in Roccamare, the brothers Pietro (Nanni Moretti), who is a TV executive, and Carlo Paladini (Alessandro Gassman), who owns a jeans brand, hear two women asking for help in the sea. They jump in the water and save them, but they do not thank them. When they return home, Pietro’s wife Lara is dead since she tripped on the floor, and his 12-year-daughter Claudia (Blu Yoshimi) asks where they were since she called her father. Pietro’s TV is merging with an American network, but he leaves his job and stays in front of Claudia’s school. Along this period, Pietro meets his sister-in-law Marta (Valeria Golino), mothers of other students, and executives from the TV. “Caos calmo”m a.k.a. “Quiet Chaos” (2008), is a film about grieving where very few things happen. Pietro wants to protect his daughter and leaves his job to stay in front of the school while she has classes. He uses beautiful women for prostitution and harvest organs from the others for trafficking. His adoptive daughter Kaylee (Santana Dempsey) is pregnant from El Monstruo (Ricardo Adam Zarate), who follows the lineage of fighters and vigilantes but works as enforcer and henchman for Teddy. Kaylee biological parents are the former addicted Crystal (Nicki Micheaux) and Dan (King Orba), who own a low-budget hotel. When Dan needs a new kidney, Crystal deals with Teddy, who makes arrangements to provide one. But soon she learns that he is selling Kaylee’s kidney and she tries to call off, but it is too late. “Lowlife” (2017) is a violent movie divided in four segments: "Monsters", "Fiends" "Thugs" and "Criminals". The Rhythm Section (2020) Another Story of Revenge (12,455 – 18 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In London, when the brilliant Oxford student Stephanie Patrick (Blake Lively) loses her family in a plan crash in the Atlantic, her life turns upside down. Three years later, she became a drugged prostitute. One day, the journalist Keith Proctor (Raza Jaffrey) poses as a client and tells her that the plane accident was a terrorist attempt. She visits him at home and learns that Reza Mohammed (Tawfeek Barhom) is the responsible as informed by his contact B (Jude Law) from Scotland. Stephanie steals material from Proctor and heads to kill Reza, but she fails and her backpack is stolen. She finds Proctor murdered at home and heads to the house of B to know Reza’s whereabouts and seek revenge. “The Rhythm Section” (2020) is a weak action movie with Blake Lively as a revengeful protagonist and Jude Law as her trainer. In 1990, “Nikita” shows a drug addicted being trained for a long period by an agency. Stephanie has a short and stupid training and is capable to become an assassin, killing experienced agents and is incoherent and harder to believe. My vote is five. Sirât (2025) Overrated (12,452 – 17 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the Moroccan desert, Luis (Sergi López) and his son Esteban arrive in a rave party distributing photos of her missing daughter Mar, who vanished five months ago. When the army arrives and shuts down the party, Luis sees a small group fleeing to look for another party. He follows the trucks and joins the ravers, in principle with certain animosity but then they befriend each other. But a tragedy happens and their journey becomes tense and dangerous. “Sirat” is not a bad film but totally overrated. The good points are the mesmerizing landscapes of the Morocco desert and the electronic soundtrack, Sergi López is the only professional actor in the cast, and the story is original and weird. However, there is no character development. The curiosity is the title, based on the Islamic concept of a razor-thin bridge connecting paradise and hell, like their journey. My vote is six. Borderline (2025) Deserved a Better Lead Actor (12,450 – 16 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The unstable and delusional Paul Duerson (Ray Nicholson) stalks the pop singer Sofia (Samara Weaving) and one night, he stabs her bodyguard Bell (Eric Dane) to break into her house. Paul is sent to an institution while Bell recovers in the hospital. Six months later, Paul flees with his sadistic friend Penny (Alba Baptista), and heads to Sofia’s house, who is with her friend Rhodes (Jimmie Fails), to marry her. Meanwhile, his partner J. H. Calhoun (Patrick Cox) kidnaps Bell and his family to be the guests and brings pastor Lutzner (Terence Kelly) to marry them. “Borderline” (2025) is an American dark comedy-thriller that deserved a better lead actor. Ray Nicholson unsuccessfully keeps trying to imitate the crazy faces of his father. Samara Weaving is funny and Alba Baptista is excellent. The rest of the cast have good performances. A Knight's War (2025) A Good Movie, Despite the Confusing Beginning (12,449 – 16 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the Middle Ages, the bastard knight Bhodie (Jeremy Ninaber) and