While it looks and sounds great on an S-rank run, regular play is messy and unsatisfying. Mania's Classic Sonic must wonder what nightmare dimension he got sucked into. [Jan 2017, p.90]

The efforts for modern concept of the legend came out of the way. Sonic Forces has obvious problems with the transition between two perspectives as well with the movement and speed. Only customization possibilities and several new weapons saves it from the average.

As the latest generation of the Sonic series, Sonic Forces retains the high-speed game experience. To comply with the trend of the times, Sonic Forces reduces the difficulty, hoping to use this strategy will attract new players who have never tried this kind of game. Unfortunately, the length is not sufficient enough to satisfy players, and too much repetitive content makes this game boring.

The game itself is way too easy and feels short. But the presentation it puts out is what I appreciate. And finally, everyone works together instead of rivaling.

2017 is the year the Sonic franchise stops running from itself. Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces celebrate different eras, but they both take the same shameless “all-in” approach. Sonic Forces is a confident game, serving up a story and stages that go for broke while dodging the pitfalls of the past. As long as you’re not a hardline 3D Sonic hater, this earnest, entertaining adventure is worth a spin.

Sonic Forces is passionate, strong and fast... very fast. However, it has notorious design problems we have seen in previous Sonic games. That said, the game is visually charming, musically vibrant and brings real hope to fans for seeing the revival of Sonic in the future.

Unfortunately, all of its mechanics are shallow and mixed up... If you love the franchise, go back to playing Sonic Mania.

Sadly, Sonic Forces struggles with the same issues that have plagued 3D Sonic games since Sonic Adventure – portraying an accurate sense of speed to the character while giving players a choice on how to clear obstacles. While the game includes three stage types – all of them are plagued by their own gameplay issues.

Sonic Forces doesn't ever reach the lowest lows the series has gone through in the past. Yet it also has almost nothing in it that leaves a lasting impression. It's the kind of game you can breeze through in an afternoon and then forget about immediately after. The customization in Forces is appreciated, but it’s nowhere near enough in a game that lacks great ideas.

Whoever this shoddily made platformer is meant to please it won’t be those that like Sonic Mania, or any of the better 3D Sonic games.

Perfect balance between storyline and action. A masterpiece (the OST is good too)

For some demonic reason I managed to enjoy this mother ****** game. It has a LOT of issues but somehow I like it. It has a really bad and like an employee ran out of ideas story because it is not good at all. A solid 7.

Eh sure this game has good music and visuals and some stages are fun to speedrun but most levels have bad level design, Tedious to fully playthrough The story is alright but usually sonic games have incredible stories so it makes this game seem not special its been very trendy as of late to hate on this game but its just kinda bad but not VERY bad as people say

What the hell happened here??? Sonic Team is for whatever reason so obsessed with trying to make every Sonic game different from the last. You had a great thing going with Generations, and after trying to reinvent the Sonic series with Lost World and Boom, they go back to the boost formula that people actually liked...only to make the game 10x worse. The controls are downright horrible. What should be simple platforming in the 2d sections is now straight up clunky and frustrating. The 3d sections mostly consist of boosting in a straight line while using the homing attack a few times. Barely any alternate paths to take or exploration to be done. Classic Sonic did not need to be here. He was cool in Generations because it was supposed to celebrate Sonic's past, but he feels EXTREMELY out of place in this game. There is some good stuff though. The Avatar is a great concept, taking the meme of Sonic fan characters and actually putting it into the game. You don't start out with much customization options, but you unlock a TON as you progress through the game, and it's fun being able to create your own character. They also have probably the best implementation of the wisps, allowing you to make use of them without breaking the pace of the game. But the avatar still suffers from the same problems as the rest of the game: terrible controls, shallow and boring level design, and overall lame gameplay. The bosses are mid at best, and it's a shame we don't get to fight Shadow or Chaos. The story is okay, but very underdeveloped and overall seems very rushed together. Overall: don't waste your money. Go play a good sonic game, like mania, generations, or the Genesis classics.
SummaryIn Eggman's greatest victory to date, the evil doctor has conquered much of the world with a mysterious new power. A resistance comprised of Sonic's friends is formed to fight back, and in the midst of the chaos and destruction, an unlikely hero will rise up to help Modern and Classic Sonic take back the world. Even these three heroes ma... Read More
