Overwatch 22
Aug 19, 2023
Have you ever spent 20 minutes thinking to yourself, "What the hell were people thinking? Why did they think this would be a good idea? Who thought other human beings would be on board with this?" Well, that's Overwatch 2. The first game wasn't perfect, but it was fine. Who the living Christ thought it would be a good idea to slap a "2" in front of this game's title is far, far beyond me. Uuuggghhh... This isn't a sequel, it's just a large update. The pointless "2" is just pretty much a tactic to rope people in. Oh yeah, now you get to pay for new heroes! Oh boy, how exciting!! It was so inconvenient to get free fun updates of new heroes, skins and gamemodes, now people get to drain their bank accounts for them. A fully-fledged co-op mode was planned to be part of this... """""sequel"""""... which a huge reason why people were interested in the game, and then out of nowhere, the idea gets scrapped, so now gamers feel this huge, crippling gut punch of disappointment. Great, now we're left with an unlikable pay2win game. Yes, co-op missions were added, but it doesn't make up for all the game's mistakes. A majority of players felt that the first game was fine as is, now we're all forced to play what's essentially Overwatch 1.3. In other words, something that feels like a permanent DLC you can't turn off. There are a few positives, like one tank being playable instead of two, which speeds up games a bit (although that one's a bit controversial), and there are a few balance tweaks to some characters, but at the same time, some were given changes that ruined them and made them unfun to play.

Amnesia: Rebirth6
Oct 21, 2020
I wouldn't call this game "the worst", but oh my dear sweet Christ is it sloppy. It's a game where the pieces are there, but they don't click together very well. This is the same fate that A Machine For Pigs suffered. At the time of this review, the game has the WORST optimization (which I'm not factoring in my rating). No. I'm not some guy with a bad computer venting his rage to make myself feel better. I can play Doom Eternal with max settings, so this game having choking, crappy framerate in an empty cave while I'm looking at the ground at low settings is a problem. The story is... passable, but nothing great, and it feels uninspired in some places and awkwardly stitched together. The gameplay is the biggest negative for me. The first Amnesia had an amazing atmosphere and everything else in the game worked off of it so beautifully, which is why that game is my favorite horror game ever, and may stay that way for some time. Rebirth's horror element is just horribly lazy, and everything about it just feels rushed and boring. I kept saying to myself, "Please, something scare me already." And... that didn't seem to happen very often. The characters in the game might as well be name-dropped cardboard cutouts, because you'll never find yourself remembering or caring about ANY of them, 80% of them have no development whatsoever. The game has flashback sequences, but are hardly interesting in the slightest. The horror element is watered down beyond words. And the "fear" mechanic comes off like something that wasn't balanced very well. You'll be standing one step away from a lit area and and the player character panics like a child. The "sanity" mechanic in the first game added more fear to an amazingly scary game, Rebirth's fear mechanic is just uninteresting and obnoxious, and it even leads to idiotic WASD button mashing. Just... no. The game's endings also blow hard. You're just stuck sitting there thinking, "Uhh, that's it..? Well, there goes my $30!" It's worth $20 at most. 6/10, the game overall feels like a lazy DLC with a massive amount of missed opportunities. I'm so sorry Frictional, I wanted to love this game, but I don't.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole7
Dec 24, 2017
I didn't get as much happiness out of this as I did the Stick of Truth, but I still enjoyed it. There's plenty of bugs and a senseless feature to be signed up to stuff for some features, the latter being a huge minus for me when i see that in games. The combat and difficulty have some good refining, as well as some of the story and humor, but the overall flaws really pop out at you compared to SoT - making the price of the game very unfair. If you're a diehard South Park fan like me, it's a must-have (assuming the price is fair that is). You won't get much out of the game if you're not a SP fan (yes, I'm being captain obvious here but still). It's an excellent time-waster with a decent fun factor, but the negatives hold back its true potential. Maybe wait for some bug fixes and a price drop before buying. Actually, scratch the "maybe" part.

Sonic Mania8

For the longest time, I internally prayed for a sequel for Sonic & Knuckles - and for the game to be done in the classic style. Not only was that prayer answered, but the game has modern upgrades that don't ruin the game's style nor the flow of gameplay. A must have for Sonic fans, and an interesting play for non-fans. The level design is still good as the classics and the music is beautiful. Like S&K, the game lets you play as Sonic or Knuckles, giving you two perspectives of the story. The plot is nothing to write home about, but still holds up. The bonus games however, though not terrible, are a bit repetitive and get old quick. And the game seems a tad short to me, but that's just me talking. Overall, one of the greatest sequels ever and a must buy.

