Minority Report: Everybody Runs

Its boring, unimaginative combat lays shame to the fact that Philip K. Dick (whose short story the movie is based on) came up with a pretty original idea to write about.
Falls into line behind countless other film conversions, boasting low production values, an obviously rushed release and highly conventional gameplay that struggles with the controls.
What made Treyarch’s "Spider-Man" engine so special was its versatility. In MR, most of the versatility was taken away by simply focusing on the fighting aspect, giving the game a repetitive feel to it throughout its 40 levels.

A movie licence game with some heart. [In design, not so much story or anything] Combat has heft to it, you can feel the force of a low spin kick taking the legs out from a few unlucky enemies in front of you, the satisfaction of sending an unlucky grapple victim off a ledge, into a cubicle, a glass wall or window with the specialized ragdoll physics. The physics feels unique to the game, and elevate what would otherwise be a cheap movie licence game, being somewhat janky and awkward as it is. The gunplay is lackluster, making guns feel more like a tool for particular situations, or to deal with bosses, almost all lacking any feel. Noticable standouts are the grenade launcher and concussion gun, the former a satisfying high damage FU response to a solid grouping of enemies, or for an annoying boss, and the latter being a Minority Report iconic weapon, that at close range will send enemies hilariously flying away, with a satisfying but frame dropping blur effect. Frame drops are a common occurrence during combat, and in my experience, you get used to it; it unfortunately permeates the the feel of the game. The game is trying to do a lot at once, with the ragdoll and interactive [combat wise] environment. To wrap up: Level design is so so with a few exceptions; A particular mission is a heaven for throwing enemies through glass walls and off ledges, and another one is an obligatory sewer level, which utilizes the jetpack as best as possible, to either interesting or frustrating effect. The story is forgettable, the only highlights being the world itself. Following the movie beats for the most part, with some exception in locations and situations. The upgrade/weapon buying system is tied to cash found through the level, which to exploration minded players will be satisfying, and to everyone else, will be frustrating. On closing: There are a number of cheats that are interesting, but the one I highly recommend is the slow time cheat: It works well,is tied to a button on activation for free use by the player, and really makes the ragdoll physics spectacular to view.

One of my friends only had one game for, what i seems, a long long time: this one. Watching him play this game is one of my core memories as a child. Good old days.

It's even cool, but it's very repetitive, the FPS drops all the time, and the game is too simple. The coolest thing is the physics but lacks more interaction with the scenery

There is much less blood and gore in this game than is usually seen in games of this nature and those looking for a game with a story line with not all of the killing will find this game a welcome change.

Everybody runs. In the case of the lackluster 3D-adventure-cum-beat-em-up Minority Report, rest assured, they're not running to the videogame store. [Feb 2003, p.71]

B level classic. The ragdoll physics alone offer hours of fun. Also being able to throw ppl through and off of literally anything in a level in a big plus. Sure the camera's wonky and the plot is terrible, but man this game is fun. Especially with cheats.

Repetitive above all else, the majority of the stages play out almost identically: kick butt, run away, kick butt again, run away again, repeat, and so on. [Jan 2003, p.30]

Too bad those psychics couldn't have predicted how lame this franchise would turn out, they might have been able to stop it long before production started.

I saw it quickly deteriorate into yet another cash cow trying to capitalize on a Hollywood hit.

This terribly trite gameplay would be fine if the title of this software release was called, for example, "Go Dai: Elements of Power," but it isn't.

For starters, it's boring...You generally just button mash as quickly as possible and hope that the cops fall down before you do.

I didn't get very far into this game I only played far enough to determine whether the game is as bad as the ratings suggest. In all honesty a lot of the problems of this game will be that of the player. That said there are some problems with the game quality. Let's start with the game **** a rainy day I could finish this and probably have a good time. This is neither a brawler or a shooter. It requires you to run in some areas and fight it n others. There are quite a few brawler moves and if you are a patient gamer and learn the moves, especially how to sweep kick your opponents to the floor or grab them and throw them then you can quickly run away or dispatch enemies. Guns and toy ammo is not plentiful in this game you are expected to employ both strategies wisely and that's where I think gamers are failing to appreciate this game. It actually is quite fun. On top of that there are hidden upgrades/secrets to try to get to so you have less difficulty and obviously you have to earn these by getting to them. So, I disagree the game is as broken as many claim. The reason I put the game down so early is actually related to quality. Weird camera angles, hissing audio sound during cut scenes (with headphones really noticeable) and I don't enjoy any music while I play and the options do not allow it to be totally off. What I said about the use of both strategies, brawling and shooting with discretion also does not apply in some areas and ruins the game as well. The game challenges you to make sure you know both and these areas were very repetitive and frustrating. I think the design was to waste up your ammo to reset the games challenge as you play forcing you to find all the secrets and buying back stuff. This is also where the game lost me I felt I didn't really want to jump thru those hoops. As I mentioned on a rainy day I might be willing to play this out and that's my recommendation on this game. Make sure you are in the right mood to play this game only as it was designed or you will not enjoy it.

Lacking in atmosphere and imagination, this game pales in comparison to the brilliant film it bases itself off. With a broken economy, gadgets and weapons that simply don't work the way they should, dull sequences that feel like they go on forever, this game is a real disappointment and I salute anyone who is actually able to go on and finish it.

SummaryBased on Spielberg's futuristic thriller, Minority Report is the only game that lets you relive the movie experience, immersing you in a sci-fi action/adventure with weapons and devices straight out of the movie. Set in the near-future 2054, you are pre-crime officer John Anderton - head of an elite police squad able to predict and appre... Read More
