Cube Life: Island Survival
Between the weak combat, poor visuals, awkward controls and the generally poor gameplay, Cube Life: Island Survival is every bit the awful clone that you might expect to see on iOS or the Xbox 360’s Indie Game library.
Cube Life: Island Survival fills a gap in the Wii U's catalogue and that is something to praise. At the same time, the games's own shortcomings and flaws make other gaps which, according to producers Cypronia, will be corrected soon. This is absolutely necessary, since Cube Life, as it is, does not go far enough to become a significant title in the Wii U's library.
A decent looking sandbox builder of the Minecraft school whose attempts at storytelling and cinematic loudness do not cover up its slow pace, unintuitive button mapping and contrived hardware mechanics. It does however come at a generous price and is currently the only block builder available on the Wii U.

I'm loving this game. Collecting and crafting the various elements and exploring the virtual world is fun as can be. I have never played minecraft, so I have no frame of reference there, but I have to say I can't imagine playing the game without touch controls. It's too nice to be able to drag and drop without a mouse or joystick. This game was well worth the $10 for me.

My younger brother is a Minecraft lover but I haven't done more than watch him play a couple times. My 6 yr old thought MC was cool so I figured I would get Cube Life for him to try out something like MC... well both of us are hooked on the game. My son loves the creative mode because he cant make whatever he wants and he likes using the Wii U pad in the game. I have been hooked on the survival mode. I am in day 45ish and I loving it but with some frustrations. I like being able to swim over to other islands to meet new villages and find other items not available in my home island. I have been eaten by many sharks and attacked by a couple villages when I 'damage' their island. The AI of animals is random and not always as smart as I wish it was... other times it is down right evil! Eagles can be annoying but manageable... but sharks are SO annoying! They sneak up on you and kill you almost instantly. Since I had trouble killing one shark (until I learned a trick to trap them) I barely built a raft. I did steal a canoe from a village and that made traveling so much easier but be aware that the canoe is destroyed by enemies if you build your fortification near the canoe. The canoe also does not like crashing into an island. I have lost a couple that way! :( I wish the game had for save states for survival...1 is just not enough so 3 would be the bare minimum for me. I also wish there was a way to fast forward time at night. I usually spend the night time prepping items and creating new things but I still end up just sitting playing on my phone waiting for 5am to roll around. On a 3ds game called Cube Creator you can jump in a sleeping bag to go to bed and fast forward time a bit. I would appreciate that feature. Cube Island is also missing multi-player. I would like local co-op so my son and I can play together. One on the TV and one on the gamepad would be pretty awesome. Online multi-player would be cool too. One glitch in the game I have noticed is that sometimes when you load your game you start off in a drowning state so you could die in about 10 seconds unless you jump into a body of water to get you **** in air. I can't compare this game to MC but I can say it is fun to play and very addicting.

While I DO love Minecraft, I f***ing HATED SOME parts of the game. The graphics are okay. The controls are jacked up. The story is good. The tutorials ****. Also, this is a complete rip off of Minecraft but I think it is okay for some parts, and unlike Minecraft, this game actually DOES have a storyline. I still think Minecraft is better. I would say avoid this game unless you want to share your world with Miiverse.

Taking into account Wii U doesn't have a Minecraft version yet, this is a nice option, particularly if the developers fulfill their promises of updating the game.

At the end of the day, though, this is the best sandbox game on the Wii U yet, and fans looking to get their fix need to look no further.

It is nowhere near Minecraft, but nonetheless it is a decent sandbox game, and on Wii U, it is the best. Cube Life: Island Survival comes at a low price and with the promise to be constantly updated, so why not to try it?

This is a very rough and slapped together product and if bought at the introductory lower price, it is at least fair.