his half-brother William (Matthew Ninaber) are looking for The Chosen Avalon (Kristen Kaster) to fulfil a prophecy and save mankind. When Avalon is murdered, William stabs and kills Bhodie to rescue Avalon from the world of the dead. Brodie makes a deal with The Gate Keeper and teams up with Avalon to defeat three Lords and retrieve three stones that allow them to return to the world of the living. But their journey will not be easy. “A Knight's War” (2025) is a Canadian American fantasy with a confusing beginning. However, with the development of the story, the viewer understands the plot. The dark cinematography, the atmosphere, the costumes and the CGI are excellent. The way full of hatred that Avalon and Bodhie talk to each other is a weak point. Along his journey, he is stolen, meets old friends and his niece Solange and recalls his deceased sweetheart (Isabelle Adjani). “Mammuth” (2010) is a boring and unpleasant French film by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern. The protagonist Mammuth is obnoxious, and the appearance of Gérard Depardieu is grotesque, looking like Shrek wearing a long hair. However, their abusive father find them and Asia shoots him to escape, leaving Maria behind. Ten years later, in Manhattan, Asia is hired as maid by Lily Woodhouse (Patricia Arquette) to work in the building Virgil. During the night, she learns who the residents are and why several people has disappeared from the building. “They Will Kill You” (2026) is a funny and gore movie with a original story. The screenplay has magnificent action scenes, fight choreography and CGI. Zazie Beetz has great performance. Apex (2026) Tense Thriller (12,441 – 12 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Norway, while climbing a mountain with her boyfriend Tommy (Eric Bana), Sasha (Charlize Theron) survives to an avalanche after letting the fainted Tommy go since she could not hold him anymore. Five months later, she heads to Wandarra National Park in Australia, and the ranger says that there are several people missing. While buying supplies, hunters harasses her, but a man named Ben (Taron Egerton) helps her and she asks for direction to him. She practices canoeing and camps near the river, but in the morning her backpack is missing. She stumbles upon Ben and learns who he is. “Apex” (2026) is a tense thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur and with Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton in the lead roles with great performances. The cinematography is stunning, both in the mountains in Norway and in the wilderness of Australia, the action scenes are amazing and the duel between Sasha and Ben is gripping. My vote is seven. She loves belly dancing and has a simple job. Mona (Golshifteh Farahani) works with her husband Mourad (Roschdy Zem) in their grocery store, and her mother-im-law is abusive since they do not have a child. When Marilyn is fired without a reason, she goes home and sees Harvey cheating on her in their bed. She decides to leave him and drive to Santa Fe to participate in a audition of belly dancing. Meanwhile, Mona accidentally gives a wrong dose of medicine to her mother-in-law and she dies of OD. She leaves home, stumbles upon Marilyn and they travel together to Santa Fe. “Just Like a Woman” (2012) is a road movie and a tale of friendship of Iwo women. Cleaner (2025) Great Action Movie (12,438 – 11 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In London, the former military Joanna “Joey” (Daisy Ridley) has a troubled autistic brother, Michael (Matthew Tuck), who is also an excellent hacker. When he hacks the asylum where he is interned and whistleblows to the press, he is expelled and Joey is forced to bring him to her job. She is the cleaner of the windows of the Agnian Energy Tower. During a party promoted in the tower, radical environmentalists led by Marcus (Clive Owen) invade and kidnap the owners and guests to show the world their corruption. However, the nihilist terrorist Noah (Taz Skylar) kills Marcus and a few members loyal to him, and force the rest of the team to follow him. Now the only chance of survival of the hostages is Joey, who is trapped in a scaffolding and wants to save Michael. “Cleaner” (2025) is a great British action movie directed by Martin Campbell. The plot may not be original, but the action scenes are worthwhile watching. There is one particular and important scene, when Joey takes Noah’s activator from the wrist that could have been better written. My vote is seven. No More Time (2022) Senseless Waste of Time (12,433 – 08 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) “No More Time” (2022) is an American post-apocalyptic movie that begins like many others, with a couple from Texas fleeing to Colorado expecting to escape from a virus that makes many people disappear. They break into a large empty house near