I've enjoyed this more than any farming game in recent history. It has a huge amount of content, a charming art style and soundtrack, and interesting characters. Top all of that off with the fact that it's the pet project of a solo indie dev, and you have an amazing accomplishment.

Best-in-class for its price. Fast and super tight gameplay, tons of style, and easy to pick up and play for short stints. That being said, I definitely found it hard to put down. For me, it's definitely one of those "one more run" kind of games.

Some of the tightest combat and controls I've ever seen in a platformer. The weapon, skill, and item selection is varied and provides a lot of variety and replayability (which is core to the gameplay since it's a roguelite) and a great sense of progression. Most of the progression though comes from your own improvement as a player as your skill and understanding of the enemies and hazards improve. This definitely gives me that great "one more run" feeling after I die, which is essential for my enjoyment of the genre.

Nothing interesting to say, barely functional. At its best, it's a grade school level story with some pretty window dressing. At its worst, it's a literally unplayable mess.

Beautiful 2d exploration-based platformer. Everything about this experience was beautiful, serene, relaxing. The watercolor/pencil artwork is incredible, the soundtrack is amazing, and the game's soundscape works its way into the music wonderfully. Thanks for this amazing game.

Excellent ARPG. Slower and more methodical than something like Diablo 3 or Path of Exile. Really spooky. Extensive character development/build options.

Awful. A dumpster fire of misogyny and transphobia. Considering the gameplay only serves to prop up the story, there's nothing of value here.

Super Metroid has been my favourite video game since 1994. Now I'm not so sure. Hollow Knight is a masterpiece.

Borderlands 34

Borderlands 2 with even worse writing. Their style of humour hasn't aged well. Even if you were to remove all the dialogue and cutscenes, the underlying gameplay is bland, the shooting is mediocre, and the UI is awful.

Perfect game. I expected it to have great art direction, music, gameplay, and progression loop. It does have all of those. What I didn't expect was the fantastic writing, expert storytelling, and compelling characters. I never thought a roguelite would keep me coming back for the _story_, and yet here I am. Cheers, Supergiant! You've made a masterpiece and I'm eager to see what you will be working on next!
