It Gets Worse

Era-defining comedies that capture a generation's fabulous flaws and foibles with such penetrating skill are rare. Fleabag, Michaela Coel's Chewing Gum and Such Brave Girls are some of them. This is definitely another. Bravo.

For all the surface cynicism, fatalism and nihilism, there’s a soulful core to the six-part series that feels very real.

“It Gets Worse” knows its audience, its characters, and its world.

It Gets Worse is truly funny, propelled along by Reich’s zinger-filled, often profound script. The cast are solid, too.

A fun journey in a story that’s less episodic than it first appears, and that ends up falling somewhere between a TV show and a feature-length film.

Reich makes for a likeable and nicely unabashed leading man, and there are occasional flashes of dramatic intrigue and some solid jokes, but It Gets Worse is often shaggy and ill-defined to a fault.
