Wasn't sure about this, but solid shooter, with high production values. Only really bought it because i liked GunLord X so much, and NG Dev are definitely a great studio. Music is amazing, and the challenge very well calibrated. getting 1CC clear on 'normal' difficulty is a solid but fair challenge. Highly recommended for horizontal shooter fans

Shadow Man: Remastered10
Apr 3, 2022
I would say Shadow Man is a forgotten masterpiece, but obviously there is still some love for the game given this remaster and effort. This game is the spiritual brother of Soul Reaver, and carries a lot of the feel and spirit of that game and that period of game development. Shadow Man is kind of like a massive 3D metroidvania. The map is pretty huge for a game from that period, and the main challenge is in navigating, visiting and revisiting the areas. Extremely captivating game that will possibly be lost on a younger generation of gamers. They dont make them like this anymore. 10/10

absolute masterpiece. Plays well on Switch, but i recommend getting a better pair of joycons for handheld - not the standard Nintendo ones.

Yeah, wasn't expecting to much from this to be honest. After the dismal Paratopia that came from the same 'Haunted PS1 Demo' group, i was a bit deflated. But this is an blinder of a title. From the PS1 Demos i have played, this comes closest to the feel of a PS1 title, and the graphics, unlike the faking it Paratopia, are basically PS1 like totally. Apart from that, it is is just a well built, evocative and captivating game. The point of this is to explore as many endings as you can, and there are 10 in total. Even getting all 10 will take less than 10 hours, but it is one of my more memorable titles as of late. Highly recommend.

Quake Remastered10
Aug 23, 2021
About time Quake started to get some attention. A far superior classic FPS to Doom, but Doom **** all the oxygen out the room. Quake 1 and 2 are masterpieces, no question. Quake 1 is more barebones, but still solid as hell, with good difficulty curve (it gets pretty tough). There is so much content for the money, and even the option to download 'add-ons' like the full N64 version of Quake. Really a no brainer to buy this and value for money is crazy good. well done on this flawless Switch port.

Really excellent game. Game that i put down swearing never to play again, only to clock up multiple hours and end up loving and appreciating this game. A lot of craft and love went into making this. I only wish stage 2 which is a shooter/SHMUP style level, that there there were more levels like this. The studio could make a sick shooter just in this style. Highly recommended, great shooter for the Switch.

I had medium expectations for this game, but it is actually extremely good. Once you get used to the slightly odd feel of combat and movement and some other things - this is an extremely well made 3D metroidvania/Zeldaish/gothic game, with a very interesting world. My only gripe is with some of the void challenges, where a checkpoint would be welcome. Not because i complain about difficulty, but having to go through the easier portions of a challenge to die at the very tough sections over and over, becomes somewhat tedious. Other than that an excellent game.

I am playing this in 2019. The reviews on this game were far too harsh. I had low expectations but this is an extremely worthwhile FPS on the PSP (a device that was very short on FPS). The controls are sound and intuitive, the story is limited but engaging, and the game play is solid. The environments do get a touch repetitive, but it has a very good difficulty level and does not hold your hand. It gets to a point where you have to be strategic with ammo and cannot just liberally blast your way through. The AI is admittedly not brilliant, but this hardly detracts from the game. Anyone revisiting or looking for quality PSP titles (especially FPS), will not go wrong with this. It is a fun and engaging game. Overall highly recommended and significantly underrated.

