It may not adhere strictly to canon but Reigns: The Witcher is an endlessly entertaining new way to experience the Geraltoverse. Just don't be surprised when death comes for you again, and again, and again.

Reigns: The Witcher is a solid addition that will appeal to fans of the franchise looking for a little game to play during their downtime. It's fun and surprisingly rich, with interesting combat that is optional depending on the gaming experience you're looking for. It's a pleasure to see the characters from The Witcher in a different context, with a wide variety of narratives to choose from. Apart from a few clumsy moments in terms of overall balance, the game's real flaws lie in its mobile-friendly interface and a lack of ambition in its execution.

Reigns: The Witcher is another solid entry in the series that fans of the signature gameplay of Reigns and The Witcher lore will enjoy. The dark humor and dedication to the lore are a step above the rest, while the addition of “quests” to guide how you interact with the story is wonderful. However, it still feels a little stale.

You probably know already if you fit within the Venn diagram of Reigns fans who also love the world of The Witcher. Outside of the hit-or-miss combat, Nerial hasn’t exactly revolutionised its patented Reigns formula with Reigns: The Witcher, but it also doesn’t really need to. The trademark swipey narrative puzzle gameplay suits The Witcher very well, with its focus on moral choices and dark sense of humour. I had a good amount of fun with Reigns: The Witcher. If you’re a fan of The Witcher or enjoyed the previous Reigns games and want to see a twist on the formula, so might you.

Fans of the Reigns franchise are likely to enjoy this Witcher iteration. It retains the staples of the series while developing elements that successfully blend both worlds. However, if you’re new and looking for a deep, immersive, ‘choose your own adventure’ experience, this isn’t it. While the scenarios are interesting and there are plenty of branching paths, the experience often feels disjointed, as decisions lack real impact. Though the short runs can be addictive, the basic gameplay may ultimately leave you swiping left on this one.