the woods, and the man, Steve (Mark Reeb), meets the black wanderer Noah (Tunde Adebimpe) outside the house. When his wife Hilaire “Hil” (Jennifer Harlow) learns that he made contact with a local, she becomes upset. Soon the story turns into a senseless bad trip. Do the couple expect that the pandemic had not reached Colorado? Who are the man and the women in the forest? In the credits, they are named siren and demon. Who wrote this story might have been in a bad trip. This is the only explanation for this senseless waste of time. My vote is one. El club / The Club (2015) Unpleasant Film (12,432 – 08 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) Four former priests and a former nun live in a house maintained by the Catholic Church in La Boca. When a fifth priest arrives at the house, a deranged man offends him outside the house and he commits suicide. The |Church sends an emissary to handle the situation. The first point that calls the attention of the viewer of “El club”, a.k.a. “The Club” (2015), is the house kept by the Catholic Church for excommunicated priests. I am not Catholic, but I know that the Church does not maintain houses for people that were not priests anymore. Therefore, the film fails from the premise. It seems that the author has some kind of resentment against the Catholic Church. The plot is unpleasant, but the acting is top-notch. My vote is six. Desert Flower (2009) The Amazing Story of a Somalian Top-Model (12,426 – 05 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) “Desert Flower” (2009) is a film that tells the amazing story of the Somalian top-model Waris Dirie (Liya Kebede). Based on her autobiography, it shows Wary’s life since she was three in Somalia; how she was sold by her father to be the fourth wife of a man; how she fled to the Somalian Embassy in London. how she was helped by the saleswoman Marilyn (Sally Hawkins), hotel manager Pushpa Patel (Meera Syal) and janitor Neil (Craig Parkinson); how the famous photographer Terry Donaldson (Timothy Spall) found her working as cleaning lady of a fast-food and released her to the fashion world; and how BBC promoted her circumcision in Somalia. And her important speech in UN. The performances are top-notch and the screenplay is excellent, alternating the present with flashbacks of her childhood. My vote is eight. Project Hail Mary (2026) May Disappoint Because of the Hype (12,423 – 04 May 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the near future, science teacher and former molecular biologist Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) is summoned by the German Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) to join an international task force in the Project Hail Mary that is studying the microorganism astrophage. They found the "Petrova Line", forming from the Sun to Venus, that is destroying the sun and in 30 years there will be a global cooling that will kill mankind. When the scientists die in an explosion, Grace is recruited to travel to Tau Ceti with two other crew members to study the phenomenon in a suicide mission. When the ship Hail Marry arrives at the destination, Grace realizes that he is alone since the other two members died. But soon he contacts another life form that was sent with the same purpose and a friendship begins. When the viewer sees the hype with a movie like “Project Hail Mary” (2026), many times there is a disappointment. That is the case with this film, for at least these reasons. Plot confusing; too long (2h 36 min. running time); moments where nothing happens. The good points are the beautiful cinematography and Ryan Gosling, since he is one of the most charismatic actors presently. Rocky also steals the show. My vote is six. Whistle (2025) The Cursed Whistle (12,415 – 27 Apr 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The outcast Chrys Willet (Dafne Keen) moves from Chicago to a small town after the death of her father. She joins the Pellington High School, where her cousin Rel Taylor (Sky Yang) studies. Chrys “inherits” the locker of Mason “Horse” Raymore (Stephen Kalyn), who mysteriously died completely burnt while in the shower after a game. She befriends the lesbian Ellie Gains (Sophie Nélisse), who works in a hospital; Grace Browning (Ali Skovbye), who is Rel’s crush and the girlfriend of the basketball player Dean Jackson (Jhaleil Swaby). She finds a weird artifact inside the locker and her teacher Mr. Craven (Nick Frost) takes the relic from her and researches the expensive price on the Internet. While leaving the school, Rel notes that forgot his comics in the classroom and steals the whistle from Mr. Craven. Further Rel warns Chrys that the “pastor” Noah Haggerty (Percy Hynes White) she met in the parking slot is a drug dealer. They go to Grace’s house and she blows the whistle. Soon they learn that Mr. Craven died, and Chrys and Ellie decide to give