Chants of Sennaar è un videogioco indie sviluppato da Rundisc e pubblicato nel 2023. E’ un avventura e rompicapo dove hai come obiettivo quello di decifrare diverse lingue basandosi sulle azioni e sulla cultura delle diverse civiltà. Trama Il gioco è ambientato in una grande torre che richiama la Torre di Babele, nella quale vivono differenti civiltà divise l’una dall’altra. Ogni civiltà ha la propria lingua e noi, che vestiremo i panni di un viaggiatore misterioso, cercheremo di decifrarle tutte per ricollegare le differenti civiltà. La narrazione è minima, niente viene raccontato direttamente, sarà compito nostro capire cosa sia successo e questo, a mio parere, è uno dei punti di forza del gioco, insieme al finale che personalmente è stato molto significativo. Gameplay Come detto in precedenza, il nostro obiettivo sarà quello di decifrare le differenti lingue e per farlo saremo muniti di un libro nel quale saranno accumulate tutte le parole che leggeremo e ascolteremo durante la nostra permanenza nella torre. Tramite il libro potremmo ipotizzare il significato delle parole accumulate e se lo facciamo correttamente la parola verrà decifrata. Questa meccanica, anche se abbastanza complessa, è una delle più soddisfacenti che abbia mai giocato. Grafica e Audio️ La grafica del gioco è semplice, ma pulita, i colori molto saturi e la grande attenzione ai dettagli rende l’esperienza molto appagante. Ogni popolo che abita ogni piano ha una propria e unica architettura che rimanda al loro ruolo all’interno della torre. La colonna sonora che ti accompagna durante il gameplay è discreta, non crea disturbo, ma allo stesso tempo non mi è rimasta impressa. Longevità Sfortunatamente il gioco ha una durata molto breve, per completarlo al 100% ci ho messo una decina di ore e per come è strutturato il gioco, giocare nuovamente sarebbe abbastanza inutile se non dopo un lungo periodo di tempo quando ti sei dimenticato tutte le parole. Conclusione L’idea di dover decifrare diverse lingue è ciò che mi ha fatto giocare questo gioco, seppur di durata molto breve l’esperienza è stata molto divertente e soddisfacente con un finale che però mi ha lasciato molto riflettere. Voto = 8

Un juego sofisticado que respeta al jugador y se contenta con ofrecerte una experiencia lingüística acompañada de un apartado visual impecable y una banda sonora adecuada para la aventura. Los puzzles son interactivos y en todo momento se pueden realizar sin que abrumen. La verdad es que es una experiencia única para amantes del aprendizaje de lenguas y un juego que puede ser descifrado por casi cualquier jugador con un poco de paciencia y dedicación. Un acierto y una respuesta a la falta de comunicación de muchos juegos en el mercado triple A contemporáneo.

Finished Chants of Sennaar and loved it. The puzzles are challenging without being frustrating, and figuring out the languages is incredibly satisfying. It constantly makes you feel smart when things finally click. One of those rare games that respects the player. Easy 10/10.

I enjoyed this. The puzzle elements mesh into an overall story very nicely. It's essentially a game of observation and inference, although you can brute force the solutions with enough time too, as you learn the different languages of the inhabitants of a tower. Some little tiny criticisms from me are around things like the camera being a bit slow at times to keep up with your character, and it can make exploration feel a little tedious when that happens. It's also a game where I found myself playing in relatively short bursts because your often circling a particular level to find a missing word which will unlock being able to solve a puzzle or another phrase. Minor griping aside, a really good game from a small indie team.

Chants of Sennaar est un jeu très bien pensé et qui apporte quelque chose de relativement neuf dans le jeu vidéo. Son concept est simple mais terriblement bien exécuté. Chaque niveau à sa propre identité et la durée est bien gérée.

Chants of Sennaar is an enjoyable little indie linguistic puzzle game. I enjoy language puzzles. After finishing "Heaven's Vault" (another language puzzle game, made by INKLE) I wanted more and this scratched the itch. It's nothing fancy, just a point and click adventure where you are piecing together a bunch of languages. It puzzles are engaging and I had fun putting together words and their meaning even though I was wrong most of the time. Probably okay for a play though but then the novelty wears off. 6/10, **** the stealth sections

A very fun linguistic adventure! I highly recommend this to everyone who loves languages and puzzles, this game re-ignited my passion of learning new languages (I'm trying to learn some Latin now!). The only frustrating part was that at times the visuals in the journal can be a little bit hard to decipher, especially if they are describing an abstract concept, but it's okay, the concepts aren't that difficult and there are plenty environmental clues so that you will eventually understand what the symbol actually means. The game is very forgiving, and even if you make mistakes, you can always try again and fix stuff :)

Very decent! But the last puzzle of the scientists' place and some of the "Reviving" puzzles were pretty frustrating.

Very interesting game, the extra bits at the end are a little crufty though.

Wow. This game is a complete masterpiece. The core mechanic is so original and does a fantastic job of getting across the message of communication and unity. It’s just a triumph in so many ways, all working together to create a truly perfect game. I’ve never played a game that got me thinking about the craft of game design like this one did, and it’s left me excited to find more games that are this completely original.

Puzzle/mystery game that reminds me of other top games in those genres while still bringing something meaningfully unique to the genre. Thinking through the lens of different languages for this game provides an interesting and intellectually fulfilling problem to solve

Good puzzling fun in old school point and click style. It's not point and click but the overall feel brings back those games

J'ai réussi à atteindre le dernier chapitre du jeu sans aucun guide. Malheureusement le dernier était plus fort que moi. Cependant j'ai pris beaucoup de plaisir excepté les moments à tourner en rond pour trouver un seul petit indice. Mais Chants of Sennaar est un jeu unique avec une patte artistique sans pareil. Belle créativité et belle réussite à attiser la curiosité.

