Catherine: Full Body is a unique blend of puzzle gameplay and dramatic storytelling with memorable characters and a stylish presentation. Its challenging block-climbing mechanics are rewarding, though the difficulty spikes and sometimes messy narrative choices can be frustrating. A creative and unusual experience that stands apart from most games.

I wasnt expecting to love this game so much, while i hated vincent for being a cheater, i cant deny that the story does throw in some interesting twists, like every game derived from smt and persona, catherine has an amazing soundtrack, which pairs up extremely well with the surprisingly good puzzle gameplay. I think full body is an overall better experience over the base game, just like p4g and p5r, the additions make it a better experience and if you really hate the new things you can just ignore them (I absolutely love rin as a character tho).

My first experience with Catherine was playing it at my friend's house in high school, and I only just revisited Catherine Full Body earlier this week. Compared to the visuals of the original game, Full Body looks more on par with the more recent Persona games. The puzzle stages are very interesting, and really make the player think, though new players shouldn't feel too left out, as there are some perks to playing on easier difficulties. Voice acting and story are some of the best, and the new addition of Rin helps with replayability. I strongly recommend this game to puzzle fans.

Graphics are cohesively styled and nice to look at - somewhat typical ATLUS character designs. The colour schemes are pleasing to the eye and I overall enjoyed the aesthetics of the game a lot. The protagonist, Vincent, is a 30-something year old socially awkward deadbeat who's going nowhere in particular in life and has to decide whether he's going to stay that way or start getting his act together. He's an objectively bad person at first, and so he might be hard to like for a lot of players, but I personally found his character development fun to guide along, and the comedy he brings with his constant anxiety and horrified reactions to everything had me endeared. Your potential love interests are Katherine, an ambitious and diligent career woman who wants Vincent to settle down and start taking things more seriously; Catherine, a playful and uncommitted seductress who doesn't believe in love; and Rin, a sweet and mysterious neighbour who doesn't seem to remember much of his past. I enjoyed all three characters and their different dynamics with Vincent (and who he can become as a result of those dynamics), but my personal favourite is probably Rin thanks to what he represents - I believe as a partner he is the biggest catalyst for Vincent to grow as a person and to find genuine happiness. The supporting characters, primarily Vincent's group of friends and Erica, the waitress at the bar they all hang out at, are likeable and funny. I enjoyed all of the voice acting fine. Troy Baker as Vincent is on point and hits all of the comedic beats perfectly, and while my personal enjoyment can vary with the other characters' voices, none of them were bad. A surprisingly mature and nuanced take on relationships for a game like this, Catherine: Full Body deals with infidelity, commitment, sexuality, gender identity, and personal growth. I found it genuinely enjoyable to play through, and your ending can vary pretty wildly depending on your choices and route (if I remember correctly, there are 16 or 17 different possibilities). The game has two very different gameplay styles. During the day, it's a dating sim/visual novel; Vincent hangs out at the bar with his group of friends, answers texts on his phone and has conversations with his various romantic interests, and has cutscenes with other characters. At night, it turns into a genuinely challenging and fast-paced puzzle game, where you guide Vincent through a series of nightmares he finds himself cursed with where any death in his sleep means a death in reality. I was playing it more for the story and choices than I was for the puzzles, so I ended up utilising the new QoL/accessibility toggles in this edition to breeze past most of them. I believe there is a competitive multiplayer mode to the puzzle gameplay, but I've never tried it. To address the elephant in the room, I'm sure there's nothing I can say about the transphobia criticisms about this game that hasn't been said already. However, personally it all comes down to: I can look past it. For an ATLUS game in 2011, having a major and likeable trans woman character like Erica is progressive in itself, and while I completely stand by the fact that people's criticism of how her character is treated by other characters is valid, I do believe they genuinely improved with Full Body and showed growth in how they treat LGBT+ characters with the inclusion of Rin, the fact that sexuality and gender is directly addressed on Rin's route with Erica weighing in on it, and the toning-down of some of the more off-colour moments to do with Erica's gender from the original. I do think the 'alien reveal' was pretty silly and tonally off from the rest of the game. As some others have said in their own reviews, I would find Rin as an angel much more consistent and easy to digest, and a nice rounding-out of the love interest roster with Rin as an angelic figure, Catherine as a demonic figure, and Katherine as a grounded regular human. Frankly, I tend to just pretend that part of the ending didn't happen.

