Surprisingly, it's a pretty good game that imo actually isn't inferior to its predecessor expansions. 1.) The campaign is rather difficult even on normal against Chaos and Imperial Guard, whereas other factions are easier to beat. I only managed to win against them by saving their fights til the end, where I had maximized Wargear, Honor Guard, Spoils of War. 2.) I was using the latest game version 1.3 of Steam but still had a persistent crash "Failed to create dump file:" (error 183)" after Chaos stronghold, Sisters of Battle stronghold, Imperial Guard stronghold and Jalaganda Lowlands, for which one just has to lower the graphics settings shortly before to prevent it or install the Soulstorm Bugfix Mod. 3.) The 2 new factions Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle are well done, but they're the weakest of the 9 races in tier 4 late/end game, but still Dark Eldar have the 4th highest win rate and Sisters of Battle are still a bit better than Space Marines. 4.) The newly introduced air combat is not perfect imo, as some air units are only situationally useful, like Attack Scarabs purely versus other aircraft. 5.) I'm glad this expansion was made, it's the most balanced and offers a whole 2 new factions, has a great novel intro whereas Winter Assault simply reused the intro from the base game, plus there's the Unification Mod (contains Tyranid, Ultimate Apocalypse, Crucible, etc.), the Dow Stats Balance Mod still needs a lot of improvements and also the ability to easily play PvP. As graphics mods I'd recommend these: redux mod or graphics mod 3 ybivakaor or qbebab graphic mod. 6.) After you can beat each race on ai difficulty insane, you can start multiplayer: I'd then definitely get Dow Stats Client for optional gridkeys, remove fog, camera mod (or from Soulstorm Discord).
Race tier list based on winrate in high rated games: 1.) Eldar: 55.7%, 2.) Necrons: 51.7%, 3.) Chaos: 51.5%, 4.) Dark Eldar: 50.7%, 5.) Orks: 49.6%; 6.) Imperial Guard: 47.3%, 7.) Tau Empire: 47.1%, 8.) Sisters of Battle: 45.7%, 9.) Space Marines: 45.6%

Soulstorm, the final expansion of the first Dawn of War, features almost identical gameplay to Dark Crusade, with a few changes. Again, it has a very shallow campaign mode that consists of capturing certain areas on the map to win. What I don't understand about the Warhammer 40K series in general is why they've spent decades writing a massive backstory lore spanning hundreds of books. Because they never had the intention of making a story-oriented game that would truly reflect these. If your goal is story, I recommend you stay away from Dark Crusade and Soulstorm DLCs. Their story content is so superficial that it barely fills even a few pages, and their gameplay is frustrating and boring. You can learn whatever story they are telling by opening it and reading it on the Wiki page.

Just text (crutch) to save the game to the list. Such things. Maybe I'll do a review later.

Not much new apart from two new races and a few new units but if you enjoyed the previous game, you'll enjoy this. The problem is the game crashes at the end of certain campaign missions and during load screens and the only fix is to set the graphics settings but the lowest possible but even this doesn't work 100% for the time.

Посредственное продолжение без какой-либо новизны. Играть скучно, а некоторые баги не дают проходить игру на высоком уровне сложности без жульничанья. Моды на эту такие же бестолковые. Разок сыграть и забыть навсегда

I enjoyed this game as much as the previous 3. Again, I miss the lack of a more detailed story, but it was fun to play as one of the two new races the Sisters of Battle. Like Dark Crusade, there is a little bit of grind going on, but it's enjoyable all the same

The game is great but it just doesn't add anything new and actually feels worse in some aspects. New races are obviously cool but they don't make up for the problems. Multiplayer is fun though.

Кампания лучше, чем в дарк крусейде. Прошел раза 3 за имперскую гвардию. Сестры битвы и темные эльдары не оч.

After the release of "Winter Assault" and" Dark crusade". I thought that the guys will be fully engaged in work on "Dawn of War 2", I tried to believe that it will be similar to Dark Crusade, with Necrons, Tau, and the Imperial army, with the possibility of building bases, etc. but in 2008, we were "delighted" with the release of Soulstorm - for two years, the developers have added a couple of new maps, two playable races, and aircraft and THAT's all nothing more.

