It would have been better to nix the drama completely and keep Madea's Halloween outing strictly about the laughs.

Tyler Perry never wants to scare you, and I assure you, he never will. Perry DOES want to make you laugh though, succeeding when jokes are bite-size and contained – but most scenes ramble on and on as Madea searches for multiple ways to land the same punchline.

In its final moments, Boo! A Madea Halloween delivers a moral with after-school-special levels of subtlety. A jolting switch from oft-mean-spirited humor to a message movie, this comedy is unlikely to win over any new fans, but the devoted will find comfort in the familiarity.

At 103 minutes, this film has way too much dead weight. Scenes are repeated over and over, and some of the acting would not cut it in a school play. But in the rare moments when Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween is firing on all cylinders, it displays a cleverness which hints that, with more time and a few more iterations of the script, this might have been a good movie.

Madea remains a distinctive, weirdly compelling character. Maybe someday Perry will make a good comedy for her.

This is another bad Perry film, but a curiously verbose one with jokes piled atop more jokes.

The film is chockablock with terrible actors (including Tyga, in a bizarro cameo rapping at a frat party), and the jokes he gives his inferior cast to work with are stinkers.

Look, is it good? No. But I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy myself for most of the runtime. It's lazy and stupid and horribly paced, but my friend and I saw this right after JACK REACHER and sitting in a crowded theater with a game crowd made for the most fun we had that night. If that's all you want, then I say go to a crowded theater or watch it next Halloween on DVD with some drinks and some friends. If you want intelligent entertainment... I mean obviously look elsewhere, this is a Madea movie after all...

It wasn't the worst ever, but not close to good. The first half was terrible, I wanted to turn it off at points. The second half was pretty good, but the last 10 minutes were great. The story needed a lot of improvement. They had plot holes, bad jokes, and it was a little confusing. It isn't worth a watch.

Oh my god. This film is just another madea "comedy" full of crap film. Did I laugh? No. Did I enjoy this? NO! I almost hated halloween after watching this.

I am a huge Madea fan and have enjoyed her movies (and even her stage shows) throughout the years. However, this feature was a huge disappointment. While the premise probably sounded good on paper (Madea kicks ass at a Halloween fraternity party!!!), the cinematic realization wasn't so good. With some weariness, I have grown accustomed to the religiosity in Tyler Perry films, but to dampen the fun and frivolity of Halloween with religious speeches and talk of "the Devil's night"....really? Is this a comedy or a Kirk Cameron sermon-piece? Also the movie is just minimally funny. I think you have to be a die-hard Madea fan to think it is more than that. The gags are set up miles in advance and are repeated over and over. There is truly no original joke in the entire film. Old people's bodily functions are not my idea **** time on Halloween. And shall we discuss the acting? Look, no one goes to a Madea movie to see Oscar-worthy performances, but the actors should be above the standard of a community theater novice improvisation group. No offense to community theater novice improvisation groups. It is just plain terrible. I strongly suggest you wait and watch it online or on On Demand. To paraphrase a line in the movie, don't you be the one to get tricked.