the artifact back to Horse’s mother, Ms. Ivy Raymore (Michelle Fairley). She does not accept and tells them that the whistle calls death for the listeners, and their death is anticipated. Now they research how the group may be saved from the curse. “Whistle” (2025) is a teen horror movie with a non-original story in the line of “Final Destination” and “Smile”. There is an unnecessary lesbian romance, but the deaths are original and the performances are good. There is a must-see scene in the middle of the credits. My vote is six. Le silence de Lorna / Lorna's Silence (2008) The Immigration Problem (12,414 – 27 Apr 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Belgium, the Albanian Lorna (Arta Dobroshi) works in a laundry and dreams on opening a snack bar with her boyfriend Sokol (Alban Ukaj). They save all possible money to make their dream come true. Lorna married the drug-addicted Claudy Moreau (Jérémie Renier) to get Belgium documents in an arranged marriage by the gangster Fabio (Fabrizio Rongione). Fabio drives a cab and together with his partner Spirou (Morgan Marinne), wants Lorna to marry a Russian and promises 10,000 Euro for her. He wants to kill Claudy with an OD in order that she may marry the Russian and grant citizenship to him. However, Claudy interns in a hospital to get rid of the addiction. When Claudy is murdered, Lorna rethinks her values. “Le silence de Lorna”, a.k.a. “Lorna's Silence” (2008), is a great European film with a story about the serious problem of immigration. Lorna used a common scam to become a Belgium citizen, marrying a Belgium drug-addicted for money. However, her moral values and sympathy prevail in the open ending. My vote is seven. Keeper (2025) Deserved a Better Screenplay (12,413 – 26 Apr 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) After one year of dating each other, the painter Liz (Tatiana Maslany) travels with her boyfriend, Dr. Malcolm Westbridge (Rossif Sutherland, to his isolated cabin in the woods to spend the weekend together. On arrival, there is a box with a cake from his maid on the table and his obnoxious cousin Darren (Birkett Turton) visits Malcolm with his girlfriend Minka (Eden Weiss). On the next morning, Malcolm needs to visit a patient and leaves Liz alone. Soon she is haunted by weird noises in the house and when Malcolm returns, she learns what is happening. “Keeper” (2025) is a horror movie by Osgood Perkins with a different story. The cinematography, atmosphere and performance of Tatiana Maslany are the good points. The pace is slow, but adequate for the story. When he is murdered by a criminal, he wakes up in 2067 and learns that he has been cloned to participate in a fight show promoted by the pharmaceutical Cronocom and Fischer (Martin Kove). He also learns that Cronocomn has technology to travel in time and people in the future are drugged to reduce crime rates. “Fight Another Day” (2024) is a lame low-budget movie by James Mark. The flawed pretentious storyline is ridiculous, considering the budget and the paradoxes in the screenplay. It is silly show less than ten drugged people representing a society and the lack of explanation of several points are shameful. My vote is four. Un conte de Noël / A Christmas Tale (2008) Too Long and Overrated (12,406 – 22 Apr 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Roubaix, Junon Vuillard (Catherine Deneuve) learns that he needs a marrow transplant, and her husband Abel (Jean-Paul Roussillon) joins his dysfunctional family for Christmas to know whether any member is compatible with Junon. Their daughter Elizabeth (Anne Consigny) arrives with her husband Claude Dédalus (Hippolyte Girardot) and their son Paul (Emile Berling), who has mental problems. Ivan (Melvil Poupaud) arrives with his wife Sylvia (Chiara Mastroianni) and their two sons. Henri (Mathieu Amalric), who was banished from the family by Elizabeth six years ago when she paid his debts, is invited by Paul and arrives with his girlfriend Faunia (Emmanuelle Devos). And their cousin Simon (Laurent Capelluto), who is single. The family learns that Henri and Paul are compatible with Junon in the middle of arguments, fights, offenses and secrets. “Un conte de Noël”, a.k.a. “A Christmas Tale” (2008), is a French drama with dark humor along the Christmas. Her divorced mother Nadine (Hiam Abbass) tells May that she will not go to the wedding since Ziad is Muslim and she is evangelical. May meets her sister Dalia (Alia Shawkat) and Yasmine (Nadine Malouf); visits her father Edward (Bill Pullman) and his wife Anu (Ritu Singh Pande); and befriends the touristic guide Karim (Elie Mitri). Along the days, family secrets are disclosed and May has cold feet. “May in the Summer” (2013) is a simple film about a woman that returns to her hometown to plan her wedding and makes discovers about her family, leading her to call off the marriage.
