Overlord DLC turned out to be very fascinating. It changes and complements some of the basics of Stellaris and allows you to take a different look at the usual formula of space empire' development.

For me this the first expansion that I don't like because all it does is take a working, reasonable mechanic and unjustly complicate it without delivering any significant benefit. So a lot of work is required and little fun is achieved. The relays feel like a poor man's alternative to the existing gate mega structure. The catapult is nice and a good idea.

Paradox has made a pro-player choice in divvying up the paid vs free new content, making Overlord feel like a less essential purchase than it otherwise could. While most of the big structural changes are available to everyone, this DLC still offers some exciting and varied new additions to the richest and most entertaining sci-fi strategy on the galactic market.