I feel like this game, the nostalgia of chilling in a bar - it's such a unique experience. The nostagia is definetly better than experiencing it but something makes me come back to this game every few years. It's a fun game with loveable characters and good endings. It's VERY hard to force endings, and the long gameplay feels tedious after a while, even with autoplay... I give this an 8 due to story, pacing, uniqueness, character, atmosphere those are all 9 or 10's, gameplay, "illusion of choices" and a repetitive system of climb blocks + pull L or R string, then repeat 20 times. "AH YEAH ALRIGHT WE DID IT TKSKSTKTSKTKTKTTKSHTK."

Impressive! I played this because I want to check out the previous Studio Zero work and want to play all games made by Hashino. Catherine is really better that what I thought it would be, shining out with strong personal style.

Insgesamt fand ich das Spiel ganz okay; die Rätsel haben wirklich Spaß gemacht, und die Story war in manchen Momenten fesselnd. Auch die Charaktere waren gut geschrieben. 9/10

Des années que je veux faire ce jeu mais je l'ai toujours laissé de coté. Je l'ai enfin fait et franchement je ne regrette pas il est tellement cool, tellement original. Une vraie bouffée d'air frais servis par le maitre Atlus !

Intro: still on the hunt for a good, non-persona ATLUS game. I was intrigued by the art-style on the cover of the game and by the seemingly serious/mature themes of the game. The good: The gameplay actually surprised me. I thought it would have been my least favourite part of the game before i started. I was mistaken, it really did a lot for me. It provided breaks from the cutscenes/dialogue-heavy parts. It has a strangely ****, relaxing quality to it, despite the speed at which I was often climbing. I think I felt myself improving, and i'd like to believe i became a well-oiled machine a couple of hours in. A good feeling. Secondly, it's a unique game, you have to give credit to the creators for having the creativity but also the bravery to create and release such a game. Thirdly, I genuinely laughed at some points, and found myself contemplating about my life and deep topics in general at other times. It has a lot of interesting messages and themes. The graphics and soundtrack were fine, I actually expected a little better, but it is not bad. Finally, the english voice acting was great, and the characters are memorable in all fairness. What can be improved: I thought some facial expressions were overdone, and even limited. it feels like the devs had like 3-4 faces to pick from with Vincent during cutscene. and sometimes his reactions felt unnecessarily exaggerated/inappropriate. Secondly, while i like the ideas of mixing up between 3 Catherines, or the concept of being lethally haunted in your dreams by entities that reflect real-life, personal problems, I thought that the direction of the game in the second half became strange. It took a weird turn to the supernatural and even sci-fi (im trying not to spoil). And I just felt like many answers were left unanswered. It turned out to be a simple, goofy, unserious, absurd, story. I felt like my answers were inconsequential until the ending, and on the other hand, there were times when i wish i could have intervened or spoken on Vincent's behalf, but couldn't, and had to watch many times things i disagreed with/would have done differently - in a game all about choice. Furthermore, the game felt very short to me. I completed it in about 10hrs and a half. Overall: It was a unique experience. Story-wise, it started off strongly for me but dropped off as I got nearer to the end. I thought it would be a deep, mature story, but it went no where with its themes. I think there were too many endings, the new character was not to my liking one bit, and I felt like i had no control of what went on in the game, outside of the gameplay phases. Gameplay-wise, I was satisfied from beginning to end. I give the game 78/100. I never see people talking about this game online. Good luck finding someone whose favourite game is Catherine Full:Body. It's for a reason. I dont regret playing, but I dont look back especially fondly either, I will remember the characters, gameplay, and uniqueness of the whole experience, but i will very quickly forget about this story and its messages. ok dont cheat i guess, and be truthful and money isn't everything, and, idk, dont assume gender or all ppl r real, or smth? Drinking bad? Nothing too profound, despite having the good groundworks for so.

Futa-succubi dating-sim, with one of the best soundtracks ever. Hell yes. Also some great mature themes which unironically helped me form a better mindset on dating and relationships. Men out there, respect yourself, but also respect your partner

Gosh dang they did it! Not only did they make this game less transphobic, but they also were able to add Rin in such a great way that makes it for an excellent addition to the original Catherine game. What effectively is a 1.5 game, this is the optimal version of Catherine that you should play. Also Vincent is a BIcon!

