Level-5 just seems to pile on too many extras and makes things feel cluttered. [Issue #39 – May/June 2019, p. 71]

Yo-kai Watch 3 is the ultimate edition of the series thus far. It may not have evolved much from 1 and 2, but its new Tactics Board combat system and novel American-inspired setting keep the game fresh. With two separate protagonists and storylines to tell, the game takes a massive 40+ hours to complete, not including the plethora of sidequests and full-fledged minigames. Unfortunately, the story drags for much of the first half, and the two towns may be too big for their own good. All things considered, this latest entry revived my fandom for Level-5’s hit series, and I wait with bated breath for what the Nintendo Switch’s Yo-kai Watch 4 has in store.

There's not much to Yo-kai Watch 3, but there’s still a lot of charm to be found. The towns of Springdale and BBQ are both bright, pleasant places to be; the people in it are even more so. Visiting the world of Yo-kai Watch for the third time is a fun time, even though you’ll end up staying a lot longer than perhaps necessary.

Just a banger by level 5 its just insanely good with an enormous post game with around 750 Yo-Kai. Its extremely underrated

A super underrated game and for me personally, the best out of the 3 yokai watch 3ds games. This game is filled with content and has a really interesting story that will keep you on your toes.

I think this game is the perfect example of "monster collector" game with great gameplay and a great story that manages to keep the player engaged and amused. Wonderful.

Yo-Kai Watch 3, being the definitive edition of two Japan-only superb games, is here to remind us why the series is still alive on the Nintendo 3DS, how much it has evolved over the years and why gamers and fans alike should wait for the next installment on Nintendo’s newest platform. With a more developed and better approachable battle system, two big cities to explore, two stories to play through and even more Yo-Kai to battle and add to your Medallium, this new adventure promises tons of fun gameplay.

There are very few games that can make me smile the entire way through and that counts for a lot.

The story really shouldn't have worked, but by pulling a Phoenix Wright, they somehow found a way. Still, I think that switching between two stories isn't the best approach and the downtime with quests is somewhat damaging. Mind you, this is nothing you can't overcome with the right state of mind. The hours really fly by, and even after completion, I couldn't stop playing pieces where possible. For newcomers and veterans alike, this third installment has a little something for everyone.

Yo-kai Watch 3 will offer most RPGamers plenty of hours of fun. The game makes good use of the 3DS’s dual-screen in its final entry on the system with Yo-kai Watch 4 already confirmed as a Switch title. There are some annoyances, mostly related to a bit of unnecessary padding and a few potential roadblocks, and there’s a bit of sense of quantity over quality in some of its side content, but its general upbeat attitude towards everything is very welcome and on the whole successful.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the continuation of a series that basically remains the same, but with some new features that make it a bit more interesting than its predecessors.

Yo-kai Watch 3 knows that making a better game in this series after yo-kai watch 2 was nearly impossible, so instead they take a bunch of risks with major changes to the story, map, combat, and more. YKW3 is one of the greatest JRPGs on the 3DS and a personal favorite. With Nate (the male protagonist from the first 2 games) moving to a new town called BBQ, a fictional town based on the American south, it means they have to introduce new character and locations with an entirely new aesthetic compared to the calm Japanese towns from the first two games. Then the story introduces a new second protagonist who lives back in Springdale (the main town from the first 2 games) which allows them to reuse the old locations in a new way while keeping it fresh. This game feels like a celebration of yo-kai watch as a whole, referencing the past two games, one of the films that was releasing around the same time, and including anime plotlines as side content. I would recommend at least playing yo-kai watch 2 before this one but even without a lot of the context from past games it is a ton of fun.

Now this is what I call perfecting the formula. Yo-kai Watch 3 is the peak of the series. It's **** massive and brimming with content, tons of fun new features, characters and more. The fact it's on the 3DS and runs as well as it does is genuinely impressive with how much content this game has. The gameplay got a massive shakeup in this one, and it's genuinely the best in the series. Every fight isn't too easy or hard, it's just right. The game does lean inherently into the goofier aspects of 2, but the game doesn't really try to take itself as seriously this time either, so I can give it a pass. I don't think any other RPG has been able to be this consistently fun while still being ginormous for a 3DS game. High up there on my recommendations.

Good grief this game is terrible.
Little to no positives here, just a garbage kids'game like many others.
I had hopes for this game, hopes that were sadly not met.
Everyone is annnoying in this game, and it feels like the whole game is screaming in your face all the time.
It's an easy and boring kiddie RPG that would make Pokemon X feel like Persona 3, and the only good thing is the music.
No good jokes, no good characters, piss easy difficulty, atrocious story, and the overall fanfictiony feel doesn't help its case.
I won't pretend 1 and 2 were perfect, but they had charm.
They were good games, and they were able to make the idea of a japanese mithology monster collector work.
But with how disconnected this game is from the rest of them, you might as well just ignore it, especially with how hard it is to find.

SummaryMischievous beings known as Yo-kai are everywhere, and it's up to Nate and Hailey Anne to befriend, battle, and solve problems with them. Follow two parallel stories and unravel the mysteries behind strange sightings while meeting over 600 Yo-kai and using the new 3x3 grid battle system to strategically dish out or dodge attacks.
