Your non-gamer friends will be dazzled by the immediately intuitive controls and the imported Miis. But the title sacrifices incredible depth and visuals for an immediately accessible experience.

The bottom line, really, is that Wii Sports, as a multiplayer game, is downright fun. Whether your thing is tennis, baseball, golf, bowling or boxing, you’re bound to be smiling - at least for a few seconds - while playing Wii Sports.

For the hardcore there’s not much here that you’ll be playing for more than an hour other than the training mode which gives you a lot of challenges but ultimately falls flat.

Trying to reach a 2300 score in Wii Tennis (without glitches) is a very hard challenge (but good for moving around). Even staying above 2000 for as long as possible is pretty hard.I have played over 1400 sets so far (over the years), and my best was 2180, with 55 best-of-3 wins in a row. Still far away from consistently beating the game. Also, take care to include rest days in between, otherwise your elbow will hurt.

I have only one word to say about this wonderful and joyful game, ABSOLUTE CINEMA.

Wii Sports is the title that made the Wii get more popular and outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3. Wii Sports is a sports game consisting of 5 sports that introduces the player to the Wii Remote motion capabilities. The game has Tennis, Bowling, Baseball, Golf and Boxing. All those sports use motion controls in a very intuitive and fun way, so it gets easier for people who never experienced a video-game before to have an first experience with it. Tennis has a simple gameplay, just swing the tennis racket as you would do normally. Golf and baseball are also the same thing. Bowling is probably the most simple game and boxing needs to have a Nunchuck (separate from the Wii Remote). All the sports have nice graphics and most notably Tennis and Golf brings a vibe of the Frutiger Aero aesthetic from the 2000's because of their settings full of grass and in an sunny area, without forgetting the glossy buttons in the menu. For all of this, and innovating the gameplay of consoles, Wii Sports deserves a 10/10.

In terms of control and immersion, Wii Sports destroys the competition and provides an excellent foundation for other developers to build upon.

It's bloody good fun and you'll enjoy playing it for ages. [January 2007, p.38]

The game's meant to be a no-frills, no-pressure entry point into the Wii and its bizarre new way of playing videogames, and it's impressive that it manages to be a lot of fun at the same time.

Despite these two solo modes, Wii Sports is really all about getting some friends together and playing a few matches of tennis or bowling. The game isn't designed to be a true authentic sports simulation, it's all about the sheer entertainment value, and this is where Wii Sports really shines.

Who needs the outside world when you can get some decent exercise in your very living room or bedroom? It may not be anything rigorous, but it'll get your body moving in ways that it normally may not.

Wii Sports is neither bulging in features nor graphically impressive, but when you put everything together, you have a fun package that, although better in places than others, is varied enough to keep you entertained for a good while and brilliant in multiplayer.

It's free, so you're getting what you pay for. Yes, it can be fun, but it should have been a lot better.

A very good game. The sports selection is very good but after playing Wii Sports Resort this game feels like a tech demo more than an actual video game. I still think it is really fun and a enjoyed a lot the daily trainings, something that Resort didn't have.

I guess this wouldn't have been the classic it is today if it were not firstly offered with the Wii console. 'Wii Sports' directly showed that this console was a family console. With these family-frendly graphics, controls and handling it had everything needed to get in everyone's hands. I guess that point is a marvelous success. The sports proposed are varied. It would have been even better if you didn't have to do the same moves over and over again to progress in the game. Plus at the beginning (before the apparition of the blessed Wii Motion Plus) the moves were not that accurate. Tennis is the mini-game you can play while sitting down and just swing your Wii-mote at the right moment. Golf requires a bit more control but that's all. Music, even if funky and joyful quickly becomes repetitive and uninspiring. It eventually goes the same way for gameplay. Let's be honest 'Wii Sports' was just a demo and we all played it for a way too long time before major games like Smash Bros and Twilight Princess came to our homes to revolutionize the Wii catalog.
SummaryTennis (1-4 players): Players grab the controller like a racket and swing – the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position. Baseball... Read More