Classical Atlus game, not too much surprise but also not too much disappointment. The story is fine but not great, the ****, I choose to use autoplay, it just doesn't interest me. Art is just amazing and suits Atlus title. A good game if you are into Atlus type of game

A great story with a new gameplay system changes from other classic gameplay

This game is something **** pleasure for me. The story is actually decent overall with some genuinely funny interactions, but also some deep messages and themes. I really enjoyed the gameplay, it might look simple in the beginning but things get serious later on, with the last 2-3 dungeons being somewhat more challenging than the rest. The only downside to it is that it's quite repetitive, not only the puzzles but even hanging out at the bar, unfortunately the things you can do in the game aren't that many, it's very linear. As for the soundtrack, it's so good! Very unique and charming, adds a lot of personality to the game's atmosphere and vibe. Lastly, there's a decent amount of content, the various challenges and even the multiplayer mode, which is more than enough for a game like this. However, I do think that the game is outdated in some ways, the character's movement feels clunky, the 2D animation is choppy and the facial expressions are strange to say the least. I finished this game in one sitting with no breaks, and it took me 14 hours. It was very fun from start to finish, which is a very big compliment considering how I've never played a game similar to Catherine before, it truly is a very one-of-a-kind game. Final Rating: "Great" ~ 8/10.

A unique game that I would describe as mixture of a puzzle game and adventure game in form of social life simulation. The mixture actually works really well. It was the story with a lot of branches, characters and intense puzzles that won me over. As warning the game might not be for everyone but not in the sense it is garbage masquerading as great game (This phrase is sadly used today for exactly this circumstances). One part of the game are the nightmares. The protagonist Vincent Brooks is trapped each night in them. He has to climb a tower of blocks while it collapses under him. If he dies here he dies in real life too. You can climb only the height of 1 block but can push and pull to make stairs or move around cliffhanger style. Of cause there are special blocks, usable items and other techniques to use. The puzzles are nice and get intense on higher difficulties (No problems on easy, harder on medium and struggles on hard). It never got boring and I looked forward to the challenges. I must point out he cant remember the nightmares in his wake state but an uneasy feeling of dread remains. The other aspect is the life simulation I wanted to describe as Telltale game alike first. Vincent Brooks is a bit drifting aimlessly in his established life. He panicked when his girlfriend Katherine McBride he is together with for approx 5 years wants to get married. Additionally there is the attractive Catherine who he encounters by accident and the cute Rin with amnesia he saved from a stalker. I stop here to avoid spoilers. This part happens in the Stray Sheep bar where Vincent meets his friends after work. You can interact, react to SMS / phone calls and do other thinks. Beware that your actions will have impacts, will be judged and there are other side characters you influence. Beware as time passes after a number of actions and not everyone is available all the time. I like the story, characters and writing. The story is well written and the twists are amazingly good. It is enjoyable and entertaining from start to finish. Of cause there are a lot of outcomes aka endings and the story can get enjoyable crazy. The characters are also well written. All feel alive and relatable as everyone has his/her own baggage, problems and worldviews. I want to praise the voice actors here too as they deliver those characters amazingly well. The cast is near perfect for me. Graphically the game looks good and I had not a single bug, freeze or crash. Overall I see this as hidden gem and recommend it if you like puzzle games and good stories with well written characters.

All around really fun puzzle game, which can get unforgivingly difficult on harder modes. Pretty darn good story too. It really tries to involve the player with ethical and moral dilemmas being brought up by the games narrative.

