It's a tense, mostly successful thriller with a talented cast, but greater artistry in the thematic development and greater novelty in the plotting would enhance the freshness of the crime drama.

I had been wanting to see 1992 since I first saw the previews but upon watching it I have to say I think it is one of the best movies Tyrese has ever been involved in. The high stakes set to a historical situation that was incredibly relevant and still is incredibly relevant made it an edge of the seat thriller, and the fiery way that LA was taken down because of injustice and tyranny is something I feel needs to be continually reminded in order to ensure that similar scenarios do not occur again. The movie brought a lot of insight to the table on what still needs changing and how it is still relevant even now after the George Floyd murd#r and police brutality, systemic violence and racism. It's a movie I would rate up with American History X and Malcolm-X on importance and relevancy alike.

1992 did a good job at capturing the ongoing tension with gangs versus gangs and gangs versus civilians. It also showed the daily life struggles and perspective from a criminal trying to be rehabilitated. Tyrese did a good job but that’s not surprising with his catalogue. The LA riots definitely set a new tone on police brutality and the call for change. Watching the movie reminded me of the protest and riots during the pandemic. I would recommend this movie for a watch.

Vromen does make some efforts at re-creating the period. But what links 1992 to the era is that it feels like part of that wave of low-budget late-Nineties Heat knockoffs, all featuring a cast that can do better but hey, a paycheck is a paycheck. 1992 is just Hard Rain with the riots standing in for a storm.

Gosto de como o filme usa o ano de 1992 para ambientar sua história em meio a protestos que lembram o "Black lives matter", de modo a mostrar que isso não é novidade. Numa cidade tomada pelo caos de reivindicações (policiais acusados de assassinar um jovem negro serão absolvidos), o roteiro vai se dividir em dois núcleos, de um pai recém saído da prisão e que decide manter-se longe de confusões, tentando aprocimar-ae do filho, e o núcleo dos assaltantes, que tem é liderado por um patriarca que parece estar ainda se acertando com a prole. Obviamente, os núcleos se chocarão, mas todo potencial de efeitos pela construção de ambos os personagens se esvai em função de uma ação genérica de caça, e o filme se transforma num típico trailer policial.

Mixed review from me because the story on some parts was good but some parts was a bit cringe and the action part could've been much better storywise - felt a bit low budget feel to it or how to explain - feel you get when watching last movies Willis made (to compare)