This game was a lot better than I expected it to be before release. But it has some positives, but has even more flaws and that makes the game mediocre at best. If you find it fun, it will get old terribly fast, and this isn't helped by all the bugs it has. Oh boy, can't forget about those dumb microtransactions. God forbid if you can get everything by buying the game outright.

Not the best horror game out there, and maybe it doesn't match up to the first one either, but it's still well made. It does the horror things well with an okay (yet confusing) story, but sometimes makes things boring and predictable - mixed with confusing and frustrating level design. Overall, great, but not excellent.

Yooka-Laylee7
Apr 15, 2017
Is it a 'great' game? Yes. Is it an 'excellent' game? Almost, but not really. It captures that innocent Banjo-Kazooie charm without fail, which includes the cartoonish style, interesting characters and addicting collectathon gameplay. It looks and runs fantastic, but some small areas of design look a bit iffy. Though the aforementioned charm is there, the game still has its lackluster moments. And you can't help but feel there's a plethora of ambition and quality that goes unused - as if the game could have have way more going for it. It doesn't live up to the same "family" of classic Rare games like Banjo-Tooie or Conker's Bad Fur Day, but Yooka-Laylee is still worth every penny and will leave you burning hours of time. In a good way. If this game were to get a sequel, I hope all that unused potential will be spilled in said sequel. As the type of game it is can come off dull and outdated if not spruced up properly. Overall, very fun game. Good work, Playtonic.

Yes, I'm just gonna get this part out of the way and say the game runs like liquefied garbage on PC like most people here say. Downing the settings and even upgrading my +$1000 PC didn't seem to do anything, so the optimization is quite poop-grade. This can even mess up the combat sometimes. Now, onto the positives. Not exactly a mesmerizing 10/10 game, but a damn good one that beats the original. With a high fun factor and high replayability, this game is worth every penny. Somewhat like (but better than) the original, the story isn't perfect and the characters aren't always as intriguing as they should be, though your interest will still be kept the whole way through. Regardless of story, you get a lot more powers and such to play with, blasting up the aforementioned high fun factor. This game is good and the developers should feel good. Aside from the optimization stuff...

It looks good and runs fairly well, but beyond that, there's barely any substance to the game. Multiplayer is an unbalanced mess with unnecessary boost jumping that Black Ops 3 has. Zombies is okay, but gets old quick. The campaign is very boring, as the story is directionless and "slapped in" with no hope of ever "**** the player in", it's just a dry experience.

Inarguably the most ambitious game in the series yet. Like the previous games, it doesn't fail to have that bright colorful cartoony charm as well as cleverly fun minigames. Unlike previous titles, the game actually features a storyline, which isn't exactly necessary for the kind of game it is, but is an interesting addition and might even get a few chuckles out of you. In minigames, the controls are satisfyingly responsive compared to the previous games. The downside is that many of the minigames are just copied straight from the older games, which makes the game really redundant if you played the older titles. Though the new, original games added do make up for it. Overall, excellent game.

DOOM8
May 24, 2016
Is this game good? Yes, yes and yes. Is it groundbreaking? The gameplay has that intense badassery that all Doom games should have, and does this in the best possible way without overdoing it. You'll have the chance to kill your hellish enemies in any sick gory way you can imagine, though there's a slight negative to this... It's awesome to blast shotguns and rev chainsaws at whatever crawls out of hell while some hard rock music is playing, though after the 203rd time, this starts to dampen the experience. The gameplay is very repetitive and there's not too much story, but that's not a huge negative, that's what Doom is about: blasting everything in your path with no unskippable cutscenes or overly long briefings. The graphics and animations are a solid 12 out of 10. And I've performed melee "glory kills" over and over just to witness the beautiful animations this game has. Though I'd normally give this game a 7, the multiplayer and snapmap bring it up to 8. The multiplayer isn't the greatest, but it's still creative and fun enough to enjoy for a while. And the snapmaps-coop gameplay can be painfully fun depending on the map that's being played. I wouldn't call this "game of the year", but it's still worth the $59.99.

