Final Fantasy XVI10

Easy 10 purely for the quality British voice acting. Regional dialects too, such as Geordie, to show the Americans that not everyone is from London. Best boss fights I've ever played in a video game in the past 3 decades.

Played for an hour then uninstalled. Great graphics and animations, but very boring generic story and uninspired gameplay mechanics. There's nothing here that you can't find better elsewhere.

Kao the Kangaroo4

There's some fun to be had here, but the game is RIDDLED with bugs and glitches. Nothing game-breaking, but there are tonnes of issues that make it look like it wasn't even play-tested. Frozen vases can't be smashed after being melted and instead just glitch out, sounds play when they're not supposed to (e.g. loud waterfall in final cutscene), and it says "Press B to skip credits" when clearly those are the Xbox controls. In desperate need of a patch. Positive: easy platinum trophy!

So glad I went into this game blind, without knowing anything beforehand. Definitely stop reading reviews and just play the game! Amazing experience!

Arrog1
Sep 3, 2021
How can this even be considered a "game"? It tries so hard to be mysterious and edgy that it forgets to be fun and engaging. For example, there is one section near the beginning in which you just drag lines onto another line for several minutes. I'm not joking. No fail state, no context, no enjoyment. Just moving white lines on a black background. "But it's artistic!" - the game Journey was artistic AND fun, same with countless others. Whereas Arrog is just cheap and soulless.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue HD4
Jul 3, 2021
A very average game that doesn't come close to the original in terms of charm or humour. A huge problem is the quality of the sound files of ALL voice acting in the remaster too - it sounds like someone put a microphone next to a PS2's TV screen. Other small problems include the game not being designed for widescreen, meaning the horizontal camera rotation is much slower than the vertical, which causes problems.

Certainly unique, but absolutely RIDDLED with bugs and glitches, even months after launch. Expect to see NPCs suddenly "vanish" and need to repeat certain side-quests. Also disappointing to see the world split up into TINY 'levels' which long loading times between each - not what I'd expect from a PS5 game.

Good graphics, terrible gameplay. Quests include slowly carrying a barrel or wheelbarrow for several minutes, or killing 80+ of the same bland enemy that dies in 1 or 2 hits. All optional skills (eg fishing) can be done AFK so there's no reason to actually PLAY the game. Avoid!

The Last of Us Part II1
Jun 25, 2020
The excessively long story is clearly a platform for left-wing political ideologies, while key characters from the first game are abruptly and rudely killed off. Given the allegations of worker abuse at Naughty Dog and the lead developer’s affiliation to chauvinistic feminist journalists, this game should not be supported in any way. (TLOU1 was amazing though, go play that again instead!)

Final Fantasy VII Remake7
Apr 10, 2020
The game crashes occasionally (even on PS4 Pro) and is very buggy - expect to be getting stuck in corners and unable to progress! Also the game is EXTREMELY linear, almost as much as FF13. Whenever you visit a new location you are not allowed to wander around and explore - you’re forced to walk very slowly behind an NPC and continue with the story. Most areas outside of towns are very linear too, with only 1 or 2 “side” sections per area. The combat is good and the characters are fun. But I am not someone blinded by nostalgia because I didn’t play the original until 2018.

Easiest 10 out of 10 I've ever given. Take the best game of all time, shake it up a bit, add on a TONNE of extra content and some quality of life features. Anyone who doesn't play this immediately is seriously missing out. Absolute gaming perfection.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night10
Nov 19, 2019
Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a fun entry to the series with surprisingly-excellent story and amazing soundtrack. After purchasing the game as a spare-of-the-moment decision and going in with very low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised at just how engaging the game was. With a large amount of content (as well as a plethora of cheap DLC for particularly avid fans), this title never fails to offer light entertainment as a "side game" for a couple of hours of relaxation inbetween longer gaming sessions of the latest PS4 AAA title. Highly recommended for all Vita owners or fans of the Persona series. [Played for approx. 22 hours, platinum trophy achieved.]

Not a cutesy girly game as it first appears! This is a relaxing and rewarding JRPG with surprisingly difficult endgame content. Expect 30+ hours here and plenty of freedom. Definitely worth checking out.

My Time At Portia1
Sep 28, 2019
The game is BROKEN and CANNOT BE COMPLETED for many players! During a mid-game story quest dozens of hours into the game, you are tasked with building the Portia Bridge (not the small one to the tiny island at the start of the game), but if you do not complete the commissions quickly enough then the bridge will NEVER be completed, not even by rival Higgins. Therefore about a third of players who reach this point (according to the PSN trophies) will not be able to continue, leading to their save file being useless. Either restart EVERYTHING or delete the game - I chose the latter. The devs are aware of this bug but have done NOTHING about it and don't seem to want to fix it in the future. This is just one gamebreaking bug, but expect lots of game crashes (where it kicks you out back to the PS menu and you can "Report the Problem"). Also, ALL bosses will remain inactive if you attack them from the side or behind - they literally will not move, leading to an easy victory. It looks silly and honestly screams of lazy design. I loved the CONCEPT of this game, but the final product was a buggy mess. I would love to know what was beyond that bridge, but frankly I don't care anymore.

