Shadows of Doubt is a unique detective sim in its use of procedural generation to guarantee that no two playthroughs are alike. It is not perfect, but overall it is one of the most well-crafted experiences that anyone, even detective game veterans, should play.

Shadows of Doubt is not an investigative experience I would recommend to everyone. Still, if you love gritty, procedural, and remarkably free games in their approach, you can't miss it.

How much potential is there in Shadows of Doubt’s ideas, its noir setting, and the special way it lets us experience firsthand every aspect of an investigator’s daily life? Too bad for the bugs, for sandbox cases that are less convincing than scripted ones, and for a sensational concept that isn’t fully exploited.

Shadows of Doubt is without a doubt one of, if not the best in it's genre. The game introduces a deep investigation system, procedural city and npc generation and more while running surprisingly well for it's scale. If you ever feel like immersing yourself in a noir world and solving crimes like a true detective, this is the game for you. Although the game is entirely procedural, the cases can get repetitive or even too simple after you understand how things work because you already know where to look for clues. Overall, Shadows of Doubt offers an immersive and suprising investigative experience, it's a must-have to all lovers of the genre.
6
Unique game but it's more of a prototype, it's unfinished in this state which is understandable considering the scope of the game.

Shadows of Doubt is a detective, imersive sim game that contains great atmosphere with great environmental sounds, it has very attractive detective board with buttons and threads, it is a really systemic game, in this game you have freedom in choice of how you are going to solve cases, this game generates worlds and cases and I am sure that this generative thing took hundreds of hours to program and make sure it works correctly. But anyway, at the end of the day it is a bad game. Let me explain why.Firstly, I believe that the problem in this game is the fact that developers forced worlds and cases generation in it. If you add it to a game then it is going to be a sandbox game. What are the most important part of sandbox games? It is exploration, take a look at the most successful sandbox games: Minecraft, No man sky, ARK, Forest, Terraria, what do they have in common? They all have a lot to explore and gameplay is not repetitive. On the other hand SoD (Shadows of Doubt) is really repetitive, after the first case I did not want to continue solving cases, the only thing that I wanted to do is to check/explore different spots and places in it, I tried to do it and it was not at all fun because everthing is the same, repetitive and game did not want you to explore it in this way, but sandbox games are really about exploring the world in this ****, sandbox games are different from others not only in exploration, but also in possibility to build something. SoD does not have it, someone might say that there is a mechanic of decorating you apartment, but it is not the same. That is why I believe that the central problem of this detective game is the fact that developers decided to make it a sandbox game. Secondly, User Interface is a real mess. Sometimes one part of it is upon another, like an arrow that guides you, it is located underneath another part of UI. Another issue is that sometimes UI is that big that you can not see what item you are looking at, when I want to take up a key, a lot of UI parts get upon it and I do not see this key at all. Another issue is bugs, there are a lot of bugs in UI, it make player's experience even worse.Thirdly, let's try to go beyond the sandbox game and look for things that are appreciated in non sandbox games. Plot/Story, there is no main plot/story. Characters, you do not get to know them and you are not interested to know them. In the end we have a game that has repetitive, not interesting gameplay, not interesting and not in any way attractive story and characters and not good sandbox game **** far as I am concerned, developers could tear apart generation mechanic and create linear narrative game with interesting characters, engaging story and sometimes appearing hard choices and this would be a great **** case they wanted to create sandbox game they should choose another genre for such a game. P.S. I really believe that this game is very overrated

Shadows of Doubt is an incredible and must-play detective simulation game. Thanks to its procedurally generated world, you never know what to expect. Moreover, a vibrant but grim atmosphere hangs in the air like a bad smell. Can you solve every crime you encounter? Search for the clues, piece together the evidence, and point the finger! This is one indie title that you cannot afford to miss. [Early Access Score = 85]

Games up my ally which is tons of freedom besides the main quests which can be repetitive but exploring causing my own Mayhem on the side is what got me into playing this game in the first place lol

When you engage with it on a deeper level Shadows of Doubt really sings, and that wouldn’t be possible if they sacrificed that complexity just to widen the appeal. It knows exactly the kind of experience it wants to be and doesn’t compromise its ideas to make sure that’s what players get. The result is one of the best mystery games ever made, and I hope they continue to develop these systems even after this 1.0 launch.

Shadows of Doubt is an intricate simulation of a grim corporate world that handles player freedom on a level you rarely see. The fascination wears thin as you delve deeper into the seedy underworld, but the initial intrigue alone is worth the price of entry.

Ingenious, unstable, and uncompromising in pursuit of its goals, Shadows of Doubt truly is the ultimate hard-boiled detective sim.

Shadows of Doubt has the potential to become a highly engaging detective immersive sim, but in order to achieve that, a lot needs to be done about technical flaws and clarity of gameplay mechanics. Right now the game can be summed up as a great concept with awful execution.

For Early Access, this game is ridiculously amazing. This could be the finished game and win game of the year. I am excited to see what more they do to Shadows of Doubt.

The concept and gameplay are great! It can get you invested and is quite addictive at its best. But the cracks start to show after a few hours of cases that this title just needs more time in the oven. The idea of procedurally generated cities and cases makes you think that the possibilities of how things will go are unlimited. But instead, this leads to very repetitive generated cities, cases, and conversations. Once you do a couple of cases, you pretty much only need a couple of names and fingerprints and the case is closed. It's a shame because the game gives you a lot of juicy intel that makes you string up a whole story of cheating, lies and deceit. Reading through emails, looking at what books a suspect owns, why they need certain medications, etc. But then you slowly realize that you're reading too much into it. A lot of those pieces of intel you find are repeated throughout all the cases and have no impact on anything. This really **** the whole detective experience and you feel like you're not expected to think like a real detective. The identity and individuality of the suspect are lost and you feel like you're chasing a lifeless, copied and pasted NPC. With this said, after many cases, the game kinda feels a little ruined with its exploits. It has all these cool ideas of needing to sneak into places, use the air vents and cabinets to hide, and the game measuring your noise levels. But the problem is, the stakes aren't high enough to go through that effort. if anyone finds you, just have a weapon like a katana and you KO them in one hit without any repercussions. These low stakes also allow every case to be solved with no second thoughts using this process: Find anyone you think could be the killer, handcuff them, tell them you're arresting them, and they will either confess or refuse it which they won't lie about. They also carry the murder weapon on them at all times so searching their place for evidence besides to get their fingerprints, is fruitless. All in all, I love the aesthetic, the concept, the gameplay, the survival elements, and the addictive nature. When I'm playing it, I'm glad that I am and want to play more and has the potential to be my go-to detective game. But the crucial centrepiece of this game is the cases and they really need more time to take advantage of the endless possibilities with procedural generation without punishing the player for thinking too realistically. I have really high hopes for this game and look forward to watching it develop and overcome these obstacles.

The game is also plagued with numerous unaddressed bugs, and the performance is abysmal. Despite its simplistic, blocky visuals, it runs far worse than it should. If this is supposed to be a full release, it barely scratches the surface of what it could be. It's a real disappointment. Edited my review from 4/10 to 0 as the developers haven't done anything since 1.0 release. Also, people on this site inflate the score, giving it 10/10 when it doesn't deserve it.
