Cameron’s epic can still thrill the audience with breathtaking set pieces, bring them to tears with moving moments, and amaze people willing to explore a fantasy land like no other. Every frame is developed with such care that the movie remains one of the most beautiful works of art ever created by Hollywood. [2022 re-release]

A quantum leap in movie magic; watching it, I began to understand how people in 1933 must have felt when they saw "King Kong."

Greetings from Lithuania. In 2011, as writing this short review for the first time, 2 years have past since "Avatar" blew out the cinemas in this "dying" world. 2 years have past since we visited Pandora for our first time. In these two years, nothing, nothing in this world came even in a mile to "Avatar's" experience (and i'm a real fan of "Inception"). James Cameron is my favorite director since his "Aliens". I simply love every single movie (except the one with flying fishes - killers) he made. I'm waited for "Avatar" from the moment i first heard about J.Cameron making his new "groundbreaking" movie since "Titanic", it was in 2004. In December of 2009 "Avatar" blew out everything. Never in my life i didn't saw anything like that before (and i saw almost everything) :) In local 3D theater in was impossible to have a ticket. Everyone talked only about this experience in theaters.Recently i revisited Pandora on Blu Ray on my 2,2 m x 2 m HD screen - it's a breathtaking ride.Rewatching this movie on 4K UHD became a yearly tradition. It's still looks and sounds immaculate and on 4K this film is a blast from start till finish. As of 2026, this is one of me favorite movies of all time.

Littéralement mon film préféré de tous les temps. L'univers est magnifique, les musiques géniales et la narration super bien amenée, un chef d'oeuvre

Is it or is it not stupendously friggin' rad? And the answer is yes. For most of the first hour, a good portion of the second, and even many of the 40 minutes left after that, Avatar is stupendously friggin' rad.

An entertainment to be not just seen but absorbed on a molecular level; it's as close to a full-body experience as we'll get until they invent the holo-suits. Cameron aims for sheer wonderment, and he delivers.

Avatar is a king's ransom fairly well spent, not least because Cameron's invitation into his superbly crafted universe comes with an unexpected price: He makes it easy to gaze fondly on all this movie magic, but only in exchange for a hard look at ourselves.

Avatar is a technological wonder, 15 years percolating in King Cameron's imagination and inarguably the greatest 3-D cavalry western ever made. Too bad that western is "Dances With Wolves."

The sheer laborious silliness of Avatar feels like harder work the second time around and its essential problem is more prominent. [2022 re-release]

Visually appealing, easily one of the best looking films ever made. One-note characters, a cookie cutter white savior plot, and a few moments that felt so forced I literally said "Oh they did that because the plot needed it" This review is after a recent rewatched for the new movie. Probably the weakest Avatar movie, pending the final films release.

An amazing spectacle. James Cameron can create world & visuals at a level that is truly top-notch. And not just the special effects (basically, a significant portion of the movie is "animated" with no real people or scenery on the screen) but all the practical sets -- everything is lit with a richness of detail & crispness that is impressive, especially for 2009. Lots of motion and you can tell it is optimized for 3D. The issue is the script can be pretty dumb ("unobtanium"?) & unoriginal, and characters do things because the movie needs for them to happen, not because they make sense or are possible. And the passage of time isn't really explained -- Jake leaves his avatar for hours (days?) on end, but when he comes back, he jumps right back into the mix. A big time event movie that should be seen in the theater, and then not really ever again.

Meh. The movie is a bit boring and is completely not special in any way. Don't waste your time.
