Super Video Golf isn’t a AAA title, in fact from what I understand it’s made by just one guy, so you probably shouldn’t expect it to have too much depth. However this also means that there’s none of the microtransaction nonsense which is so common in today’s big titles. Single player is focussed around the ‘career’ mode, though you can go into free play at any time and try for a high score on the online leaderboards on any of the courses. Career mode games are a series of leagues (6 in total) where in each league you play 6 rounds of golf against 15 other CPU players. You don’t see the other players, just their scores on the scoreboard as you progress. It starts off quite easy, but the CPU players can be frustratingly good sometimes - although often in a way which makes you want to play again for a better score, rather than just quitting. I do wish though that you could replay a single round at any time, instead of having to play all 6 rounds before you can repeat the whole league. On the plus side the game does remember exactly where you were if you quit mid-round so the career is great for playing on the Steam Deck when you have a bit of down time to spare. Multiplayer is played via free play mode, and can be played either locally, sharing a controller with your buddies (although you can plug in up to 4 controllers) or you can play online. I prefer playing locally, sharing a controller (and maybe a pizza and a beer or two) as a game with 4 players can take an hour or more to complete - and you can have up to 8 players! Just like real golf I guess. When you’re all in the same room with a big TV it can be quite a social event. Playing online works fine, but because of the long wait times you’ll probably find yourself watching 3 or 4 strangers taking their turns most of the time. There is in-game chat, but it just isn’t the same. There are plenty of game modes too, like elimination, nearest the pin and multitarget which all add a twist on gameplay. On top of that there are monthly challenges which pop up, but I’ve not really looked into that. There’s also some mini-games in the ‘clubhouse’, but again I’ve not really played them - I’m here for the golf. Rebinding keys also works just fine. It’s in the options menu on the controller tab - just click on a key and it lets you change it.

There's no way to rebind the keyboard keys. This is unacceptable in this time and age. Try again. And next time don't forget how to make a proper interface.
