Ridge Racer DS
The outcome: a lesson in how not to use the touch screen in games. You'll immediately feel like you're in a round of bumper cars as you automatically swerve from side to side. You literally have no control in this manner.

A solid racing game that looks good and sounds fantastic while offering a real challenge!
Some will scoff at the game's seemingly wacky control schemes and twitchy vehicle handling, but those who enjoy arcade racers will likely find something to enjoy here.

How can this game have a lower score than ridge racer 64. ITS THE SAME GAME. But this is handheld so why have it low on this list? Its a cool classic style ridge racer that the fans should play!

Not the best **** clearly needs some more work put into it. The graphics are blocky, collision scripts are mostly likely broken in some way, and the quality of the overall game is not high. Could be better like the 3DS successor Gameplay is rather poor with poor collision detection, bad turning mechanics, and poor AI. The Music is a decent mix of dance music from recent years Presentation is blocky and very disorganized, while the length is rather long... You won't find much to do afterwards though, maybe wireless multiplayer Gameplay: 6/10 Story: N/A Music: 8/10 Presentation: 4.5/10 Length: 7/10 Overall: 6/10

What I don't like is the ugly non-Namco designed interface and screwy button configuration when plaing with the stylus, which makes it literally impossible to play with the manual transmission. [Jan 2005, p.85]

Despite the DS' lack of true analog control the system handles the game with as much grace as it can with D-pad or touch-screen control. And the real trip is its great handling of wireless multiplayer.

The problem I had is that you cannot calibrate your cars' steering wheel to your liking in order to get rid of its large dead spot. [Jan 2005, p.145]

Worth Playing
Collision detection problems and sloppy mechanics plague this otherwise fun title, and multiplayer is really the best aspect of the game.

NintendoWorldReport
Looks and feels a little dated (despite it being "new"), and control and gameplay issues combined make for a sometimes frustrating game.

Gamers Europe
The whole thing screams ‘generic Ridge Racer game X’, with its borrowed tracks, borrowed handling and overall lack of depth.
25
1UP
It fails at presenting a compelling racing game, and more to the point, it fails at presenting a compelling Ridge Racer game, with backward graphics and bollixed controls.
