Really stupid movie…I laughed so many times in scenes I should be terrified or scared.This is like watching an AI generated movie with the prompt: „You are a famous director for music videos. Please create scenes with catchy ideas but don’t make the scenes too exciting.Just try to make it different and **** know what - forget it. No clips - make a movie.Make a horror movie with a simple hook: The movie is set in a apocalyptic world where the blind monsters only have one sense: they can hear…and the people who survived those very strange monsters want to have an ordinary life. But they don’t get what they want. Yeah!And please make it boring and Involuntarily funny. Thanks!“

Overrated. How does a generic horror with a "quiet" gimmick score 82.. My friend who is new to horror liked it more than me but it's because he's new. Predictable plot, once the enemy was out the "cat is out of the bag".

Some great acting, especially from the deaf child. A good, suspenseful film that kept me watching to the end, and made me crave for more. Well worth watching.

It has a tendency to get bogged down in minor details, which detracts from the overall plot direction. This results in some logical inconsistencies and plot holes that break the immersion. It's still enjoyable, but it has its flaws.

I greatly enjoyed A Quiet Place. As a massive fan of the horror and science-fiction genre, this movie has a special place in my heart. Like with all horror movies, there are some problems that the protagonists need to solve or overcome in some way. In this case, the protagonists live their lives while making minimal noise to alert the creatures which hunt by sound. While I have some complaints about how the characters sometimes make stupid decisions this is common in horror movies. Overall I loved this movie!

You're silent or you're dead in this unique twist on the post-apocalypse. Stalked by blind, stick-like predators with unnaturally precise hearing, a small family struggles to carry on and make a life for themselves in an abandoned farm house. Seems like it's tough to find genuinely new, original concepts in genre film these days, but A Quiet Place certainly fits the bill. We've grown so accustomed to big bangs and fiery finales on the silver screen that ninety minutes of quiet stillness feels like a completely foreign experience. The near-total silence is efficiently played for dramatic tension, poked and prodded in inventive ways that demonstrate the lengths this family has gone to maintain normalcy (exterior doors left permanently open, sand-lined paths through the most commonly used walkways) and, occasionally, broken in a few moments of pure, unguarded terror. As gimmicks go, it's a particularly effective one, though the plot is often forced into contrived scenarios to connect its various ideas and to artificially generate extra layers of suspense. It's one of those movies where you'll facepalm over boneheaded decisions and wonder aloud how these people managed to survive for so long. In other words, it manages to both buck horror stereotypes and embrace them. The potential was there to be much better.

When A Quiet Place first hit theaters in 2018, the astonishing story was easy to follow and easily entertaining. Most viewers would like to think of it as another generic thriller movie. I like to think about it as a heartfelt one-of-a-kind movie, one that needed a lot of thought and effort. It is always a delight to get to see a new concept in a horror film. Especially when the execution is good and the characters aren't unrealistically dumb. This film delivers.

It was ok. The characters (kids mostly) did not behave as if they had been in this quiet world for over a year, and where did that nail come from? I'm an Office fan, too, and I really want Krasinski to do well, but this movie isn't a plus 8 rated movie. It's ok. I won't watch it again. Meh.

Yeah, yeah, this movie has almost no dialogue. Wow. Amazing. (Not that there are films like DON'T BREATH, MOEBIUS, and a whole bunch of silent films that did the same schtick). The problem with having no dialogue is, however, that the audience can't be thrilled/entertained/distracted by some well written lines. So I discovered A LOT of plot holes/plain stupid stuff. And I had the time and silence to think about all the things that didn't make any sense whatsoever. There are many jump scares and they ****. I did like the cast, and the direction. Some nice cinematography, interesting monster design, and a couple of suspenseful scenes do make this film entertaining. It feels longer than it actually is tho. I'm torn: A QUIET PLACE is immensely stupid and falls apart if you think more than one second about it. But it is entertaining enough, not too long, and does everything in its hands to make you forget about its plot holes. I don't get why this film got such positive reviews, while BIRD BOX received more mixed ones.

The Quite Place's attempts to grasp at psychological trauma like a teenager attempts to grasp at life. The story is almost as annoying as is Jennifer Kim's acting. The positive reviews by critics are more a reflection of the deterioration of intelligent thought in Western culture rather than anything it can offer the audience. You will be left angry you wasted your dime and your time on this movie.

A Quiet Place: Part 1, to this day, is still one of the freshest apocalyptic horrors (and just horror in general) I've seen. Thoughtfully paced and wonderfully plotted, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski head the Abbott family as they live their lives in a world where one single peep of noise will kill them. Selling this premise and its mysterious deadly creatures is an opening that holds nothing back, family dynamics that shine thanks to spectacular casting, and smart sound design that masterfully plays with silence. It's this latter part that truly hits the viewer hard, with dialogue all but non-existent, causing the viewer an unbelievable amount of tension and panic whenever a single, simple noise is heard. It's a film on another level, no doubt about it.