Have you ever watched a movie, and just *wanted* to be interested in it? But couldn't? Yeah, there's a video game like that now. The graphics are decent in one areas of the game, but really ugly and mushy in others, which can make things an eyesore. The quests are boring and the choices you make in the game don't seem to matter. For example, if I choose to spare a person's life, it doesn't make much sense to just have someone else kill them instead. The story is so painfully bland and many game mechanics have been pointlessly removed or oversimplified. It's one of those "it's fun for a while" games.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes7
Feb 20, 2016
The puzzles in the game have the perfect balance of being clever but not painfully difficult. The game's story is a bit goofy, but that's not something you'd play this game for. The best experience is to play the game with friends, but you'll have almost as much fun with strangers, assuming there's no griefers. You can play the game alone, but it's nowhere near as fun that way. Playing with strangers, though fun, can be a mixed bag. You can find yourself struggling to death trying to get past one part of a puzzle just because you fall in a lag storm, as if you're trying to play the game on a dial-up modem. This is hellish torture on the harder levels and bosses. Take note that there's no form of chatting for the with-strangers multiplayer, so the only form of communication is just a select of emotes and player animations.

It's a decent sequel in the Mario and Luigi series, but nowhere near as good as the other ones in the series. The story is weak, confusing and rushed. There aren't many interesting characters. The combat mechanics are clever, but some points in the game are extremely hard and packed with artificial difficulty. It's good for one playthrough, but doesn't have enough appeal for any more than that.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team7
Jun 18, 2015
Is Dream Team a very good add to the Mario RPG series? Yes. Does it live it up to the previous games? Not really. The graphics are fantastic and presented beautifully on the 3DS, the music is amazing, the classic Mario-game humor and silliness is there and the whole real world/dream world features are well done. What the game lacks however, is good pacing, as the game's progress is slowed horribly by repetitive and unskippable tutorials and cutscenes, which are even worse when playing the game in Hard Mode (since the game relies purely on game saves on that mode). Another downside is the story, and though it can be interesting and original at times, is not very engaging overall and feels loosely stitched together. It's a game worth buying, but it's not as clever **** as it's prequel, Bowser's Inside Story.

Alien: Isolation6

Time to break the chain of positive reviews and end up making this one an "unhelpful" review. This game has excellent atmosphere, and the stealth survival horror element is well placed here. The story holds up alright, but isn't the greatest. Despite the game's beauty, there's a lot of things that really drag it down. The worst of it is the repetitive tasks. "Alright run across the map and hit this switch and come all the way back to run this generator ok ok now run across the map two more times because the lights suddenly went out and you need to find a hidden keycard to-" Yeah, painful. Another downside is the layout of some of the maps. You can find yourself running into tons of locked doors and going in circles just finding that 100th generator you need to turn on. Though this is redeemed by the atmospheric design of everything, so at least you're running around pretty well-lit maps and crawling through convenient rewarding vents anyway. Despite the fact that I didn't enjoy the game as much as everyone else, I would STILL recommend it to ever other gamer out there.

Jun 12, 2014
This game doesn't have the exact same atmosphere as the previous Crash games made by Naughty Dog, but it still has every Crash-related thing mashed together in the best possible ways which make some extremely clever mini-games. And each mini-game has unique challenges among them so you can earn different collectables (also seen in previous Crash games). The only negative things I think worth mentioning is first off, the AI, which can make some mini-games excruciatingly hard - and even more so when attempting some challenges unique to those mini-games. The second issue is that some mini-games are simply unfun and unintuitive, but some of them need to be completed anyway to continue the game. It's an awesome play for true Crash fans and its multiplayer is first-rate, but other than that, it doesn't pop out like it's predecessors.

It's an alright game, but it's nowhere near as fun or memorable as the older Crash games. Some of the dialogue and cutscenes are very funny. As you could have guessed by the title and box cover, the gameplay is based more off of Crash of the Titans and not the classic games. The gameplay is alright, and it's fun controlling all the monsters/titans and such, but it can dry out rather quickly and become dull. If you want something like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, then this is the game to play. It's not as atmospheric as Amnesia, nor is the storyline as intriguing, but you will still love Outlast start to finish. The scares are all done the right way. You will find yourself jumping out of your seat many times. You will find yourself in constant paranoia and getting bursts of fear-induced adrenaline for the large chunk of the game. The gameplay isn't mind-blowing, but still holds up extremely well. The only negative point I'll give this game is that some of the level design is very poor, and you could find yourself running around in circles or possibly getting killed because it can be cramped, confusing and repetitive, though that doesn't ruin the game in any sense. Overall, if horror games are your thing, this'll probably be in your top 10.