Catherine: Full Body, another masterpiece from Atlus that is now getting its definitive edition and its definitely the best re-release they ever made. Catherine: Full Body fixes everything that Catherine does not so great, the supposed transphobia in Vanilla Catherine with Erica Anderson is now fixed, she is given much more screen time, much more important screen time as well, she is absolutely perfect in Full Body, there are some other minor fixes that the game does, such as improving the colour vibrance in the game, making it feel more alive, best character expressions and so on and so forth. Catherine: Full Body delivers a new experience with Vincent Brooks, and in the most mature way possible, Vincent opens a new door in his life, one where he doesnt have to choose between Order and Chaos, he doesnt have to fully comply with the adult life and live by the strict order of marriage imposed by society's values, and Vincent also doesnt have to fully commit to a completely free life, without any sense of order, just pure giving in to temptation and instincts, not having to take responsibility for the way he lives his life. Vincent now can open another door, a balance between the two, which is the most challenging one but also the most rewarding one. Catherine: Full Body introduces Rin, a new character that enters the Catherine universe, after Vincent saving her from dealing with a stalker, she suffers from amnesia and stays at the Stray Sheep bar playing piano and lives right next door to Vincent. and now with the triangle of love spunning into a square of love, its your job to decide how you will live your life with, who you will choose to live by your side at the end of the times. Full Body introduces for gameplay the remix mode, which is essentially tetris-like pieces that you can pull and gives off new space for ENTIRELY different levels and ENTIRELY different ways to complete the stage, the game is pretty much something else completely, the already innovative, groundbreaking experience of Vanilla Catherine is now back, and much, much better than before. Catherine Full Body also introduces some new concepts to make it easier for the player to enjoy it, once you complete the game once you can skip the stages so you can get through all the endings quicker, the game has a total of 13 endings, which playing all of it 13 times seems really exhausting, but now you can just skip straight to the choices, confessionals, cutscenes and moments that you want to see on your ending. The music in Vanilla Catherine was already something else, but in Full Body it takes a more jazz approach, and it elevates so much the already pristine quality soundtrack, it has a new Opening for the game now, which is addicting to listen to, new themes for the bar, you can actually customise the song you listen at the bar with other atlus games such as shin megami tensei and persona, it is a fantastic feature. Catherine Full Body is what i would call a perfect game, its flawless, the gameplay is perfect, not too difficult not too hard, the story is perfection, the voice acting is pristine, nice adult jokes and you really feel like just chilling with your friends on a bar, the perfect way to measure what ending you will get, by your actions, flawless characters, perfect pacing and development, Catherine: Full Body is unique, its never been done before, probably never will be done again, its mature, kind and frenetic, just like the adulthood. Catherine Full Body brings the message that love always wins in the end, and no matter what expectations, disappointments, happy and sad moments you have with your partner, its all worth it at the end, with love and honesty in the relationship, you can overcome the biggest mountains, climb the biggest walls. And to anyone saying that Catherine is transphobic, my sincere **** YOU because you either didnt play it or didnt even understand a single thing about the game, the game should be the icon of the lgbtq+ community.

Good game. Interesting connection logic game with story subject. I had a lot of fun and I was hooked by the plot, but it's hard to recommend that game. If you like logical games, original thought-provoking stories, it's probably a game for you. If you not, you would probably bounce off that game because the story unfolds very slowly and have a very specific atmosphere.

Wonderful ridiculous puzzle platformer role-playing game for adults. It freaking pulls it off too!

Catherine is a unique story driven 3D puzzle-platformer game. It was originally released in 2011, but this is the definitive edition released in 2019. Catherine is developed by Atlus, the same people that make Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. The presentation is out of this world for its time, making you feel trapped in a love conundrum. Without spoiling too much of the story, you play as Vincent, who is in a relationship with Katherine. Life is moving too fast and you need an escape. Later at the bar you frequent, the “Stray Sheep”, you meets a beautiful girl who seduces you and sneaks into your apartment at night. She’s the perfect distraction for you, but at the cost of your current relationship. You then get strange nightmares of climbing towers as a sheep. Which is the gameplay of the game. You pull and push blocks to climb towers to get out of the nightmares. The gameplay is fun, addicting, and rewarding. But very challenging. Also, you get asked choice that impact your ending and route. It’s a linear game, kinda short, but the story is very good. There’s 13 endings for reference. Also, the soundtrack by Shoji Meguro (Persona series composer) is incredible. Overall a very fun game, with mature, philosophical themes about choosing your lover and what you truly want in life.

Loved the original and that is all still there, did not feel the new character added enough variation in the story, I also felt the re-release could have done more to allow for a branching story early on. Still a great game but not really a required re-buy like P5 Golden.

Really fun game with a great story and girls hot as hell. I’m not into puzzle games but this one was fun enough, I never got bored, and even when I was going through the story I wanted to go back to the puzzles, so that says something. The “good” ending had a really unexpected twist that didn’t like but it was really funny tho.

Great game with a huge focus on story, characters, and world-building. I don't remember the last time when the story absorbed me so much. Yes, there are few bugs here are there, but nothing game-breaking. Usually minor visual glitches.

Beat Catherine FullBody. One of Atlus’s more underrated games. I only finished 1 route but from what I can tell, there’s a lot more to this package then from what I played. With solid characters, great music, and interesting puzzles, this was a great playthough.

Not even close to Persona 5. I would say “just ok, not more”. Did not enjoyed game process much. Story nothing too special. Big thanks that if you want to see all endings, solves riddles again not necessary, can be skipped.

story: full of jokes and moments of tension catherine is a fun experience but one that keeps you in suspense all the time, and let's say it gets a little crazy in the end, but it's fun. gameplay: totally focused on the puzzle of climbing a tower the game manages to diversify situations, strategies and items well to be a satisfying experience for all types of players. art: it follows the atlus pattern being extremely stylish with beautiful character design. music: another pattern from atlus but how can i say, more mature?