I feel like it is important to state from the outset, that although this game has received positive reviews overall, there is a kind of error in the assessment. The general thrust of the reviews is that this is a good Metroidvania, but that it fails to bring 'anything new' to the genre - and as such does not arrant a very high review score. This is not correct, and in my opinion, there is something new and fresh feeling in this excellent game. of course, as a Metroidvania, there is something formulaic - but the presentation and delivery of this title does not feel imitative or repetitive. For an indie title with a very small team, this game (the map) is also pretty massive, and it takes way longer to clear than the typical indy Metroidvania does (length wise, it took me a bit longer to complete this than it took to complete Ritual of the Night (35 hours approx), and i have complete Momodora: RutM (a great game) 4 times on all settings and that has clocked less time than 1 Cathedral playthrough). Reading some professional reviews, you can tell they did not actually play through the whole game because some give a completion time of 15-20 hours. I suppose they just extrapolated from the typical lengthier Metroidvania, but there is no way someone is doing a 15-20 hour clear on first playthrough unless they are sitting with a playthrough and boss guide, and racing through the game like that. Average competent gamer is looking at a 32-38 completion time. There are good 100% challenges there for those who like 100%ing a game - which, without a guide, i can see taking 40-45 hours. One worry for this type of game though, is that it is easy to overlook such a title because of the influx of 8-bit style platform type scrolling games that start to look similar. DO NOT miss this title because it looks like just another 8-bit indy game. If you enjoy Metroidvanias (and hard ones at that), then i cannot imagine you would dislike this game or find it average. It is extremely challenging at times, even to the point of extreme frustration, but not to the point that it is insanely impossible or anything. The items that are acquired are interesting and feel satisfactory when found. Of course the obligatory double jump and dash items are there, but with the other more unique items, they really make for challenging and fun platforming sections and puzzle solving. The chiptune music is excellent, and so is the map design in general. I really, really recommend this for someone looking for a new, lengthy Metroidvania, that overall feels fresh and a bit new. You probably wont find a better value for money Metroidvania on the market given the length. No way in this world this game deserves a 6/10. It is full of charm and made with heart, passion, intelligence and dedication. For me this game is a 10/10.

An underrated gem of a shooter. short overall in terms of completion, but that is not the point. I am 50 hours in to this working now on insane mode completion. Extremely well crafted vertical scroll shooter (mech shooter). The goal for anyone on this who wants to give it a good go is a clearance on hard mode. There are no continues in this shooter. Once lives are gone that is it. A great challenge. 10/10 no question.

Nothing bad to say about this excellently made game.kind wish the difficulty was 5% less - I made to final boss, but damn. Really you need the right set up, and I am working on that. Excellent, excellent horizontal shooter. edit: This game is on of the best shooters of this generation. no question. it took me around 40 hours of gameplay to finally defeat the Mothership. then the game loops on a harder setting, and that is a good challenge. I initially said should be 5% easier. that was wrong. difficulty setting is masterfully calibrated. Once you get past Mothership once, you will then start getting past more regular. Then it is case of chasing higher scores for better placement in the global score rankings. Prob one of my top 15 games of all time.

Really nice shooter actually. Ideal for anyone new to the SHMUP genre. works well with the vertical overhead layout. It is a pain having to attach the flip grip to use Tate mode on most overhead shooters, and this is a nice easy pick up. Hard mode is a good challenge, and there are additional challenges and modes. For newcomers easy is a breeze, and normal isn't too much of a challenge. There is nightmare mode for hardcore. recommended

I want to give this a better review. it is cheap and quite a nice shooter (considering it is practically for free). But on the Switch version, the slow down is unbearable. When you get to the Asteroid Station the game literally slows down to 1FPS. It is unplayable from that point. This needs to be worked on and patched or something.

Nice little shooter, although my main complaint is it is too easy. If you are new to shooters or don't like higher difficulty levels, this is a nice intro to the genre. I understand one guy programmed this, so don't expect anything too advanced. Still, the 15 story mode missions can be complete in around 2 hours, and it is a nice little indy shooter.

Creature in the Well10
Oct 10, 2020
I have seen some people say this game is boring, or whatever. Well, each to their own, but this game is excellent. I thought to myself what do i want to say just now, and this game instantly to my mind: Creature in the Well is a really, really, really good game that is honestly made with real heart. The art style is excellent, and although the environment is not expansive, it is captivating. It does get a bit tough, and there are difficulty spikes, but it is not crazy difficult or grindy by any means. Feels like a fair challenge. Highly recommend.

At the time this got good reviews. 62 is way to low for this forgotten masterpiece ****. There is something special about this game, aided with the Rik Mayall voice acting. One of the PS1 greats. The single player is excellent and a great campaign that gets tough from a point. This is a 10/10 no question.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour10
Aug 27, 2020
I was skeptical because i generally dont like graphically updated games, but they have done a great job of making the graphics a bit cleaner, without feeling like something is lost. This is good old Duke Nukem. Gameplay is fluid as hell, and i only played handheld. Such a masterpiece, and done great justice by this port. Only would have liked the underrated Duke Nukem Advance levels on here. But still, a ton of content for the price. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night9

The review score is driven down on Switch because of initial bugs. From my play through most of these bugs are fixed, and the biggest 'issue' is the longer loading times, which slightly interrupt gameplay. But this game is solid, and playing this through on handheld mode was a great experience. I actually didn't get into it right away, but after 2 hours in, i was hooked. Impressive scope throughout the whole game, and a real effort was made here. I liked the slightly openworldish feel, but that is natural to metroidvanias, when you have to re-explore environment. Good difficulty setting on normal. Not too easy. I presume hard mode is tough.

