The game perfectly captures the expansiveness of frontier life and the gritty gunplay of spaghetti westerns, rightfully earning its place alongside the great Western films and the best Rockstar games. [Issue#206, p.86]

While Rockstar San Diego may find some difficulty in filling its open expanses with interesting and emergent play, it does imbue it with a stark beauty and compelling narrative that makes Redemption more than just an allusion to cinema, but a piece of work that can confidently stand next to it. [Issue#96, p.94]

It's a tremendously detailed and authentic realisation of the Wild West with great stories, characters and inner workings.

**Red Dead Redemption – Review (10/10)***Red Dead Redemption* is one of those rare games that feels unforgettable from the moment it starts. The world is massive, detailed, and alive in a way that few games manage to pull off. Riding across the deserts, plains, and small towns of the frontier never gets **** story is easily one of the strongest parts of the game. John Marston is a fantastic protagonist, and his journey feels personal, emotional, and incredibly well written. Every major character you meet adds something memorable to the experience, whether they’re allies, enemies, or just strange people living out on the frontier.Gameplay blends action and exploration perfectly. Gunfights feel satisfying thanks to the Dead Eye system, while side activities like hunting, bounty missions, and random encounters make the world feel dynamic. You can easily spend hours just roaming around and still discover something new. What really makes *Red Dead Redemption* special is the atmosphere. The soundtrack, the landscapes, and the quiet moments riding through the wilderness all come together to create something that feels more like a classic Western film than a typical video game.Very few games manage to combine storytelling, gameplay, and world-building this well. *Red Dead Redemption* isn’t just a great Western game — it’s one of the greatest games ever made.**Score: 10/10**

Rockstar have redeemed themselves and there's no need to return to the city after providing this compelling argument against automotive transportation.

If this game's concepts seem even remotely interesting to you, head out immediately to your nearest game store and slap your cash down. The single-player story alone is more than worth the price of admission, and the multiplayer is truly unique and will likely evolve into something very special as the community continues to grow.

This is so much more than a mere retooling of Rockstar's tried and tested open world formula – it's an artful take on a world long lost, an evocative paean to not only the Western genre but also to the beautiful expanse of the American landscape.

Certainly not without a few imperfections, Red Dead Redemption is almost unquestionably the best Western-themed game ever, with a great Old West story, an amazingly detailed and expansive landscape that most Rockstar sandbox games are famous for and overall engrossing gameplay that will keep gamers riding off into the sunset for dozens of hours.

Everything that we loved about GTA IV but with its own voice. A gaming goldmine. [Aug 2010, p.81]

Gorgeous and feature packed, it's the new benchmark of open world adventures and a must play for gamers with itchy trigger fingers.

In the end, Red Dead Redemption is going to please a lot of gamers who are simply starved for a new world to explore and the Wild West, even though the game takes place at the end of that era, is ripe for the taking.

Just like RDR2, its a solid but not fantastic game. Writing isn't as good as 2 though but that's not to say it's bad. First 30% is pretty boring but it picks up well once you get to Mexico. Ending feels sort of abrupt but it's still good. John's also great protagonist.
