This was my first yakuza game, and I only played it because it was free on ps plus. But I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. The game feels silly and ridiculous at times, the combat is easy and repetitive, yet there is something that kept me playing till the end. The story, characters and dialogue are really good, to the point where I actually started to care and wanted to know how it ends. Very few games can do this. So while the turn based gameplay itself is not that great, the story and characters make up for it. Also the low effort needed to play this makes the game quite relaxing to play when you are tired.

Turn-based games can feel repetitive, but action games can too. I stopped in Chapter 9 (about 22 hours in, roughly two-thirds through the game) because the bosses kept getting tougher and tougher. Sure, I could have continued leveling up my team through battles and side quests, but that shouldn’t be necessary on easy mode. If it weren’t for the boss difficulty, I’d rate the game a 7.

It’s a good story, though some moments lose their sense of seriousness and lean too heavily into typical anime territory. That may have been the creators’ main intention though: to tell the story from a perspective that feels different from the usual.

This game was a gamble, but so was Yakuza to begin with. Of course I was skeptical about the turn based combat system, but after my first fight I was immediately surprised by how much I enjoyed it! And that goes for the rest or the game. I stumbled upon this game by chance and decided to play because of its addition to PlayStation plus and figured i'd give it a shot, and i can gladly say that was one of the best gaming decisions I have every made! I wasn't expecting to love this game so much. The story and characters are perfect, especially Ichiban who is such an inspiring protagonist and has influenced me greatly. As I continued my "like a dragon" journey, i found myself wanting to be a better person, to follow my own path and become a hero in my own right. Ichiban is one of those chatacters that you can't help but love - hes whimsical, strong, honest, and an overall good guy. He is willing to stick his neck out to aid other people that he has only just met, no matter who they are. His encounters with the inhabitants of this world can range from heartwarming, intense, random as hell, to downright hillarious. No matter how wacky this game gets it never stops from being believable. Eacher character truly feel like their own individual personality, trying to make their way through this crazy world. Ultimately this game is about struggle, people trying to survive in an unforgiving world, and finding beauty in pushing forward. "Keep living, Ichi" - the final confrontation is heartbreaking, and the character dynamics are top notch. I dont regret a single moment I spent exploring this world, and I can't wait for my next Yakuza experience!

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a perfect instance of "passing the torch" in that its new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, is perhaps one of the most lovable characters a Yakuza game has ever created.

これは傑作。 脚本の、特に排外主義に対するメッセージになっているところは誰もが深く考えなければいけないような作りになっている。逆に、グレーな存在として日々を生きている人々に対してヘイトを向けているような人は、このゲームをやっているのならば、シリーズのプレイそのものをやめてしまえ。それぐらいパワーがあり、テーマを見ないのはとてももったいない。

I'm not afraid to say that this game changed my life. The story is so inspiring showing these middle aged people who still believe in their dreams and are not afraid to be theirselves despite what society might think. It's a story about dreams and friendship, a story about finding our place in this crazy world. It's never too late to be what we want to be. Before playing this game i hated the turn base combat but i really loved it in this game because it helped me to understand the real depth behind this system. The characters are so well written as the story is (Ichiban might be my favourite main character of all time) . Truly a masterpiece and an amazing experience, well done RGG

Far too many lengthy cutscenes, and even when you do get to actually play, the turn-based combat that makes up a significant chunk of the experience isn’t particularly satisfying.

At last Yakuza games is something more than button smasher. As a fan of the series I am very satisfied with the changes in battle system.

It was the series entry door for me and i really not regret it. The game was so refreshing in the RPG industry, clearly a banger.

I love Yakuza games and also turn-based games, so this is a perfect match. It doesn't happen often that I don't get bored of gameplay, but the gameplay in this game just keeps being enjoyable. Characters and story are nice as well, Ichiban is an amazing protagonist. When I was near the end of the game, I stopped playing for a few months because I just didn't want my adventure with Ichiban to end, but I'm happy I eventually finished the game.

take this game if you like JRPG, I like P5R and DW, but have to say this game takes more time for me to play with especially after work day, and for a 40+ man, it’s a good game.

