EvoCreo doesn’t stray too far from the Pokémon formula, all things considered. But it also doesn’t really need to do more, either. It may be a clone, but it’s a well-made one that does everything you’d hope for from the game it’s copying. That’s not enough to break EvoCreo out of Pokémon’s shadow, but it’s enough that if you’re a PC gamer and you want to play Pokémon without owning a Nintendo system, it’ll certainly be a tolerable substitute.

Though I didn’t hate the game, and enjoyed much of my time with EvoCreo, it also suffered from a lot of self inflicted wounds. If you’re going to port a mobile game to PC, it needs to optimize things for that platform. And that’s just not the case here...While I doubt I’d ever see this game on a Nintendo platform, I do feel it would be perfect as a portable adventure. Which is why it’s so frustrating that it’s not optimized for anything other than keyboard and mouse, and hasn’t been confirmed for Steam Deck. But if you can put up with various failings and want a fun, PC take on monster catching, then you might still want to check out EvoCreo.

EvoCreo is a heartfelt tribute to classic Pokémon games, delivering a familiar but engaging monster-taming experience filled with nostalgic charm. While it closely mirrors its inspiration, EvoCreo offers satisfying progression systems and creative creature designs that keep players invested. Its story may lack originality, but the gameplay mechanics and customization options add meaningful depth. With a recent Steam release and future updates planned, EvoCreo is a strong choice for fans seeking an old-school creature-collecting adventure.

Evocreo is a perfectly competent monster collecting game, but its lack of charm and derivative nature make it tough to recommend.

For Pokemon fans who miss the steeper difficulty and the lack of XP share, EvoCreo is one to check out, if you can look past some of the issues with its PC port.
