Capes brings the superhero genre to life with a blend of tactical combat and character-driven storytelling. The game’s strategic depth and diverse abilities make each hero feel unique, offering a satisfying experience for fans of turn-based strategy. However, while the concept is strong, some may find the execution a bit formulaic. It’s a cool take on the superhero theme, but don’t expect it to break the mold entirely.
Capes makes a great first impression as an original superhero tactics title that feels fresh, tight, and responsive. The turn-based battle system controls well and is easy to pick up, while also being so confident in its smooth player induction that things quickly start getting spicy. The roster of cape-less heroes all look, sound, and play satisfyingly distinct from one another and make choosing your four heroes for a given mission a daunting task. Players who like their turn-based XCOM-like titles to be lean, mean, and brain-meltingly precise will be sucked in for the first six-to-nine hours. After that, the tactical puzzles give way to what are essentially trial-and-error horde-survival missions that betray this title’s ambitions of doing anything interesting with the systems or story.
Capes starts off with an interesting superhero premise of a dystopian city that is controlled by the villains. At the start, the gameplay can be rewarding and engaging, while the characters are well voice-acted, and the game has some nice tactical gameplay until the mid-game. However, things don’t manage to carry through and the latter parts of the game leave much to be desired. Those looking for a new superhero strategy game will get some enjoyment out of Capes, but could easily find themselves hoping there was more to it.

It's a unique spin on both the superhero genre and tactical games that is definitely worth checking out. In a vaccuum, I'd probably put it around an 8, but looking at the reviews being left strictly because poor right wing trolls getting their feelings hurt but a little diversity, it gets bonus points. Don't listen to those reviews. They probably never even booted the game up.

This game is great, but sadly it's been sabotaged by a bunch of cretins who are only trying to hurt its developers. Give it a chance. Seriously.

Capes is the perfect game for those looking for a level of challenge similar to that of any XCOM. Fun, complex and colourful, at times the game becomes very difficult, requiring more and more attention from the player, but if taken calmly, Capes can offer many emotions and hours of fun.

An awkward story doesn't hold Capes back from being one of the best turn-based strategy games of recent years.

Tactical strategy meets RPG elements in Capes, a game that leans heavily on superhero tropes to build its own world. While it excels in tactical combat and synergy between heroes, its lack of mission variety and limited hero customization hold it back from true greatness.

Tactically challenging, but in terms of content rather trivial superhero battles.

Capes offers solid turn-based strategy with cool skill synergy and a nice hero design. However, Spitfire Interactive's debut suffers from clear weaknesses in terms of staging, overview and character depth.

The tactical gameplay isn’t very fun and at times in the way it was designed, it feels like this wanted to be a mobile phone game instead of a PC game. It does a lot of things wrong for a tactical game like giving extra unannounced missions mid mission when you’ve spent most of the level putting yourself into a good position to achieve your original goal. The story and characters are both boring and unlikable. The DEI elements written into the characters are the most cringe things I’ve seen in a character backgrounds and personality in a very long time. Both Story and characters were so bad that I gave up on the game after 4 hours. I just found that they weren’t interesting enough to get me to look past the flawed gameplay.

It's so underwhelming I could never recommend it to anyone. Don't waste your time with this one. Character designs are terrible. Dialog is awful. It performs very poorly considering its basic graphics. Gameplay is very basic. Playa new game plus of Marvels Midnight Suns instead.

SummaryTwenty years ago, the supervillains won. Since then, they've created a dystopian city where developing super powers is a crime. Nobody has managed to slow them down, until now.
