Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

In brief, it’s great that THQ Nordic revitalized this classic. I appreciate the presentation boosts, and the under the hood changes to leveling and difficulty. I would have liked to have seen shorter load times and a revised inventory management system so that players can more easily avoid spending so much time in their inventory, but these are things that could very well be addressed with patching. Those two gripes aside, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is an awesome game and a wonderful experience to sink into.

Looks like Warcraft, plays like Fable, Amalur brings nothing new to the table. An RPG-lite, if you will, there’s enough for casual players to have fun with, as well as hardcore players to sink time into.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning’s world holds so much promise that it was heart-wrenching when the franchise went dormant, but with this new lease on life, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t be long before we get a full-blown sequel. Until then, I shall continue exploring the world of Amalur as Barnaby, the dashing rogue.

Reasons for playing, then? Nostalgia. Appeasing all those ‘best RPGs you’ve never played’ listicles. And as a reminder of why character– new ideas and memorable places – is so important to a grand adventure. [Issue#181, p.86]

Hopefully, this is just THQ Nordic's first step with the new IP, and that could perhaps be the biggest selling point for the game. Back in the day, there were big plans for an MMO set in Kingdoms of Amalur's world, while potential sequels were brought up in fan discussions from time to time. While it may not be perfect, Re-Reckoning would be a great way to finally lead that charge and realize the grand vision that 38 Studios once held.

The best parts of Amalur are still intact, but with the caveats of the visual bugs, outdated look, and endless sprinting, you’ll need to keep those rose-colored glasses on for the entire playthrough.

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is a poor attempt at a quick money grab by the developers. We’ve expected a remaster and gotten a re-release of a 12-year-old game. Little to no improvements have been made and the price is almost as a full modern AAA game. The game itself is amazing, and all RPG fans should play it, but either get the original or wait for a big discount on this re-release.

A masterpiece. We need more of this. Great storytelling. Enough crafting elements to make it interesting, but not so much that it becomes burdensome.

Приятная игра из детства. Пробежался по сюжету, насладившись прекрасной музыкой и красивым миром. Боевая система всё так же принесла много удовольствия.

For nostalgia only. For new players all the positive and interesting features are met with "that's it?" after a couple hours in. Interesting concept, bland execution. Leave it back in 2012.

I‘m pretty sure the most of the 8+ reviews belongs to the original game which was awesome back in days. The remaster itself is just a joke. You won‘t get a last gen PS4 game, instead you will get a PS3 game with higher resolution, which is pointless along such low texture quality. It is just the original game with some minor patches which was bundled as standalone for the full price. Hopefully they will add some texture improvements, shader, lighting and effects along the upcoming fate extension, at least some additional improvements for the PS5.