I want to erase my memory and play again. Everything was a perfect experience.

I love the idea of a puzzle game that creates its puzzles based on language and learning through action. I thought the story and the world were beautifully realized. I just don't think the large amount of forced stealth sections in the middle of the game really was the best choice. It killed the pacing for me and made me not want to continue playing.

I love languages, and I love puzzle games, so Chants of Sennaar sounded like a game that I would love, and... I really did! As soon as you get a good grip of the main mechanic, Chants of Sennaar becomes fun, and it hits this sweet spot of being challenging without ever becoming frustrating. The game is full of love (and research!) towards the concept of different languages and how they are spoken, it explores the themes of humanity and understanding between different people, therefore, the concluding part of the game feels really nice and heart-warming. Definitely one of the brightest indie highlights of 2023 for me!

This game is a confusing mess that explains nothing in detail and is so abstract it does not even qualify as art. By the time I had gotten to the second "puzzle" which was 6 levers that needed to be moved the journal still showed nothing except the three symbols from the first door and the ability to note what you think the symbols are. This needs direction added and even more guesswork removed before I would consider this an enjoyable, playable experience.

It is a good, cozy, and creative puzzle game, the storyline is intense and full of meaning. also, the game is for the casual players and can be bitten by any person. it has very unique and memorable style in the arts. so give this game a try

Quel bonheur d'avoir trouvé ce jeu en promo sur steam. Depuis Outer Wilds je n'avais pas fais de jeu aussi prenant et engageant. J'ai adoré les trois premiers niveau notamment les troisièmes sur lequel j'ai passé le plus de temps. Les graphismes de ce jeu sont magnifiques pour moi et les personnages très réussies. Le seul défaut pour moi dance ce jeu c'set les deux derniers niveaux que j'ai moins aimé néanmoins la fin reste marquante. Pour la ce jeu n'est pas un 9/10 mais un 9,5/10 cependant je préfère rester sur 9 que sur 10 car ce jeu n'est pas parfait à mon sens. Bref j'ai passé deux des jours les plus divertissants de mon année merci aux développeurs.

Best puzzle game i've ever played. It feels a bit like obra dinn and similar, but this one is actually good and doesn't make my eyes bleed. It really shows that devs put a ton of love and care into this game and it's worldbuilding.

Absolute hidden gem that you should try asap. The game is so clever. Being able to find out each word means is sometimes hard but not that hard. The game makes you feel you're a genius once you found out. Give it a try, you won't regret

Very interesting puzzle game. Wish it was just a bit more satisfying to solve the languages as the concept is a lot cooler then how it actually works in the game. It pulls it off to a degree, but I feel its just missing something that makes it a really top tier puzzle game. A few of the puzzles can be fairly obscure. The story was ok, but feel it could have gotten a little crazier and taken a bigger risk with the ending.

However, i believe that the game did not reach its maximum potential, it could have been brilliant but it is good in its own way. PT: Um jogo lindo, cativante, com trilha sonora maravilhosa e uma jogabilidade que traz satisfação a cada minuto jogado. Porém acredito que o jogo não atingiu seu potencial máximo, poderia ter sido brilhante mas é bom à sua maneira

Great art style and puzzle mechanics. I really like this game, but the animations were clearly not the focus of the devs, could get some work. Overall 9/10, solid game. Love it!

New creative puzzle mechanic with some nice levels, but does't add much on top of that.

An amazing game that will make you binge it for hours. The scenery is beautiful, the story is entertaining, and the gameplay is extremely unique but simple in theory… but hard to actually accomplish in practice. The objective is simple… reverse engineer entire languages with nothing but texts or speech. Simple, right? Maybe not, but it wouldn’t be a fun challenge if it were! But don’t be dismayed, as the game won’t leave you hopeless for long. Moving on is often the best choicefor figuring outwords, and backtracking often requires. Somehow, this is never boring though, as while doing so, you will be instead learning new languages in the game’s world, how they work, and how the context of words is done. If nothing else, you can make an educated guess at certain points of the game, and the game will confirm if they are correct, so you will never be stuck for very long. In conclusion, a beautiful casual game to relax to, while also being fun and investing, that will make you think about it when you’re not playing! And as a bonus, works extremely well on the steamdeck!

Great puzzle and learning based game highly recommend for people who liked Return of The Obra Dinn and Outer Wilds

Absolutely brilliant—a game that reveals the ingenuity and creative joy of its developers like few games do (Papers, Please; The Room series; Paradise Killer; Hades). I bow with respect and awe for the game’s creators.

A unique game with a unique and charming mechanic, translating languages is way more fun than you would expect, and the Devs managed to provide the player with much more than you can think of, also great ending. Absolutely recommended.

This game does everything right! The gameplay is entirely novel, the story and puzzles are clever and motivating, graphics and design are beautiful and the game mechanics and wonderful music fit perfectly. The best adventure type game that I played in years!

This game offers a very satisfying gameplay mixing translation and detective work, in gorgeous environments reminiscent of Moebius comics. It is a short and condensed experience (6-10 hours) rich in ah-HA moments where everything clicks and suddenly the whole world starts making sense. Highly recommended to those who enjoyed games such as Return Of The Obra Dinn.