A nice addition to the original Dawn of War but it's still poor in comparison to the changes from Winter Assault and Dark Crusade. Planetary expansion is quite long and sometimes demanding but not satisfying enough. The only interesting thing in the campaign is attack on the enemy's main base, fortunately multiplayer is much more fun. Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldars were maybe good in theory - on the battlefield they are no match for the rest of the armies. It's fine that we got the air-forces too even if they're not changing that much. And I know, this is a RTS game but dialogues could be more matching and interesting for this story. Games from W40k deserve engrossing script.

Several years later, it's still one of my most cherished RTS games. This is the most complete videogame based on the warhammer 40k setting to date. While I would have prefered it to have a campaign similar to Winter Assault, it is nevertheless an exceptional single-player experience.

I play the table top version as well, but love these DOW games! Love making a huge Waaaagh! Of Orks. This game lets you fulfill that vision of the Green Tide taking over! Graphics appear to be the same, which is good since they looked stunning since the game was first introduced. You still see certain models do super kills and special kills(Bloodthirster I think it is with the giant axe, picking some one up, and smacking them like a baseball) Gameplay, totally recycled from Dark Crusade, which is a good thing! If it isn't broken, don't fix it.(Unlike DOW2 which **** cause you can't build huge armies any more) Storyline, as much as there was in DC, which for this style works. It isn't about Group A vs Group B, it is about Group A taking over every thing. The only reason I give it a 9/10 and not 10/10 is because... NO TYRANIDS! How do the Sisters get in but not Tyranids?!?!?!?!?! AAAAAA!!!!! Anyways, great game if you like RTS games. Better than Starcraft in my opinion because of the more graphic fighting/kills and less crystal mining and more killing!

This Game for me gets a 8 Its based on this game as a stand alone and not comparing it to its previous dark crusade game. 9 races to play with so u got alot of time to discover and try new tactics. The pros: Number of races, game play The cons: Some people complained about loading times. The game is Buggy so u have to get the 1.2 patch. The AI **** sometimes, especially your allies when you are being eaten alive by the enemy they sit with their relic unit at some point and dont do a thing. Sometimes the games are good. not EPIC. U can only find epic online with good players. This review doesnt take into consideration this was a rushed game and disappointed its fans.

A major disappointment after how good Dark Crusade was. The two new races add nothing new (there's already 7 from the previous expansions), air units are basically flying tanks that only ranged units can attack (and there's a lot of melee units so this is kind of a big deal), and the campaign is recycled from Dark Crusade with marginal changes. Worst expansion and not worth playing over the previous releases.

Looks nice, chronically average gameplay. Necrons genuinely feel different to play; Tao play like the **** love-child of the Necrons and the Eldar, and all the other races are basically the same with different, albeit nice looking skins. *Yawn* of War.

Still playing this game on-line. Don't understand why i like it so much, i simply like it regardless of the balance and bugs of game.

Soulstorm does not deliver - the campaign is sub-par compared to Dark Crusade, and 40k cannon is pretty much **** (imperial guard general simply 'loosing' one hundred Baneblades - good laugh, though). The game is, like it's precedessors, ok online, though the new races don't seem balanced enough.

I had a lot of fun with this game, doesn't get old too fast for me which is surprising because there really isn't much diversity in the game, there's only so much you can do each round so that is why the game gets old, not enough customization. It is too close to starcraft (except starcraft actually has a better progressive system for it's units with the technology system, but I also don't like starcraft as much) and I think it should add in elements of the total war RTS system, kind of mix them, and make it one of a kind.

This game killed Dawn of War, the introduction of flying units (that never really flew they just couldn't be attacked in close combat by other ground units) and the buggy Dark Eldar and Sisters Of Battle, again the campaign was a risk type control all locations on the system map, but you could play as any race again this ruins the story of it overall the worst expansion for Dawn of War and quite possibly the worst game ever made
