An incredible game. It isn't interested in being perfect. It focuses on weaving an engaging narrative and creating believably flawed characters. The game is humorous, entertaining, and a true indie gem. Full Review: ****/xujIFUrwRNs

F1 Manager 20220
Sep 6, 2022
A game that gets worse the more you play it. A fun experience that is very easy to exploit once you understand how the game systems work. The first 5 hours are fun but every hour after this becomes an unenjoyable, disappointing slog. DRS trains are terrible. Fuel saving for 50 laps yet not reaching the finish? Overtaking fails and forces a car to simply stop for 10 seconds for no reason. Honestly, and it pains me to say this, the game feels unfinished and after 50 hours, I have to call it a day. It's just not as good as it could be. Better UI than Motosport Manager and that game is no perfect product either but it is far deeper and a better experience than this.

I like this game for what it is. It's flawed. Very flawed. But there is potential that has been squandered. The game looks nice and the opening movie is goregous. The level design starts dull but does eventually pick up and become pretty great. However, performance issues, ridiculous costume gimmick and one-button controls ruin this experience and I understand the criticism. However, one of my hopes will always be this game getting a second chance to become what it should have been by fixing the controls and trimming the fat. A disappointing game but one I can't bring myself to hate.

Mario Golf: Super Rush5
Jun 28, 2021
This is the most disappointing game I have played in recent memory. The story mode is a good idea but executed... haphazardly. The characterisation is fine but most of them are one and done and don't seem to be worth anything. Everything is brought in and abandoned before anything can be developed to actually be fun. Cross-country golf is a good idea but is dreadful. The story mode doesn't compare to the GBA games or even the 3DS game. Furthermore, there is a lack of content. The courses are basic and there are only 6 of them at launch. Only 6 courses isn't a deal breaker but the fact they are so basic and devoid of character kills them. The battle golf gimmick is another good idea done dreadfully, but there are only 2 variations of the course and the item mechanic isn't as developed as the same idea in the 3DS game. Finally, the big gimmick; the speed golf. It's fun. The first few times. By the end of the story mode, the mechanic had already worn thin and didn't excite me barring the odd multiplayer game. Compared to every other game in this series, this game falls short. No challenge mode (with the challenges in the story just amounting to handholdy tutorials) and nothing to keep my attention for longer than 5 hours. This may end up being like Kirby Star Allies and after the launch it will grow to be something fun. But now, it is nothing more than a distraction and I implore anybody who does enjoy this game to go back and play the other earlier games to see what a truly fun Mario Golf game is. The game is pretty enough but just feels B-tier across the board. I also don't get why there couldn't be more characters in the game because most of them are simply skins. Sure, animation work takes time, but with the special shots/ dashes being doubled up on occasion it just smells slightly cheap for a full price game. Disappointing. Disappointing. Disappointing. High hopes, dashed.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas6

A fun game with a rewarding gameplay loop that sadly relies on repetition a little too often to fulfil its potential. Pros: Combat is fun and rewarding Vibrant worlds Starfox quest adds decent amount of content Free DLC update is arguably more enjoyable than the base game Co-Op is superb fun Cons: The main story is weak and could have been expanded more Repetition of boss fights (extractors/primes) grates on you after a while Inconsistent difficulty The difficulty curve essentially forcing you to buy extra ships is irritating and is not ideal (but as the game is constantly on sale, it is more excusable). Overall, a good game that could have been better with a little more to do.

Fire Emblem Warriors6
Aug 6, 2019
I enjoy Warriors games. Yes, their stories may be... ludicrous at times but the hack and slash keeps me entertained- regardless of what cross over we are in. I also very much like the Fire Emblem series so I was happy but anxious when I heard this was coming. Do not get me wrong, the game is fine. However, it falls back on some of the shortfalls that most warriors games do in that hack and slash and hack and slash is your only way. Good: Graphics Permadeath Tactical Elements add slightly more depth to game Decent character breadth Music is fair/ good No frame rate problems History mode is a surprisingly good fit Issues: A lot of the characters are very similar They could have been more diverse in character selection (older game characters) The Levelling system in the game is rather slow and can make stages seem extended when they do not really need to be. Sometimes despite requesting character tactics, they are ignored. Can drag on slightly Despite a few tactical inclusions, lacks any real Fire Emblem feeling bar the characters themselves In conclusion, as a warriors game, this is good, standard fare for the series but as a Fire Emblem game it falls short. I would still recommend this game to you if you are a fan of hack and slash but if you are only a fan of the Fire Emblem series you may end up disappointed.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses5
Aug 6, 2019
This game is my biggest disappointment of the year; possibly one of the biggest disappointments I have had from a video game. The gameplay itself is good; the core Fire Emblem gameplay is still fun and the monastery exploration is an interesting idea. However, the story is dreadful. It makes very little sense and just feels half baked. The characters themselves are mostly likeable but it all just feels very...dull. The timeskip halfway through completely put me off the game; with it feeling like the whole first half of the game was simply a waste of time. There are some highlights in the game and for those who have never played Fire Emblem before, you will probably like this game. But, it just doesn't work for me. Awakening is my favourite of all time and Fates was very good (despite the multiple stories). Three Houses tries to incorporate 4 separate routes but none of them feel right. It leads to a lot of replayability but if you don't want to play them to start with; they have failed. The main character is a lifeless shell and the story becomes so convoluted and just downright daft that I have had to stop my playthrough. I have played 38 hours of Fire Emblem Three Houses, waiting for that moment where the game clicks. It has not clicked, this game is not for me and not for fans of the older games (GBA era and before). If your new to the series, buy this game. If you're not, go in with lower expectations than I did. Then you won't end up quite as annoyed as I.