The first game I've put a rating to that I've never actually finished. But after over 100 hours over the course of a couple years, I decided to put it down rather than grind another dozen hours to level up enough to finish. While I accept (and enjoyed for a good chunk of) the switch from real-time to turn-based combat, I ultimately can't say I prefer it. That being said, I am definitely on board with Ichiban as a main protagonist. He will never replace Kiryu, but it was definitely time for a switch-up with the franchise. I just hope Infinite Wealth won't require the same awful grind. I'm just not into that aspect of games anymore.

Honestly this game Is a chore to play. I play with mods to speed up the story and reduce the grind. The dull conversations are tedious to get thru, the employment office bit is a drag. Like when does the fun start!? This is a. Game…my real life has chores and this shouldn’t be one Too. Money is hard to get quick… thanks to WeMod. I am golden

Was harsh with my 6, game actually grew on me so much couldn't stop playing it

Decently written propagation of immigration with couple of fembosses. Artificially prolonged gameplay by running around the city and hunting specific enemies. Characters take stupid routes to enemies to get interrupted in the middle of an attack. I draw the line on this one and keep the memory of the Yakuza 1-5 + 0.

La verdad es que me ha dejado muy contento este juego. Los personajes son muy interesantes, la historia atrapa y las misiones secundarias son una maravilla. La jugabilidad es lo único que veochirriando.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon gets 93 Wario Points from I, The Wario Enthusiast. This is a Wario Worthy game

It's literally one of the greatest games ever made for the Ps4 and PS5. You can't go wrong with this game. It's probably one of the best like a dragon games ever made and it shows I would give this game a higher review if I could. That's how good the game is and I beat the entire game. It took 90 hours and it was worth every single hour. I would highly recommend this game.

Er zijn echt teveel dialogen en je hoeft bijna niets te doen dat deze gesprekken door te klikken. Het is geen game het is een interactieve film waar je af en toe een mannetje moet verslaan. Elk gevecht is hetzelfde. Ik heb 4 uur gespeeld en 10 keer een gevecht gehad. Verder niets gedaan dan gekeken naar een film.

Étant super fan des jeux Jrpg tour par tour ( hate action rpg) je trouve que yakuza LD est une bombe malgré que je préfère l’ambiance des mondes fantastiques yakuza malgré que l’histoire se déroule dans un monde moderne a su introduire une touche de fantaisie grâce à l’imagination débordante de Ichi que je trouve super touchant peut être que c mon nouveau perso préféré dans le monde de jeux vidéos le gameplay malgré qu il ait de **** défauts il est super bien implanté dans une franchise qui n a jamais était un jeux tour par tour Enfin la fin est super touchante je lui donne 9/10 et hâte de jouer a la suite

This game has my favourite plot in the Yakuza series, but the battle system does not really stands out in compare with other turn-based combat.

the perfect video game. The combat is amazing, the sidequests are hella entertaining, and the story is the best i have ever seen in a video game. All the faults of the game are, in the grand scheme of things, nitpicks

too much content, repetitive, andit takes too much time to lvl up. I do not recommend to platium the game based on personal preference it is not for everyone to enjoy

the turn based battles actually works compared to the action battles beforehand

[It should be under PC, but Metacritic don't allow me to remove score] It was my first Yakuza game. At first, I wasn't convinced by the storytelling style, but once I got used to it, I couldn't put the game down. I've tried to platinum the game, but one achievement was hard to get, so I ultimately gave up on it. Really great game. Recently I've bought a bundle with 7 Yakuza games (from Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 6) so I have plans for at least a year.

turnBASED kino is on the menu boys and it once again reminds square enix what a good videogame is. 9.8/10 (rounded up to 10).

This was such a breath of fresh air. I loved the direction they took. Great gameplay, great story & an amazing set of characters.

Loved the game! Very touching and inspiring story, also very fun game play even with turn based battle.

