Insurmountable is beautiful, engaging, clever, and a delight to play — even when I was halfway dead on the side of an icy peak and slowly dying of frostbite. It sounds like it would be tough to make that fun, but Insurmountable pulls it off.

Insurmountable’s 2.0 update brings all the missing content that the original release desperately needed; while the new stuff is anything but cozy, it is challenging, which is the exact kind of thing players who love survival games are looking for. Insurmountable revitalizes the tired roguelike genre with its new setting and careful, slow-going mechanics, but it can feel a bit stale after a summit or two so it’s best to play this one in short bursts. If you’re always searching for that something over the next mountaintop, Insurmountable is cooler than cool — it’s ice cold.

Very interesting game. To everyone who wants a break from a major game. It takes the player a while to figure out the movement mechanics, but in a strategy game what I'm really looking for is having to stop and think about the next move. The mechanics of the events that can provide perks (positive or negative) to the player are beautiful. It turns out to be a nice pastime in boring evenings. The graphics and soundtrack are also nice.

Interesting premise, but poor execution. The pathing is terrible, causing your character to move back and forth unnecessarily, wasting energy and such.

Insurmountable gains a new gameplay layer with the 2.0 update, which gives the experience a clearer structure and players more clear goals to aim for. Climbing peaks, with limited resources and careful planning, continues to be compelling. There are plenty of strategies to try out, many events to deal with, some mysteries to untangle. The problem is that there’s not enough variety, even with the newly added campaign structure. After 5 or 6 climbs, nothing is surprising. The player can try new synergies or new ideas, but the mountains remain largely the same. Insurmountable has a great concept and some solid mechanics but can struggle to entice players to reach more than one summit.

More unique events, more little plot threads to pull on and a greater variety of hazards, would all go a long way to elevate the climb. For now though, Insurmountable is a fun, if simple little experience, that’s perfect for those who want something chill to fill an hour or two.

Insurmountable is a very irregular experience, sometimes it succeeds in what it’s trying to achieve; sometimes it’s just boring. However, it’s a nice mix of genres with good ideas.

Insurmountable suffers from the “pretty syndrome”. Pretty nice graphics. Pretty good music. Pretty cool idea. Pretty solid execution. And pretty much no emotions. [07/2021, p.34]

Insurmountable is an intriguing product on paper, based on a particular idea but with a slow and not very interactive game structure.

Mediocre at best, I did beat the game because it is short enough to get through it, but I got bored before even finishing the first run. The game looks beautiful an unique at first glance, but once you start **** my. Basically there is almost no gameplay. Imagine a FPS survival game so empty and with such dull mechanics that it ends up being a walking simulator. Now, imagine that but in a turn based game with top down view... How exciting! That is exactly what happens to Insurmountable, a nice idea with nothing else.

I don't get the point of this game. A top-down isometric, turn-based climbing game? This would have made sense during the 16 bit era, but why did they not opt to make a first-person climbing game with graphics of Death Stranding? I wouldn't recommend this at all. Boring, dull, aged graphics, repetitive puzzles.

Just a gambling game just takes too damn long.Normally in box games you just skip the walking for straight 20 minutes part but in this garbage you just sit and watch how your character dies due to conditions mostly you can't even prevent. Yea you can choose which stat you gon' sacrifice but it's changes nothing. You are just picking whether you want to die going crazy or you want to die due to hunger. worst game I ever played. It's just a digital box game that has a terrible and uninteresting story. Only a few and repatetive events you have to face and bad animations. In conclusion If you want to play the worst box game ever created and If you get a pleasure before waiting like an idiot like 25 minutes before making a damn decision buy this trash. Most RNG game I've ever seen litteraly no skill reqiuared