I don't think this is a horror movie at all. It could be a thriller and a drama. It has a good idea, but the execution is not the best.

Melodrama. Plot without a story. No ticking clock. Every character arc is boilerplate that feels like it was made hastily for television. Like maybe they pitched and sold the movie on the strength of the monster-novelty and then had to deliver a movie before they came up with characters or a story. BTW a novel monster does not make a premise. A premise is something like *Elizabeth Bennet must correct her own character faults AND demand the same of her reluctant suitor in order to find love and make a life for herself - before her family loses their home and she finds herself in a bad situation.* OR *Sarah Connor is being hunted by a mysterious killer and aided by an equally mysterious man whose preposterous story is nearly as scary. She must learn to trust others and accept responsibility/community role before the hunter-killer ends her [newly-important] life.* Actually, The Terminator (1984) seems like an informative comparison. First of all, you have a hero/main character/protagonist. A Quiet Place has none; it follows the post-narrative/television model of simply throwing a bunch of characters in a situation and leaving it to the audience to determine what is the moral vision of the artwork. Next there is a ticking clock of sorts. The Terminator is on a clearly accelerating timeline with ultimate stakes. When the monster finally kills Sarah Connor, humanity is doomed. In A Quiet Place, once the whole family is killed, then what? IDK - I assume there are millions of other such holdouts all over the world; and because these paper-doll characters are not proper movie characters with psychic dynamics, I really don't care at all about any of them. I could go on and on... Basically take any model from Aristotle's *Poetics* to the present and go down the list. Line by line, this movie fails to deliver almost everything that matters. A screenplay doesn't have to follow rules to be acceptable, but IMHO it has to at least acknowledge the existence of story. This movie follows the post-narrative model usually seen on television: simply sequence one surprising event after another. The fact that this movie is universally acclaimed makes me feel that I might be in my own fantastic dystopia. I feel a little crazy watching this, knowing how many smart, worldly people recommended it to me. So the movie is left with *just* plot. And the plot is no good IMHO. As others have noted, this is the kind of movie that invites incredulous questions. There are so many obvious solutions to their predicament that go unaddressed... I will tolerate a lot of slop in a horror movie - much more than any other genre. E.g. one of my recent favorites is The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster (2023), which has DEEP problems but I understand why they are there and I love it all the more for following its own rules to their conclusions. A Quiet Place is just a shiny piece of junk for people raised on distraction-amusement-entertainment devoid of story. My hope in spending all this energy to degrade something is that others like me will be warned off from spending 90m on this "movie." LOL now I'm imagining that last sentence as Sarah Connor's last soliloquy in The Terminator. "What's most difficult for me is trying to decide what to tell you and what not to..." My one point is for editing; at least the movie is taut, kinetic. Like a variation on the old joke: the food is terrible, but at least they got the portion right. The only other review I gave on this platform was similarly negative. Maybe I will just reserve this site as my outlet for negativity - keep it contained here so I don't become one of those people who delights in pointing out what's wrong with everything.

Smart, tense and well acted. A Quiet Place may have very minimal talking, but it never gets boring. The characters are well developed which makes you care about them.

John Krasinski took a break from his comedic roles to direct the horror film, A Quiet Place. Starring alongside his wife, Emily Blunt, the movie marked a departure from his usual style and a foray into the horror genre. The premise of the movie, set in a post-apocalyptic 2020 where the world has been overrun by monsters that hunt by sound, is not entirely original but it is executed extremely well. The Abbott family, Lee (Krasinski), Evelyn (Blunt), Regan (Simmonds), Marcus (Jupe) and Beau (Cade Woodward) must use sign language to communicate and with one of them being deaf, it becomes second nature. The family must stick together after a tragic accident causes their numbers to shorten, but with a newborn on the way, things won’t be easy. The use of sound is a major factor in the success of the movie, with silence and musical cues being used sparingly and cleverly. The small cast all perform confidently, with Millicent Simmonds being cast in part because of her being deaf to add authenticity. The movie is creepy and at times, seat-grippingly so, with moments that don’t require sound or dialogue to elevate them. Dont all movies have sound? Well, the director of 'A Quiet Place' is challenging that notion with a 90 minute movie which feels like it's over 2 hours. A Quiet Place has its strengths in the second half of the film which is intense, gripping and absolutely wonderful. However, the first part of the movie suffers from lazy writing, dragged sequences and a high level of tedious scenes and conversations which barely create intrigue for the viewer. But don't worry, wait a little longer and the story really picks up, and the movie slowly blends into a wonderful, heartfelt piece of cinema which emphasises to authoritarian or dystopian ideas into a realistic and quiet scenario.

