An American Pickle

The film’s plot, adapted by Simon Rich from one of his short stories, is unfortunately saggy. But Rogen’s performance remains rock-solid throughout.

An American Pickle is a real movie, and it’s delightful.

Pitched somewhere between outrageous satire and sincerity, the movie has a tough time finding its priorities, but it’s endearing to watch it try.

An American Pickle is charming and moving whenever it is content to be a two-man play. That's where the dramatic and thematic action happens. And it happens mainly through Rogen's dual performance.

Part time-travelling family drama, part idiosyncratic immigrant-adventure comedy, An American Pickle’s gags underwhelm, but its emotion and originality will surprise you. One of oddest films of 2020 so far, buoyed by two superb turns from Rogen.

Rogen does a remarkably fine job in creating two distinct characters.

There are actors who can pull off dual roles, and now we know Seth Rogen isn’t one of them.

I thought it was alright, although I'm sure this picture rubbed a few Christians the wrong way! They are definitely a sensitive bunch (when it comes to people who don't share the same beliefs as themselves), and I'm sure that's where some of the negative reviews came from. I feel like this would've been a good film for the late great Robin Williams to star in.

An American Pickle is a decent movie. The movie's got an interesting story, decent acting, great cinematography, some good humour, bad pacing and quite a few plot holes.

Perfectly fine. Not Rogen’s best or funniest films, but probably one of his better performances. Worth the 90 minutes if you have HBO Max

This movie was all over the place. Is it a comedy? It's not particularly funny and definitely not witty. Is it a fantasy? The fantasy aspects are treated pretty casually. Is it heartwarming? Not really. The message it tries to deliver is predictable and far from earth ****. Some may like it, but, to me, it was like a long unfunny joke that was all setup and no payoff. Frankly, I’m surprised it was made.

Not very memorable, while it has a interesting premise it's wasted with crude and racist humour. A poor script and very offensive targeting towards certain groups. Seth Rogen praises one culture and religion but is very discriminatory and racist towards others.
