Rockford is back and ready to collect more diamonds than ever. With an emphasis on unique modes, this updated classic is dressed to impress. Boulder Dash-XL has enough original content to bring in a whole new generation of spelunkers. This is one cave worth exploring!

Simple and fun. It can be extremely challenging, though I never felt cheated during my diamond-collecting career. There's plenty to do and high scores to earn, but the visuals and sound don't deliver on the same level as the gameplay.

Despite the initial audio-visual horror, Boulder Dash XL ends up being far greater than the sum of its parts. This is one ugly ducking you won't be ashamed to spend time with.

Catnip has done a fantastic job taking the original Boulder Dash into a new freshly-made title that looks superb on XBLA. Perfect fit for those looking for a great challenge.

Below its apparent simplicity and nostalgic, even archaic style, lies a game that offers constant challenges.

While not a full-blown current generation reboot, Boulder Dash-XL is an enjoyable ride that's well worth your time. A cute game with plenty of content and puzzles to explore, this is a title that proves once again that solid gameplay is timeless.

Boulder Dash-XL does a good job of convincing its audience that the original idea can still hold up today. The core gameplay is simple but addicting, and the multitude of levels with varying difficulty make it tough to put down once you pick up the controller.

Despite some annoyances, Boulder Dash-XL certainly gives you value for your money. With 150 different and completely new caves, you can get many hours of enjoyment for a low price. Boulder Dash-XL takes you back to the class of its predecessors! However, some of the new game modes can be boring and seem unnecessary.

The end result is the same as it ever was, delivering a mediocre looking game tacked onto fun and addictive game play. If you enjoy head scratchers, you could do much worse than this old diamond mining gem...yes pun intended.