There is really nothing bad to say about this game. I say 'game' but really it is an incredible catalogue and portfolio of tables. Some, like the free 'Sorcerers Lair' and the purchasable Aliens package, are insanely good. I dont even play anything else on my Switch at this point, and the online tournaments are great and still running. Simply one one of the best things you can get on Switch. The added benefit of Switch version is vertical (tate) mode, which makes it 10/10.

I bought this when first released on Switch, and there a couple of things, like the random wind switches and quick corruption of hunters that bothered me a bit. Still though it was a great game with great potential, but didn't play it much because i got into something else. One day i seen patch 0.6 was in and i updated gamed. In going back i can see alot of issues have been ironed out. This game is extremely good. It has something that sets it apart as an RPG. For one the story is extremely well developed, and after Japanese RPG fatigue, it is very refreshing to get something like this. The game gets pretty difficult and there gets a point where you must develop careful strategy to progress. You cannot just blaze through it. The graphical style is refreshing and different. It has a certain aura and quality that gives a certain vibe. Somehow the story resonates with our own times, and i think this is what makes it interesting. Couple things i would still like to see 'improved', but considering this is an indie development this games deserves a solid 10/10.

Generally not a huge of fan of bullet hell shooter style games, but i am pretty impressed with this. Very effective minimalist graphics that is clean with a good feel considering the limited aesthetic. For the price a no-brainer for anyone who feels like a quick pick up and play twin stick shooter with a challenge.

This was the second game by JoyMasher that i played, the first being Oniken. I enjoyed Oniken but wouldn't call it a mini masterpiece. This game i would certainly call a mini masterpiece. Generally well received but still vastly under appreciated in my opinion. Better than any 2D Castlevania game released in the last 15 years easily. A true metroidvania concept, with a good amount of game play in it. The aesthetic is gorgeous, and the overall map and gameplay mechanic totally solid. Glad i picked this despite my relatively lowish expectations.

Well, i was a bit sceptical about this. the reviews were a bit all over the place and having a bit of metroidvania fatigue i went into this reluctantly. Pleased i did. One of the best Metroidvanias i played this gen, and perhaps ever (and not ridiculously shot). it is a truly beautiful game, with a true metroidvania concept (a map that expands and becomes more accessible with upgrades/new items. quite haunting, great aesthetic, good difficulty level (on normal). cannot recommend this game highly enough.

Dead Dungeon9

The type of platformer where the level is all contained on the screen, and the levels can be completed in a matter of seconds (in principle). The mechanic is deceptively simple (just jump and movement), but there is a surprising level of depth and ingenuity in these levels as they progress. From some point the levels become hard. Yes, you will die and respawn countless times. The respawn is very quick, so it is one of those quick paced games. A challenging platformer, with a good amount of content. it was one of those games i was not expecting much from, but it had me hooked over several nights (until hand fatigue kicked in), and trying to beat records on the leader board is highly addictive. A solid little platformer for people who like a challenge.

Anyone giving this is a 0, 1 or 2 is a shameless troll. This is a supremely well crafted kart racer that ports well to the Switch. Best played with the pro controller. Only downsides are loading times, but it is so minor, i am not even taking a point of for that. Excellent presentation, with tons of content and infinite amount of game-play (making it extremely good value for money, especially if you pick it up discounted). Worth every penny

Oniken: Unstoppable Edition9
Jan 1, 2020
Aesthetically and in terms of presentation and craft, this is a 10. Yes, it is pretty tough, but that is what your would expect from an game that sets out as a tribute and model of contra 8 bit style gaming. It is a game in its own right. It doesn't feel excessively imitative or derivative, even if it is based upon a bygone gaming paradigm. Boss fights are challenging and it is not for casual gamers. The game is addictive and draws you back in for more. Beating a level is tremendously satisfying. The main draw back are some control issues. But ironically, in this way it feels more authentic as an 8bit style game. They are not bad by any means, but could be slightly more polished. Still, a solid game that is usually inexpensive as a download.
