Shovel Knight Dig isn’t just a cash-in on the series’ popularity. It’s a game that stands on its own merits as a worthy prequel to the original. The titular hero’s moveset translates perfectly to a more vertical orientation, and Nitrome’s bite-sized level design makes full use of Yacht Club’s well-established gameplay style. The 16-bit-style visuals and music are an absolute treat, especially for fans of the series, and the roguelike elements present a nice sense of progression and replayability. Shovel Knight Dig might not be the exact sequel that fans have been clamoring for, but it’s the next best thing.

It's an outstanding side-scrolling game I can't explain much more in detail about how great it is and why it is soo good, it's a fresh new take on the series that makes the game a step in the right direction for more installments.

A fresh new take in the Shovel Knight adventures which successfully embraces the roguelike trend and wraps it in wonderful pixelart.

This is a great spin-off that knows how to adapt Shovel Knight’s gameplay to a roguelite structure.

While not packed with content, Shovel Knight Dig is rich in quality. Charming pixel artwork combined with excellent level chunks and tight gameplay make it well worth the hours spent.

Shovel Knight Dig remixes the popular indie platformer into a clever roguelike that’s an entertaining—if somewhat diminished—Shovel Knight experience.

For me Shovel Knight Dig is the blandest of all games starring the blue knight. It does everything decently as a 2D roguelike platformer but fails to impress in any way and I would only recommend it to those fans of Shovel Knight who have already played all previous entries to the franchise.

Good- The core Shovel Knight gameplay has aged like fine wine; The updated look manages to maintain Shovel Knight’s aesthetics without going overboard; Simple progression and story mean more time to actually play the game. Bad- Music can get repetitive; Randomly-generated levels mean less overall challenge. Thoughts- Ultimately, however, Shovel Knight Dig manages to pull off just about everything it was going for. The new roguelite gameplay loop works quite well with the protagonist’s limited-but-adaptable move set, and the game does as much as it can to engender the “one more run” mindset. It doesn’t bog you down with an overly-complex story or complicated progression systems. All it really wants you to do is dig downwards, and have fun doing it.

Good game with a bit more replayability than the OG, but that means it's not curated and a bit less fun.

The game's a pile of balls. Loses all the balancing from other Rogue Likes by having: Infinitely spawning enemies.
The most sluggish combat (1:1 with OG shovel knight. But OG Shovel Knight worked with the combat).
An instakill drill which spawns when you sit in an area for a minute, meaning you can't plot your route or attack plan. A constant feeling that this should have been a regular platformer. It gets a 4 as it's music is amazing. But overall avoid it. Play Dead Cells instead if you want a decent Rogue Like.

Good- The core Shovel Knight gameplay has aged like a fine fecal matter; The updated look manages to maintain shovel knights boring retro aesthetics while also going overboard; Simple minded progression mean big idiot like a whole lot. Bad- Music can get repetitive, because it ****; Randomly-generated levels means the level design **** too. Thoughts- Ultimate cheeseburger, however, Shovel Knight Dig manages to pull off just about everything that's terrible with modern games, but I'm an idiot so I love it.

bad game, it's a disgrace to the original shovel knight, how they managed to destroy the core of the OG game is beyond my comprehension.
