There is nothing else like this on WiiWare, and the production values are much higher than most other games on the service. Strategy fans should find their fix here – just don't expect as deep an experience as some of the better-known real-time strategy games on PC.

A delightfully light-hearted take on the strategy genre.

Far more than just a quirky and adept multiplayer romp, then, Swords & Soldiers has found a deeply satisfying sweet-spot where chaos and control are almost perfectly balanced, and the result is a game that towers above everything else WiiWare currently has to offer.

Swords and Soldiers (WiiWare, $10) - Brief Review. (B+) For a inexpensive, fun action game in a fun and silly package, look no further. In a game that can oddly be described as a 2D Side Scrolling Real Time Strategy Game - S&S packs in some fun for a low cost. With the three factions you get plenty of gameplay, plus challenge modes and achievements. If you have younguns, they may like the Versus modes, but for me it was a little too clickfesty - but I didn't play much with this mode. Here's the IGN review, check it out. I give it a solid B+. ****/articles/982/982994p1.html

This is one of the best WiiWare games available and one of the best console RTS games ever created. It is simple, yet hard to master. The design is terrfic and offers up a lot of strategy and depth even though it is only 2-D. The 3 factions are very different but also very balanced. The controls are perfect on the Wii system. The graphics are fresh and creative. If you love strategy games, you'll love this game. It is just a fun game that you can pick up and play at any time.

One of Wiiware's strongest pick-up-and-play titles, with a lengthy story mode, added game types, and even achievements, this ten-dollar download is hard to beat.

Swords & Soldiers will certainly make you laugh, but it’s also just as likely to give you a serious hand cramp from the many hours of your time it will commandeer.
86
There’s no online component, which is truly sad, since the gameplay is pitch perfect for quick, online “pwnage.” That said, you’re still getting a whole lot of game for your 1000 Wii Points, and regardless of the lack of competition on Wii, Swords & Soldiers is a great little game that easily stacks up against any other RTS on any system.
80
The style is vibrant and entertaining, and the overall presentation is lighthearted and easy to enjoy, regardless of your familiarity with RTS games coming into this bizarre take on the genre.
80
On its own merits Swords and Soldiers is a highly recommended game, but the idea is further strengthened by the lack of any other product of this kind which bears a similar quality in the service’s catalogue.
80
As with PopCap's best titles, Swords and Soldiers reworks the weary conventions of its tradition to compelling effect. Its deliberately restricted perspective is unlikely to sate the appetites of hardcore RTS fans, but the move to 2D acts as a concentration of the genre's charms, not a dilution, and is perfectly suited to WiiWare.
70
One of the best looking WiiWare games is also one of the most accessible real-time strategies ever.