For an old GUI game, Uplink is painfully clever, engaging and addicting, despite how simplistic it is. It even manages to give the player a feeling of being sneaky or paranoid without going overboard in doing so. It really makes players feel like truly hacking things. There is one large problem with the game however, and it's that it leaves you high and dry on what to do, which can lead you to a lot of permanent game over screens. Very good game. The level design is clever and the soundtrack is just legendary. The extreme difficulty of the game is what makes it so good, but at the same time it digs into the gameplay for me. I'm sure people will narrow their eyes and make a scolding angry face at this review because they heavily disagree and are much better at the game. Some people like extreme challenges, and though I do admire the difficulty of the game, I get a bit of sick of dying and replaying the same level over and over, only to finally pass it and die another 200 times on the lever after that. Fortunately, I'm not incorporating my difficulty issue into my rating. The plot behind the game is very weak and almost non-existent. The game is creative, original, challenging and has 10/10 music, but it's not mindblowing and feels a lot like a flash game.

It's very much worth the $5, but it's not exactly the world's greatest DLC. It's a good time killer, and you get to tinker around with every weapon, vigor, their upgrades, different gear and skyline attacks to your liking, and even more so than in the original game itself if you want. Because the gameplay is focused on just completing waves of enemies without any backing story, it can dry out pretty quickly. If you played the Borderlands DLC, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, you probably already know what I'm getting at. There are little unlockables you can get that help keep you playing, but it doesn't boost the DLC to any great heights. There are some bugs that can occur in between waves that are very annoying and unavoidable, and I would have given this a 7 or 8 if not for that. Still, if you're an extreme BioShock fan, you'll enjoy it. I'm sure better DLC's will come along anyway.

When you experienced the first game, some of the atmosphere in the second game doesn't feel as strong. However, this game makes up for that with the new weapons, features, infected and characters. At first, I was very angry at Valve for suddenly working on this game while the first one was still unpolished, but my disposition changed when I finally played this game and experienced the updates along with it. It's good every once in a while, but gets repetitive sometimes even with the game altering "Director" thrown in. Versus Mode can be extremely fun when your team isn't stupid and the hit detection doesn't screw you over, but I find that more or less unbalanced and just stick with the normal co-op.

The graphics are lacking a little, and a good deal of the animations are stale, but that doesn't bog down the game too much. The whole bank robbing/criminal atmosphere of the game is presented extremely well, and is capable of **** you into the experience. At first, I was just curious to see what things would carry over from this game to the other ones, but I got some good gameplay and atmosphere to go with that which kept me playing until the end. No, it's obviously not as good as Mass Effect 2, but it paves the way for a top notch series. The most prominent turn off for me was the gear/weapons system. It was too much and I didn't want to put the time in managing all that gear for myself AND all of my squad mates, so I just kept it all as "middle ground" as possible so I could go on with the game.

I'm honestly baffled that this as a higher score than Perseus Mandate. Still, this is an expansion that rewards F.E.A.R. fans greatly, and is worth every penny, but a little dry. You get some new stuff here and there, but it doesn't exactly boost the expansion up too much. What gets awkward is how the F.E.A.R. 1 expansions split off into a completely different line of story than the one that's canon in F.E.A.R. 2 & 3, but that doesn't "ruin" the game. Overall, it doesn't match up to Perseus Mandate, but it's still good for a full playthrough.

F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate7
Mar 29, 2013
In a way, Perseus Mandate is a lot like Half-Life: Opposing Force. It's an expansion that takes a good slice of the base game and adds a lot of original spices to it that can surpass the base game itself, rather than just be a boring run-of-the-mill expansion. I was hoping F.E.A.R. Extraction Point would be more like this one, where you play as a completely different character and get a nice new perspective in the game's universe. You get some great new characters, weapons, enemies, all that fun stuff. I think the metascore for this is too low. It's an excellent treat that all F.E.A.R. fans should try.

