Tales of the Abyss

Tales of the Abyss holds up surprisingly well on the 3DS, despite being a relatively conservative port of the original. And with the 3DS's small selection of RPGs, it's a must have, and a great entry point in the Tales series.

While the story and characters are somewhat lacking, Tales of the Abyss stands tall due to its superb battle system. [June 2012]

The 3DS doesn't yet offer much choice for those who favour lengthy adventures over quick-fix pick-up-and-play games. However, if you are such a person, Tales of the Abyss should quench your thirst.

Tales of the Abyss is a classic JRPG tha fans of the genre will like, despite some techical and gameplay issues.

A broad comprehensive battle system makes each fight worthwhile, if a bit repetitive. The story is told at the right pace and will keep you interested throughout the entirety of the game. But the experience isn't entirely perfect, with some odd sound issues, a knack for getting you lost, and 3D visuals that should never be used.

A bad port, but still a great J-RPG. It has worse graphics than the PS2 version and 3D effect is not brilliant, but its unique gameplay and huge length will attract "Tales of" fans that couldn't play the original game.

From its soulless and utterly unendearing cast of characters to its needless backtracking and convulted story, Tales of the Abyss has very little to offer even die-hard JRPG enthusiasts.

I loved this game. At first Luke was really annoying but towards the end he became one of my favorite characters along with Tear and Jade. His relation to Ashe (which I will not spoil) is perfectly executed. The plot is very deep and the world is very interesting and unique. The combat is good but I really enjoyed the story and characters. The Six-God General were all great characters and how the Score (prophases written telling the entire future) plays out was very interesting. The music was also very good my favorite song being Meaning of Birth. The 3D aspect isn't that good but I really only turn the 3D on during cutscenes so I didn't mind

This Tales game is very much alike the others which is a good thing. The story is complex with numerous twists during the adventure and should keep you hooked for hours upon hours. This is not the best Tales released but it does many things right. The battle system takes what Symphonia had right for a new installment. I'm giving it a 7 because the game often feels unpolished, at least not in the sense Symphonia and Vesperia had. Still a proper tales installment.

I tried to like this more and for a while I did. But for some reason I found myself not caring for the story or characters enough to carry on. It's a good game but you'll need to be a bit more patient than I was with it.

The combat is the same of other "Tales of" games, being a positive point of the game. The plot although good, has terrible pacing making the game drag for a long time. The protagonist is the worst part of the game being boring and irritating. I've almost given up playing it instantly but I had just too much free time so I forced myself to finish it.

I really didn't enjoy this game right from the start. I think I gave it a pretty good chance, investing a few days and many hours devoted towards getting a good feel for the story, characters, and design. I thought Tales of Symphonia was decent on GC, but this felt even older, slower, and terribly more uninspired then that. I was so uninterested in playing this after the first week that I had to return it, willing to take anything in it's place. Maybe you'll like it more if you are a big fan of the series and feel the need to play or own it as a part of the series. Unfortunately this title was so bad to me that I'll be staying away from the series from now on. Really disappointing to say the least.