Not as good as everyone says it is unfortunately but it's very interesting conceptually.

A Quiet Place. Walk only barefoot. A very interesting idea for the film, although perhaps not a new one, there have already been so many varieties of aliens that you can’t remember. However, the presentation itself, that almost the entire film takes place in complete silence, is already very mesmerizing. John Krasinski and the crew made good use of all that silence to keep the tension going. Unfortunately, a very short running time for such a story seemed, I just started watching, and already the end of the film. Also, very stupid moments of the plot are very striking, because of which you catch a facepalm on yourself. However, A Quiet Place is a great movie with amazing actors and an interesting story.

Horror very particular and innovatively brave. Although I had some misgivings when I started watching the film I noticed that it manages to entertain very well even if no one speaks, indeed, this fact makes the moments of tension lived much better. Only one negative note: I find in the needless death of a character that could be spared without any negative effect on the plot.

I thought a lot of this movie was plain ridiculous. The corn scene was incredibly ridiculous. Also, why are they even scared of these silly monsters? Like make a device that is indestructible by the aliens that makes a ton of noise and set it right outside of your house, or better yet just put a loud speaker where they cant get to (like high up in the air) and blast music out of it. I disliked this movie because the premise is sooo ridiculous.

I went into this knowing nothing more than half remembering half of a sentence of the synopsis essentially only thinking that it's about being quiet to stay alive. They took this high-concept and stuck to it without really doing enough to go above the concept. Worse still are the grating plot potholes that are dutifully ignored by the filmmakers. This family survive 3 months and basically are alone in the world but do some really stupid things. Plus, how did the threat survive with their main prey all but gone. Anyways the film looks great and sounds spectacular, possibly the best sound design I've ever heard, which is important for a film about not making a sound! Incredibly well acted. Pacing not perfect, for a 90-minute film it could lose 10 minutes, I looked at my phone a few times. Overall, it is worth seeing but it is very unrelenting and bleak, the filmmakers were not from the Hitchcock school of film.

It is one of the films that seems to me to have a good plot, since at all times I feel that all the spectators are in suspense and that the story develops well, until the end, because the interesting thing is that it does not leave you imagine what is going to happen next and everything is surprising when you see that event happen.

John Krasinski's chilling horror thriller is not the best of its kind, but it has substantial scares that are great for a Friday night.

This is a tense, gripping and understandably claustrophobic film. Its even disorientating at times but that only adds to the intended sense of being on high alert, as it were. Its interesting how certain sounds are noticed because of the lack of dialogue - something that might really bother, or bore even, some people but I liked the concept as something a little different, although I imagine its been done before in older films. I felt that Millicent Simmonds gave a particularly good performance, as the teen daughter Regan. She shows her fears and worries through her facial expressions well. This film won't appeal to all, its maybe not amazing or especially memorable as such but its certainly good and so, for what it is, I thought it was a well made film, hence I would recommend it, yes.

it's a bad film which contains bad writing and a bad story, It's about a monster which attacks people when they make sounds, and they arrived on earth by a meteor so creative!.

The monster in this movie is not one that you can run way from, you can't fight it or even hide from it. The sound sensitive monsters are not the stars of this movie, that role is occupied by a small cast of relatable characters that, with the stellar acting, will take you on a fight of survival in a dangerous new world. They aren't fighting just against the physical monsters but also an invisible and ever present one, despair.

(Mauro Lanari) In February 2014 and June 2016, the Krasinskis become parents of Hazel and Violet: John panics and belatedly wonders if he can be a good enough father struggling just to keep his daughters alive in a nightmare world. The answer is positive, so much so that in 2018 this couple, model of parenthood, shoots a post-apocalyptic survival horror that should metaphorize the above. Among references to Romero, Shyamalan and Carpenter, "A Quiet Place" imposes a rather pro-life message and a superhuman suspension of disbelief, the most sci-fi element of the film (soundproofing with sound-absorbing material: a concept unknown to humanity of the 21st century, plus a lot of other nonsense).

A quiet place (2018) review: silence has never been so terrifying. John Krasinski has seriously done a great job in this film: his acting and directing. The cast? Absolutely amazing. The children’s acting was amazing and Emily Blunt’s acting was superb. The atmosphere and cinematography was shockingly good. Jumpscares? VERY unexpected ones. Some almost made me scream. Although the story focuses only on a refugee (where the 4 survivors live) and not other environments, like in other parts of the world (more houses, cities…), it still does a great job by teaching us that silence is sometimes worthy. I watched this yesterday for the first time in preparation for A Quiet Place Part II. I loved it I was hooked right from the start all the way to the end. If it showed how it all started, and if there were less scenes with the muted dialogue I'd give this a 10.