Kirby Star Allies6
May 6, 2018
An okay Kirby game. Very easy almost to the point where the game is tedious. The gameplay is still enjoyable and adding the friend characters into the game is nice but in turn, this actually makes an already easy game, even easier. The bosses are slightly harder than the levels although the difference is minimal. If you are buying for a child, perhaps their first game, I 100% recommend this- otherwise, you may find yourself bored. It is pretty mind you...

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy8

Wonderful addition to the Switch's ever growing roster. The game is just as good as it was on the Sony systems and is a must-buy for any anime fan- heck even fighting game fans will find a solid game here.

Lost Sphear4

Does not compare to Setsuna. The story is poor, the gameplay is good but it does try to jam too much in and the weighting of the game feels bizarre. I went to the final boss levelled to the recommended amount with 8-9* upgraded equipment and it took me over 10 attempts to win- due to instant death. Whoever's idea that was needs to... well you know.

FIFA 188
Nov 12, 2017
Why oh why do people moan about things they do not understand. Fifa 18 on the Switch was specially designed for the system- this was never going to be the same as the PS4 version- a fact people still cannot seem to grasp. This is the best Nintendo Fifa ever. This is the best handheld Fifa ever. Personally, until I looked up what was missing in the game in comparison, I did not actually notice. It looks superb, plays wonderfully and I have had no lag or glitches. And, with enough support next years version could be even better :D

Golf Story9
Nov 12, 2017
This game is linear. A to B complete the quests. Game Over. But, you will have damn good fun going from A to B. The game-play is fun and they have found various, interesting diverse ways to make golf- a notoriously dull sport- into something engaging and entertaining. The story is funny and actually left me wanting a sequel. You never know, crazier things have happened. Also, this game is cheap- under half the price a full retail game costs. Even if you are not a sports fan, this game is worth a try; it kept me locked on my switch for hours and when I finished- part of me wanted to live through it all over again. The only drawback is the odd miss when it comes to mini games, the final course takes a fairly steep difficulty leap and that maybe, it ended slightly too abruptly. But that is all I have got. In short, buy it!

Sonic Forces5
Nov 11, 2017
This game is okay. Granted it is not going to win any awards. On the plus side, the graphics are good, the music is as memorable as ever and the story itself shows promise. It is what is done with that promise that irks me. I can see how good Sonic Forces COULD have been. The story and world set up they had here could have worked so much better. They have a whole resistance army yet the only ones fighting are Sonic (x2) and your player character. They could have integrated so many of the cast as playable characters; heck even Tails and Knuckles would have been nice before going to the extended cast. The story in places is bizarre- such as Omega's odd, completely random appearance near the end. Regarding game play- mostly positive. However, the controls are sometimes unresponsive (not helpful in a boss fight), you can find yourself careening off the edge when a turn comes up at high speed, the game is remarkably easy and- for the grand scale they have tried to reach by staging a full on war- far, far too short. This game could have been excellent- too bad we got bang average.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove7
May 19, 2017
Shovel Knight on the switch is the first time I have played the series and this pack includes all the DLC as well. The game play is excellent for an indie game and a real throwback to the 'olden days.' Also, it is hard- I find myself dying a lot playing shovel knight. So, in summary, Graphics: good, Sound: Good, Game play: Good, Story: Good. I have a few gripes with certain things- such as the game play surrounding boss combat tending to take priority on the damage they cause you if you attack at the same time but otherwise the game is enjoyable enough at a reasonable price

Puyo Puyo Tetris7
May 19, 2017
This is a very enjoyable game. It is very challenging- both online and I found myself struggling with some of the individual campaign. The voice acting is not bad but does grate on the nerves. The gameplay is solid and so are the graphics ( but who is playing tetris for the graphics?)> Works well on the go and perfect switch game for a pick up and play in 5-10 minute spurts. Would recommend

VOEZ8
May 3, 2017
I like rhythm games- and this is no exception. The game plays well and the majority of the songs are enjoyable- some are bizarre with pretty dog being a family joke now... However, the gameplay is good- compared to Theatrhythm, HarmoKnight and Love Live School Idol Festival the controls are unique and work well. The graphics, while minimalistic, are fine and suit the game. An online feature would be nice but with the amount of content- there really is not too much to complain about. I love it and Voez will keep me coming back for a very long time

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe9
May 3, 2017
I could spend all day telling you what is good about this game. But i won't. All I will say is that there is plenty to do depending on your preference and that the online racing is superb. I will spend most of my time time-trialling or on the net. The only minor gripe for me is that there is no Switch Original Courses and that sometimes ( v. occasionally) the backgrounds graphics can look.... lazy. But this does not really detract from how good this game really is. Yes, it is similar to the Wii U version and there will be some people who dislike Mario Kart just for being what it is (having a handicap style system where the lower down the field you are, the better weapons you get- which I think is perfect), but the battle mode changes and all the other little tweaks to an already excellent game make this a very worthwhile pickup.

This game is not bad. The puzzles are nice and is a throwback to old fashioned Zelda-style game-play. There are three characters with different play-styles but with only four levels- I found the enjoyment running out quickly. I completed it with the sword girl and only tried out the other two characters. I will go back and finish it with those two one day but it is just not my cup of tea. That being said, I would recommend you buy it if you enjoy this style of game ( it looks excellent by the way) as there is plenty potential for speed-running and plenty of fun to be had for a very low price.

I Am Setsuna8
Apr 29, 2017
This is a game that I think is perfect for the switch- I played it on the go most of the time and enjoyed the graphics, the game play and the story. Quite an easy game but plenty to do and decent amount of post game content as well. Graphics are very nice but would like more than just snow. I get it but it would have been nice for a little variation here and there. Flux system is slightly annoying but minimal gripe. Would play through again someday with great pleasure.