Worms 2: Armageddon5
Mar 28, 2013
I love Worms, but this game doesn't have the magic touch that Worms Armageddon or Worms World Party have. Sure, you get a lot of new weapons and gadgets, which I'll admit are so awesome that I wish some would be put in the older games, but that doesn't fully make up for the game itself. The atmosphere of the older games doesn't exist here, and a lot of the older games' best mechanics are either watered down or removed completely in Reloaded. Hence why people still play Worms Armageddon, while this game faded away not long after release. With the original creator Andy Davidson returning to Team 17, a better worms game may come along.

Half-Life: Blue Shift6
Mar 28, 2013
Doesn't come remotely close to Opposing Force, but still worth buying and playing. Blue Shift gives an interesting extra viewpoint in the Half-Life 1 story, but it's not as interesting as the previous expansion. With Opposing Force, you got all these new weapons, characters and enemies that one could call it Half-Life 1.5. This isn't the case with Blue Shift, as the loads of extra content aren't there anymore. Again though, it's still the worth money and a full playthrough.

Half-Life: Opposing Force8
Mar 28, 2013
An excellent expansion for an excellent game. It's like Half-Life but with unspeakable amounts of added spice. There's so much content that this almost qualifies to be its own game and not an expansion. Gearbox worked wonders here. In many ways, it surpasses the original Half-Life itself.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin8
Mar 28, 2013
Excellent game, but could have been a bit more. F.E.A.R. 2 is one of those games where it drops a few good things from the prequel that probably should have stayed, yet at the same time, has many new things that make up for that. Mostly. The combat is great, and the slow-mo feature adds immensely to that. The graphics are absolutely amazing. The animations and scripted events are excellent. The characters, for the most part, are pretty well rounded and solid. The game can get very repetitive, but I think the variety of weapons combined with the slow-mo balance that out. The scary atmospheres are brilliant, and keep the game interesting. Is F.E.A.R. 2 one of the most original and groundbreaking games? I don't think so, but it's still very good nonetheless. It's not really one of those overwhelmingly good games that make history such as Half-Life or Mass Effect, but still a damn good work of art that deserves to be played. In fact, I think it deserves a bit of a higher score than 79.

DOOM 37
Mar 28, 2013
I made the mistake of waiting too long before playing Doom 3, but that didn't seem to drastically change my opinion of it. The graphics weren't mindblowing, but they were still extremely good. The weapons and gameplay are alright, and even by today's standards, I think still the game retains some original gameplay elements not yet seen in newer games (that I know of). I kept hearing the hype about how scary this game was, and come to find out, the hype was quite accurate. The game held up some great atmospheres and delivered the scares quite nicely. On the negative side, I found the controls a little awkward, the character development is a little weak and unoriginal and some things just drag on. That includes the audio diaries you can collect, and go on for like 2 minutes before you finally hear the access code you wanted so bad to some mechanical box or locker. It's really no secret that Doom 1 and 2 will live on while Doom 3 kinda fades into the gray void. Still, it's a good game from start to finish, but it doesn't fall into the "games that ALL types of gamers should try out!" category, but I still consider giving it a play if you happen to come across it.

DOOM II8
Mar 28, 2013
At first, it's kind of funny to see this game with a user score much higher than most newer games made after 2004. Then after a while, you realize that Doom is where it all started. On the tree of FPS games, you see games like Half-Life 2, Black Ops 2, Halo and Battlefield hanging on the higher branches. But when you dig down to the roots, you see Doom, Doom II, 1992 Wolfenstein and hell, maybe even Catacomb 3D down there. When you play an old Doom game, you don't just play a classic game, you get a portal of what the gaming world was really like back in the early 90's. Where the graphics didn't matter, if the gameplay was good enough, the game itself was good enough. I don't know any game community that's older than Doom's people still make mods for the game. Perhaps it's just the nostalgia talking, but Doom is just a franchise that can most likely never ever spoil. The classic versions at least. Whether you were around to experience the first Super Mario game ever made, or you became a gamer just 2 years ago, Doom 2 is still good stuff. Nowadays, it might seem super cliche to have a game with demons, miniguns and chainsaws, but after 19 years, the game still tightly holds onto its charm. As expected, I prefer Doom 2 over the first Doom, just because you get the same classic feel, but some nice new extras thrown in that don't overspoil the game.