A solid title and a great new direction for the series. LAD proves that turn based combat still works and also that developers going for a more consistent approach to their combat even if its more boring is better than really janky action combat.

As my first introduction to the long-running Yakuza series, this game went above and beyond any expectations I set prior to playing it. The story, character writing/depth, the humor (actually funny), atmosphere, and turn-based combat were exceptional. Often times I would find myself focused on the main quest just to be distracted by an entire side quest which was entertaining enough to draw my attention towards that instead. You will ALWAYS feel like there is something to do, whether that is progressing the main story, crafting stronger weapons for an upcoming fight, building an entire business from the ground up, or simply playing a hand of Poker or Oichi-Kabu. If you're a fan of Pokemon, the game has its own "Pokedex" of enemies to encounter and log, each having their own "type weakness." The game even has its own version of Mario Kart - and I still haven't scratched the surface of things to do. I played with the original Japanese audio because the VA's are out of this world, but apparently, the dub is a great option as well.I don't 100% games too often these days, but I couldn't help myself here. I created an account on this website just to review; that's how strongly a pessimistic old salty gamer feels about this **** only complaints barring it from a perfect 10 are some wonky mechanics while navigating the city (running into countless NPC/party members) & some customization gripes (all party members' best class is their default class but in order to get more abilities, you will need to grind other jobs which I found to be tedious although rewarding). These are minor criticisms considering how well polished the rest of the game **** you're in need **** that provides true immersion/escapism, this should be at the top of your list. It's like being transported to Japan, where your focus and attention are entirely directed towards the game environment and its challenges. 9/10

Gave Up on Tendo. It ruined the game for me. I won’t grind, you got to respect players time. I got to live a live, you know. 34 hours down the drain because you think difficult boss means tedious sponge. I had to finish game by watching it on YouTube. Great story and characters, but gameplay aspect isn’t.

Ienjoyed it a lot. I can understand why some people don't like it. Turn based combat is a hard pill to swallow if you are not used to it. Game manages to be very friendly with the combat system. And story and characters are amazing as allways.

J'ai acheté ce jeu par hasard il y a 3 ans sur amazon juste parceque c'était spécifié que c'était un rpg au tour par tour . Comme j'adore ce style de jeu depuis plus de 30 ans , je l'ai donc mis de côté pour y jouer plus ****. Puis une connaissance m'a expliqué que ce n'était pas e premier de la série et que celà a commencé par yakuza 0 jusqu'au 6( uniquement en anglais et pas au tour par tour, beat them up) que j'ai fini par acheter également sur amazon toute la série après avoir adoré commencer yakuza 0 avec kiryu Kazuma.Yakuza like a dragon peut se commencer seul , puisque le protagoniste , ichiban Kasuga est le nouveau héros du jeu. Mais beaucoup de référence aux anciens opus vous fera défaut si vous n'avez au moins pas essayé le 0 ou fait pour vous faire une idée des différents clans de la mafia **** particularité de ce jeu , hormis son gameplay , c'est la profondeur des personnages ( ichiban est très attachant et très réaliste dans ses convictions), de l'histoire principal sombre et mystérieuse et incompréhensible au début. Beaucoup de questions que l'on se pose pour avancer. Mais ce qui fait le " sel" de ce jeu , c'est également les quêtes secondaires complètement barrés et loufoques, des mini-jeux prenants , qui vous demande de l'investissement pour en venir à bout.... mais tout d'une manière ludique et propre à la série comme seul le studio ryu ga gotoku sait le faire.J'ai été transporté, emballé par l'histoire pleine de rebondissements et de twists, j'ai fini le jeu il y a quelques jours , 3 ans après l'avoir acheté. Je m'y suis consacré 2 mois et demi , plus de 80 heures de jeux. C'est devenu ma licence préférée et je peux que vous le conseiller. Un immense coup de cœur...

A fantastic entry into the Yakuza-verse. Loved the change of pace with this turn-based adventure. All of the characters, especially Ichiban, is really endearing. Another top notch story from Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, which always seems to impress. Tons of content and quests to explore as normal for a Yakuza game, but some of it feels even better here, with different activities and even more outlandish enemies and events.