Nunca había jugado a nada de Atlus, ni a Persona. Me llevé una grata sorpresa con este Catherine: Full Body. En esta edición se incluye el contenido extra y un personaje nuevo para la historia, lo que añade nuevos finales al juego. Manejamos a Vincent, el cual ya lleva cinco años con su novia, pero una noche tiene un desliz con una chica llamada Catherine. A partir de aquí, durante cada noche, tendremos pesadillas en las cuales habrá que escalar por diferentes muros para escapar al mundo real. Es un juego de puzles, donde tendremos que ir moviendo bloques para avanzar hacia arriba. En estos niveles tendremos ciertos poderes y habilidades para hacer la travesía más fácil, aunque los niveles finales suponen un **** otra parte, es un juego de toma de decisiones, donde los diálogos y tus acciones tienen un peso importante en la historia. El estilo artístico es como si fuera un anime, o sea que los amantes del género estarán satisfechos. También tiene modo cooperativo para jugar con amigos a estos niveles de bloques y un modo VS. Un juego único y diferente de plataformas y puzles. Muy recomendado.

Catherine: Full Body is probably Atlus' greatest achievements so far in regards to narrative. Not only that but it flawlessly incorporates the gameplay with the plot just like the Persona series managed to achieve. And for me, the gameplay never grew old and kept challenging me even further and forcing me to adapt to new strategies. This game offers a mature and serious story with some comical relief aimed at older players. It's quite thought-provoking and even inspiring. It is also a full-package that includes tons of challenging content, an interesting story, and cool characters. The game also looks and sounds great (as expected from an Atlus game). Probably the greatest puzzle-focused game I have ever played and one of my favorite narratives up there with the greats such as Silent Hill 2 and the Metal Gear Solid series. PS: It is also canon for me that this game belongs to the SMT universe.

If you think about it, Catherine: Full Body is a great find. Yes, years later, it is clear that not everything is ideal in this version, but the local atmosphere redeems it in full. There are too few such stylish and addictive games, and too rarely.

Loved the original of this game. 9/10. But found this rerelease a bit of a cash grab aimed at the LBGT gamers. Story is excellent, game play great, but puzzles / game levels can be problematic if your not an experienced player. this version gets a 7/10

I think the original Catherine is a masterpiece. Unfortunately their attempt to expand the story for this PS4 port could not deliver the same level of quality story/gameplay as the first game. While the skeleton of the game is intact, I think the addition of the new heroine is very forced. The rest of the story does not flow as well due to her inclusion, and the ultimate story resolution is lackluster when we finally find out her backstory. Other elements holding back this port is lighting, where the original had this creepy dark atmosphere, this port uses updated lighting making everything brighter and more cartoonish at times. Additionally, certain parts of the game are now censored for some heavier themes (and other times for little jokes that are suddenly deemed inappropriate). I recommend you seek out the original game on PS3 or Steam rather than playing this port.

IT`S SO COOL GAME. SO UNDERATTED MASTERPIECE. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER, its awesome

base Catherine is great, if this just was a graphical upgrade and a few more cut-scenes but the ending for this is so bad it is almost entirely incomprehensible, just buy the base game so you don't waste extra money on a downgrade, its so **** bad

The last game I finished before the quarantine. Somehow I forgot to review it. I'll try to make it short. Entertaining from start to finish, with a fun and VERY well done story, filled with great main and side characters, just oozing joy throughout the entire campaign. The pacing flows relatively fast, dialogues are clever, optional objectives feel natural, the soundtrack is amusing, anime cutscenes are beautiful, puzzles are challenging and the mysterious story keeps you gripped until the end. I was, surprisingly, emotionally involved with the decisions I was forced to make. Few games make me feel like this nowadays. But although I did love the different outcomes that the story can reach, I was a bit disappointed with how they handled the repeat journey, on subsequent playthroughs. If each route had dedicated major varieties, puzzles and unique cutscenes, Catherine would've been an easy 10. Also, I loved the puzzles, but things can get pretty annoying, since the controls are quite messy and restarting a level is infuriating. Despite the game's journey losing a bit of its novelty after you beat it on the first time, Catherine is a MUST! Even if you find the gameplay frustrating or don't care much for it, the charming design, cast and plot will DEFINITELY dominate you 'til the credits roll.
