Just never really got the feel for this game. I personally didn't like the graphical style or gameplay. Not to my taste rather than bad.

Graphics and sound interaction are interesting and after a little bit I got into the game. However, area 5 of the normal game is poorly designed. There's an easy section that takes about 5 minutes and is interesting the first time you go through it and then a boss fight split into multiple stages. Unfortunately you have to waste your time going through the easy section again to get to the boss fight if you fail any of the 4+ stages of it, which made it feel like unnecessary grind. Area X is an enjoyable short additional piece to the game. Reasonably enjoyable, but no replay value from my personal point of view (although I appreciate lots of others would disagree).

Even for free on PSPlus this game is not worth it. The insanely long loading times (not just each time you start, but even on the character selection screen) are ridiculous and inexcusable. Feels very much like a free to play game with all the DLC as well.

Railroad Tycoon 35
Jan 24, 2021
Sadly not up to the high level of Railroad Tycoon 2. Decent to play, but nowhere near as enjoyable. The graphics switched to 3d and, in my opinion, became worse in ergonomics. Cut scene quality was better though. The internal economy was made more life like, but unfortunately they really oversimplified picking what your trains transport. The combination of both these things made the game far too easy. Buying certain industries is just too easy and profitable and not having to worry about what your trains transport (auto carriage picking as the default) means you can just buy trains and leave them to make cash in most scenarios. Overall a backwards step from the prequel. Shame.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution7
Jan 18, 2021
Well worth playing if you enjoyed Dawn of War II and the Chaos Rising expansion. Again introduces a few new mechanics, but this time they're easily understood. This felt easier than Chaos Rising and the original (Space Marine Assault Squads with flamers are overpowered against non-boss enemies). There are a few more cut scenes that move the story along nicely and the space map is better, although I personally didn't like the smaller squad of special characters (mainly because I disliked Cyrus as a character). Graphics are very good considering the age (although cut scene graphical quality is poor). Still very much enjoyed playing through this.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising7
Jan 18, 2021
Well worth playing if you enjoyed Dawn of War II. It introduces a few new mechanics that aren't well explained, but once you Google them they're easy enough to pick up and give a slightly different take on the game. Graphics are very good considering the age (although cut scene graphical quality is poor). Very much enjoyed playing through this.

Once you get used to the main change from DoW (no base building) and read up a bit about what's going on (no tutorial) this is an enjoyable game. Graphics are very good considering the age (although cut scene graphical quality is poor). Very much enjoyed playing through this and look forward to playing Chaos Rising.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy6
Jan 11, 2021
An enjoyable enough game, with some exciting scenes at the end. Very much like Uncharted 4 but with a less exciting story. Graphics are great looking in some places although items in the distance are blurred and there is texture pop up. The 30fps frame rate really shows in some scenes. The 3d in this game, even with motion blur minimised, gave me headaches and I had to play in 20-30 minute bursts. Some of the interaction between the characters grates at the start and in the middle but gets better at the end. The more "open world" section with the jeep was frustrating to navigate. If you like Uncharted games you'll like this. It was well worth the £6 I paid but I did find it reminded my of my typical frustrations with Uncharted games - looking great, a few simple puzzles but really just button pressing in most of the right places (and sometimes they have to be exactly the right place).

Rubbish game, even though it's free. I wanted to like this game, and admit it's not the normal sort of game I'd play but thought I'd give it a go as it was given away free on PSN. The 3d engine used pinches the corners of the screen when turning which personally leaves me with motion sickness. An FOV increase made the game look completely offscale. The graphics, whilst initially good looking, actually encompass some lower quality textures, which is disappointing. Gameplay wise it's really annoying in this day and age to bounce back off tiny hedges and such like that create invisible walls to keep you on a certain path. 1 hour in and I couldn't stomach anymore and uninstalled it. Shame.

Really good looking, and the colossi look amazing. However the fiddly controls and associated lag wreck the game completely for me. It's also quite samey after you've seen a few of the beasts as well. Very disappointing.

At first I didn't get the way I was supposed to play through this game and platformers are not really a favourite genre of mine so I didn't gel with it, but... Then I realised the order of things and surprisingly found myself quite enjoying the game. The graphics are bright, colourful and good and the use of the new controller's features add interest. Really quick re-starting after dying help keeps the pace up and I found myself enjoying it (for a platformer!) Just the right length to make me want to finish it as well. Certainly worth the money (free!)

FIFA 215

Graphics receive a decent bump for the PS5 and look verygood (where they are using the real player face). Presentation is as good as ever, but it really slows the game down in career mode which is what I enjoy playing. It significantly takes away from the enjoyment of just playing game after game. You should be able to skip certain cut scenes far quicker as well as move from game to game quicker (i.e. give us an option to just simulate all training and don't ask/make you press a different button each time to do that) Injury time needs fixing - quite often +1 minute goes on for 5+ minutes. Overall, I enjoyed 20+ hours with the game, but have now uninstalled it and probably won't go back to FIFA for another couple of years.