Amazing, just amazing. One of the best games that I've ever played. Story, gameplay, optimization. It has everything. Sadly, this was my first Yakuza game, so I missed the references to the past games (like characters). Despite that, I enjoyed a lot playing the game.

Aside from the last 25% of this game, Yakuza Like A Dragon is amazing. Through my time playing the 7th entry in the Yakuza series I was always excited to see what new trouble or development that Ichiban and his gang were dealing with and how he brought everyone together. This game is truly an amazing soft reboot of the series, and while there are plenty of references to the original games, this really feels like a step forward in the right direction.Seriously! The majority of Yakuza 7 is wonderful, but that last part of the game can feel a bit like a drag with how everything is set up. Not so much the finale, but how you get to it. Largely the difficulty spike have to do with leveling up and dealing with Kasuga dies game over mechanic. While I certainly think the majority of this game is easier for newer RPG players; the fact we have to deal with such blunt boss design is not something every RPG player comes across. A lot of RPGs let their main character die in battle because it makes for a much more interesting game dynamic. Having to worry about Kasuga dying certainly isn't a big problem for the majority of the game, but for roughly 3 boss fights, it is.Yakuza 7 is still a stellar game though, and one that makes great use of RPG elements, narrative, characters, and Yakuza staples. Honestly it was a bit worrying when I heard that Yakuza 7 was going to be a RPG, but gosh does this work so well for the series. Not only does it allow itself to open up more, but also gives more characters a chance to shine! Honestly having Ichiban have a whole crew was a great change of pace, and one that helps make the story better due to higher emotional ties. The cast for Yakuza 7 isn't only more diverse, but interesting to boot. I would have seriously loved to see more substories staring the cast, but Ichiban is still plenty entertaining.Ichiban Kasuga really is the meat to this whole game. While I do miss Kiryu; Ichiban fits into his own niche of himbo that feels similar, but drastically different in his own way. Ichiban isn't exactly the smartest person in the world, but his emotional intelligent and ability to inspire others is chad worthy. On top of that, the game highlights the fact that Ichiban grew up in a soap land, and sex workers where a big part of his life. So much so that this game generally shows sex workers as human beings that may not be able to do more than just that. While it certainly isn't the full message we want, Yakuza continues to prove just how progressive it is.Overall Yakuza Like A Dragon is a new start to an already wonderful franchise, and with the way they pivoted into RPG battles and mechanics is amazing. If this was just another brawler, I don't think this game would have it me in the emotions nearly as much as it did, and because of how well crafted the story and character interactions were nearly all the emotional beats hit exactly how they were suppose to. Honestly if you ever wanted to get into the series, this is a wonderful place to start, and one that truly shows risks can pay off in ways you never expect.

The fight with tendo and his instant death move even if blocked ruined the game for me

The writer obviously used Kiryu's story as inspiration, having Ichiban voluntarily go to jail. But unlike Kiryu, who takes the fall for Yumi's sake, Ichiban goes to jail to thank his boss for giving him a job! How can you respect a guy who does that? It's no wonder the same boss then ignores him, shoots him and throws him in a bin. Not long after that, the story seemed to lose steam so I stopped playing. As for the turn-based combat, I accept that the button-mashing of previous games can get tedious, but this is going to the other extreme, it doesn't work at all.

Introduction: I played this game for about 30 hours, and i loved my time with it, but due to personal reasons I had to stop and delete the game. It is one of my biggest gaming regrets. The good: It looks good, and the turn-based combat just clicked with me and felt fresh and never dull. The characters are interesting and memorable. Same can be said of the side missions. The side activities/mini-games were purely entertaining and I was happy about their inclusion. This game is simply juicy in all aspects, there is so much substance there, even the story captivated me. The writing and japanese voice acting were good too. What could have been improved: this is a rare thing for me to say, but i dont have any complaints, even minor, to make about this game. I give yakuza like a dragon 85/100, ikimasho, ichibannnn
