Steredenn´s greatest triumph is how it blends modern and old costumes. Roguelike and extremely classic shoot em up embrace successfully in a dream come true for many retro gamers: an old arcade game that´s new each time you play it.

The game has a decent amount of modes that ultimately all work together in helping the player learn and progress through the game. So if you’ve been itching for a cheap shoot’em up game on the handheld-console hybrid, maybe do yourself a favor and check out this one.

Binary Stars is not only a shmup, it’s also takes cues from roguelikes like randomly generated levels and permadeath. I may never finish it, but even so, Steredenn: Binary Stars is worth playing, and I will happily play it over and over again.

I love shmups but I hate roguelites. They spell poor game design to me, dev lazyness, repeat and repeat mindlessly untill you get through. Nothing to get attached too, no A to Z carefully crafted world and design. Never knowing what you will get and therefore often unfair. My gamelist is 80% shmups, so I tried Steredenn, but quickly regreted the purchase. So repetitive, no enemy or pattern stands out from the others, nothing is kept from your previouse sessions, start over from scratch, good luck... So why still 6 ? The soundtrack rocks.

Accessibility fail. Color-blind need not apply. That's like 10% of the male population, man! This game requires you quickly differentiate between red, orange and purple — one of the worst possible color combinations they could have chosen for the common red-green color-blindness. They should went with white, yellow and purple or something along those lines.

A fantastic release that does a great job of providing an experience that feels simultaneously classic and modern. It’s high difficulty, rewarding gameplay, endless variety, and beautiful presentation make this an essential buy for any fans of the genre, and a high recommendation for those who aren’t. If you’re looking for a tightly made arcade game that can be played both in short bursts and for hours on end, look no further than this.

It’s a beautiful, well-crafted, and addicting 2D shooter that offers so many possible ship, weapon and upgrade combinations that you could have hours of fun just endeavoring to discover them all.

Nothing bad to say about this excellently made game.kind wish the difficulty was 5% less - I made to final boss, but damn. Really you need the right set up, and I am working on that. Excellent, excellent horizontal shooter. edit: This game is on of the best shooters of this generation. no question. it took me around 40 hours of gameplay to finally defeat the Mothership. then the game loops on a harder setting, and that is a good challenge. I initially said should be 5% easier. that was wrong. difficulty setting is masterfully calibrated. Once you get past Mothership once, you will then start getting past more regular. Then it is case of chasing higher scores for better placement in the global score rankings. Prob one of my top 15 games of all time.

An outstanding and addictive shmup, Switch reintroduced me to the genre after years away from the arcades of my youth, and this game has secured its place as my absolute favorite game in the genre. Multiple ships to unlock, crazy bosses and some incredible weapons to let loose! Whether you’re a longtime shmup fan or someone looking to dive in, I can not recommend Steredenn enough.

Surprisingly, thanks to, and not in spite of, its roguelike elements, Steredenn: Binary Stars takes what would otherwise be a decent shoot 'em up and turns it into a highly addictive frenzy where each run is heavily affected by whatever weapons are found along the way. Steredenn is a wonderful shoot 'em up with plenty of replay value to go around.

Steredenn is the surprising perfect type of game for the Nintendo Switch. Amazing shmup with very fast runs. Recommended.

Steredenn Binary Stars might look like a generic shoot-’em-up on the surface, but it offers quite a bit to be excited about. I found the wonderful selection of weapons and multiphase bosses an absolute delight despite the relentless difficulty. While the all or nothing nature will be more than enough to turn some people off, for those who welcome it will without a doubt find themselves proclaiming, just one more run.

It has a kickass soundtrack and is quite difficult initially but has you quickly coming back for more. It blends in the roguelike and shmup genres together with a memorable pixel art aesthetic.

Brilliant. I can barely fault this game, other than it's seriously hard - but that's part of why it's great. Such a great selection of weapons, and great fun as a result. Always a surprisingly fun game. Great music too. Currently up there with graceful explosion machine as the best shmup on the Switch. Upping to a 10 after repeated plays. It's still very hard though. Some of the scores in the worldwide leaderboard I have no idea how they achieved them.

It's pretty fun, but if you are not going to sink +100 hours into it, it's probably not worth your time. It's SUPER difficult and unless you are SUPER committed to being a Steredenn pro, you will play for an evening an never pick it up again. I'm pretty bummed it's not sticking.

First of all -> This Game is IMHO extremely HARD !! The graphics are pixelicious and also the sound is as good. This game COULD possibly be an all-time favourite of me like "Gungeon" (which is also hard). But Steredenn is a SHMUP which I don't even understand how to beat. Sometimes the enemy shoots so many bullets, in such big patterns, that there is no way out. When I look the Leaderboard then I assume that I got old, but again Steredenn is IMHO the most difficult Shooter I ever played. And this is also the reason for my score....sadly, 'cause with a possibility to choose the difficulty maybe I would like this Game.

SummarySteredenn: Binary Stars is the expanded version of Steredenn. Enjoy infinite replayability and unforgiving gameplay through intense boss fights, (almost) randomly generated environments, twisted space events and a massive arsenal of weapons.