Fun for a while and then gets too samey. with a lack of depth. It's just not as good as Dirt 3 and after 7 hours I just got a little bored and decided to dash for the end rather than try every race. Now uninstalled and I can't see myself playing it again. Graphics are good and nicely vibrant. Although in quality mode there is a hit to the frame rate when things get busy. This is an arcade racer rather than a sim but the complete indestructibility of your car ruins the fun in some ways as you just shove your way to the front and use the barriers to get around some corners more effectively. No replays - this is a real shame, particularly considering the graphics. I personally also miss the old flashbacks - at least give people the option of them. Buggy - crashes quite often (about every 45 minutes of play time for me) and one race would just keep re-setting half way through and never let me finish it no matter how many times I tried. Save game corrupted at one point but managed to auto recover. I'd personally recommended waiting to buy it until it's significantly discounted.

Railroad Tycoon II: Gold Edition8
Dec 12, 2020
This game is still great to play. I played all the Railroad Tycoon's when they first came out but recently decided to play this again (including the Second Century campaign that I hadn't played previously). Had an absolute hoot. Although the graphics are slightly dated, there was a few issues getting it working in Windows 10 and some of the Second Century campaign is so tough that you need a little luck, the game is a compelling joy to play. I'm not sure I've ever tried to go for a completionist walk through **** before but I enjoyed this so much I was determined to get the Gold medal on every mission and ended up sinking a serious amount of time into it again. If I'd scored this back when it first game out 20 years ago it would have been a 9, but still a great 8 today.

Fun, short (~2 hours), fast paced FPS with nice, but simple cel shaded graphics. Missions are in short, bite sized chunks which make it enjoyable and compels you to keep trying/playing. Except for the final 2 missions (20&21) where the difficultly ramps up considerably and luck plays a large part (mission 20). Well worth the sale price of £2.

Over a decade old, but an enjoyable game. The graphics hold up well considering the age (although circular shapes look bad close up) and the story/cut scenes are very good and make you feel involved in the game, particularly as you play both sides. If you have trouble running it at the frame rates you expect you may need to delete the Game **** file before running it each time. This is a known bug and raised my frame from 30fps to 110fps on a 1080TI (4K ultra settings).

I enjoyed this game as much as the previous 2. Although at first I missed the lack of story, I then got to play the game with just the races I wanted to - Orcs and Necrons. Both play enjoyably differently and it's unusual for me to enjoy a game enough to effectively play through it twice. There is a little bit of grind going on, but it's enjoyable all the same.

If you take this for what it is - a 1993 game ported to make it playable on the modern PC - then it's a reasonably enjoyable shooter, particularly if you remember the original but never really played it. The graphics and sounds are understandably very dated.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Winter Assault7

Similar to my review of the original: - it's 16 years after release that I finally got round to playing this... - the in-game graphics have held up in a surprisingly okay way, although textures are of a low quality compared with today (as to be expected). - the sound and voice acting are good throughout, although some of the voices are a bit over-egged (still quite enjoyable). The single player campaign this time introduced a new dynamic of controlling 2 races in each mission and allowing you to effectively play as the good and bad guys resulting in 4 different races you can complete the game with, although there is an understandably shorter story as a result. At first I wasn't a big fan of the Order campaign, probably because you start of as the Imperial Guard which is a bland group to play as. I also found that playing as 2 races in each mission felt a little confusing and didn't allow you to fully get to grips with each race. However, the disorder side of the campaign was thoroughly enjoyable - particularly the Orcs and I played through to complete the game with all 4 races. Overall, different to the original but equally good and fun even 16 years later.

16 years after release I finally got round to playing this... The in-game graphics have held up in a surprisingly okay way, although textures are of a low quality compared with today (as to be expected). The graphics in the cut scenes is very 2004 :) The sound and voice acting are good throughout, although some of the voices are a bit over-egged (still quite enjoyable). I only played the single player campaign and enjoyed it, it was about the right length and there was a nice twist at the end. It took about 11 hours to complete on hard. I say it's about the right length as the missions can all be done in a very similar way - play defensive for a while, build up the strongest army you can and you're then unstoppable. Overall I found it fun and will play the expansion packs at some point.

I enjoyed this game. The story is very good and the nemesis system is interesting. The graphics hold up very well for the age of the game. I did have slight frustrations with: the mouse/keyboard controls until I managed to set the sensitivity high enough on my mouse (with software outside the game, unplayable slow without it), a bit too much grinding at times (although the 2nd part adds a new dynamic that keeps it interesting) and the interaction with the environment is not always up to what it should be (doesn't react to the buttons you're pressing in the right way for the moment).

I was really looking forward to this after playing the first game but after an interesting first 6 hours getting to grips with it, the game then just becomes a monotonous grind to the end with a story that is just far less interesting than the original. Good points: - The graphics are much improved and the cut scenes are well presented. Bad points: - Far too much grinding e.g. forcing you to travel from X to Y in the late game adds nothing and just irritates as at that point any little interruption isn't worth bothering with as your ship overpowers everything/you have all the money you'll ever need anyway. - Generally less grand than the original - a far smaller range of ships and weapons that are relatively easy to quickly pick up. The story is also just far less interesting/exciting. - Crashes. I forgave the first game for this as I understood it was built by a small team, but not this time. The game crashed my relatively top end machine more than all other games I've played in the past year put together, often to the point of requiring a complete re-boot. Worse, the save game issue came back and corrupted my save completely even with the Epic cloud backup and a backup save file, meaning after 10 hours in I had to start the game again... When you have this many bugs you should make it easy to save multiple versions of your save manually (by selecting save slots).
