And as this game is so good and so much fun to talk about, this may be a tad long, so prepare yourself. [JPN Import]
A game that's solid in its foundation, provides a standard rpg tale, and last quite a good length. Yet at the same time it lacks anything to make it distinct, exciting, and something that players should care about. While it is no doubt a technical masterpiece, in the current rpg state of the PS2, where quality rpgs exist in mass, it's tough to recommend Rogue Galaxy. [JPN Import]

The unmistakable refinement of Rogue galaxy makes it a worthy addition to any RPG library. [Feb 2007, p.34]

The designs from the levels to the characters are really nice for being on the PS2. The voice acting is also really good most of the time. I think the fighting and battles are fun in this game compared to other action RPGs that I've tried. This is a definite must-try.

Imagine Pokemon but the areas are entirely made out of infintely recycled corridors and every inch is tall grass... that means all you do is walk 10 meters and have you 7 billionth random encounter where you are spamming attacks for 10-45 seconds. and now imagine doing this almost exclusively for over 50 hours with zero interesting plot, characters or other relevant activites. one of the worst JRPGs i've ever played.

Rogue Galaxy is an excellent example of what an RPG should be. This is easily the best game of 2007 so far.

Among the SF fantasy J RPG games set in space, it is a masterpiece that uses a heroic narrative story well. It shows very nice toonrendering based on PlayStation2. I hope it comes out in Remaster for PS4 or PS5

A game you just have to finish. You’ll love every part of it – the action-filled combat, the dream-driven plot, and every polygon of the gorgeous graphics. It’s not just one element that’ll consume you – it’s the entire package.

Another outstanding title from Level 5 games. If you like RPGs, get this game now.

Gaming Target
Rogue Galaxy fails to live up to its promise as a "Final Fantasy" killer. Sure it's one of the best-looking games to date on the PS2, nearly loading free, and has an awesome voice acting crew, but the story and repetitive battles can occasionally becoming trying at times.

A really solid RPG title for the PS2, and while it doesn’t manage to fill in the top slot for RPG’s on the system, it definitely ranks up there in the top 4 or 5.

The action is unique, the world and characters are well crafted, and the game is generally well made. That said, the action does get a bit repetitive, the story is generic, the dungeons are incredibly dull, and the upgrade system is kind of weird.

Its has good graphics and the worlds are all well designed. I liked that there are different races with different looks. The story is nothing special but not that bad **** battle system is action battle system but it ads nothing towards the progression in the game and the characters are lacking in variety. They all have the same attacks and team attacks with the same effect. All in all its a good rpg but not a highlight on the PS2.

Ohhh booy. The people who made this game did not care about anything other than characters and cutscenes. Gameplay is very mediocre. In some areas, enemies appear higher than your level and it is very frustrating to deal with them. Running away is even more frustrating. There are a lot of mimic chests, they are very powerful in the early game. I died many times. At the end of 4-5 hours, I encountered strong enemies again and I fell into the water, couldn't get out and died. I stopped playing. It's enough for me :D

Let me be very clear. At times this felt like the most insulting video game, that I literally felt physical pain at one point. This game starts off amazing, with literally infinite potential. What you think is slow build up tho... OMG, where do I begin. Eventually turns into the midst incoherent story I've ever seen. I've never seen a game literally create a problem and solve it with a plot hole in the same scene. This game does it like 3x. This is the theme of the game. Even combat. The final dungeon and boys fight are literally gimmicks. None of your work matters bc the final enemies of the game require a gimmick to defeat, whether it be shoot a specific gun, requiring jump attacks only, or some other variant of no damage makes each battle literally want you to just run away. Which is fine. Bc by the time your lvl 40 you can beat this game. And when I say the final dungeons are straight hall way simulators. Look. Only 30% of players have played part chapter 3, bc by then you realize how stupid it is. Me, loving the potential of freaking space pirates, be ruined at every turn in literally the most in your face F you ways I've ever seen in gaming. My lord, I want every second of my life I spent beating this game. I MEAN AT EVERY TURN THIS VIDEO GAME DISAPPOINTED ME! IT'S SO BAD. I just can't bro.