Horizon Zero Dawn6
Sep 28, 2019
Horizon: Zero Dawn is a thrilling yet original action-packed open-world adventure with absolutely stunning 4K graphics. With a wide variety of weapons, side-quests and collectibles, there is surely something here for everyone. Despite this, I personally found the early-to-mid section of the story to not be very engaging, hence I found it hard to keep returning to the game through this stage, beyond interaction with the myriad of "samey" named NPC's and exploring the world for loot. It should be noted that the storyline does pick up later in the game, although Aloy's voice acting continues to be bland and lifeless. Definitely a must-buy for any PS4 owner, but when comparing this title to the likes of Uncharted 4 or Persona 5, one could say Horizon has been ever-so-slightly overrated. [Played for approx.. 60 hours, platinum trophy achieved.]

Borderlands 36
Sep 28, 2019
Great gameplay, terrible storyline, awful humour. Expect varied and rewarding gameplay on a range of different maps. But the storyline has no focus, is very forgettable (for example, a pathetically easy final boss), and attempts at humour which completely FAIL, especially compared to the amazing BL2. Humour is mostly very "Americanised", i.e. over-the-top 'THIS IS A JOKE' in-your-face lines. One example is a "joke" about a character's moustache is repeated at least 10 times in the main storyline alone, making the game seem desperate for a laugh. The "villains" of this game are forgettable and boring compared to the amazing Handsome Jack of BL2. There are also currently no endgame raid bosses, just repetitive arena challenges that feel like a chore to complete, even in co-op. All of this is on top of the massive amount of lag spikes / glitches / bugged PSN Trophies, which many others have discussed. Only pick this up if you're interested in the gameplay, otherwise expect to be disappointed.

Accel World vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight6
Aug 17, 2017
Accel World vs. Sword Art Online is basically a copy of Lost Song, the previous entry in the SAO series, with enemies are maps that are literally COPIED from that title! Despite the breath-taking flight system and unqiue aerial combat returning, much of the gameplay this time is quite repetitive and the story wasn't engaging enough to make me remotely interested in that aspect. While the game includes a very wide number of characters, there is little incentive to use any except for the ones who you have already been levelling up since new characters' abilities start at rock-bottom level anyway! (By comparison, imagine getting 15 hours into a Final Fantasy game and a new character joins the party at Lvl 1 - why would you bother using them when your current party is now Lvl 30+ ?) Once again, the lack of English voice acting is also a massive negative point, especially since both anime series have excellent English casts: the decision for the game to be Japanese-only was clearly made to save costs on development. Reading subtitles during combat simply isn't feasible, and takes away from the experience. Finally, many mission objectives are either ambiguous or simply don't tell you what you need to do. Quick examples included me flying around a large map for half an hour trying to find a small character with zero indication of their location (turns out they were on the floor, barely visible - thanks, YouTube guides), a main mission that requires the player to use the "sit" animation at a specific spot with literally zero indication that it's required, and another in which a mission objective claimed I had to ask for information around the main town when in fact I needed to be somewhere completely different. Unless you're a diehard Accel World fan, definitely avoid this and play Lost Song instead - I rated that game 9/10. [Dozens of hours played, don't think I can drag myself to get the platinum trophy this time.]

Sword Art Online: Lost Song9
Aug 17, 2017
Sword Art Online: Lost Song is an original game with an innovative 3D aerial combat system, excellent graphics and good solid storyline. While clearly intended for Sword Art Online fans, I would recommend to non-fans if only to experience the gameplay and breath-takingly liberating flight systems. There really aren't any similar games to this out there - the aerial combat is truly amazing and the real selling point of the game, despite the associated controls being quite difficult to get to grips with. The only downfall for me (putting it down from a 10 to a 9) was the lack of English voice acting in the game, meaning subtitles are expected to be read during combat, which is often just impossible. Given that the anime has an excellent cast of English-speaking actors, and that most other popular JRPG's use English voice actors, the decision to be Japanese-only feels like a way to save on development costs. Definitely recommended for any PS4 owner or SAO fan - certainly a reason to buy a PS4 in the first place! [Played for approx. 100 hours, platinum trophy achieved.]

Resident Evil 4 HD10
Aug 17, 2017
Resident Evil 4 (PS4) is a masterpiece: a loving remaster of arguably the best game of the sixth generation of consoles. Expect engaging, action-packed and varied gameplay with RPG elements, an excellent story (that requires zero knowledge of other Resident Evil titles), as well as assorted additional modes such as the incredibly entertaining 'Mercenaries' and a 2nd storyline from the point of view of supporting character Ada. Graphically the game still looks great today, with mostly great textures, framerates and impressive draw-distances. This classic stands as my all-time favourite game (narrowly beating Persona 5) and is definitely a must-buy for any PS4 owner! [Hundreds of hours played across dozens of playthroughs, all trophies achieved.]

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age10
Aug 17, 2017
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is an amazing remaster of an outstanding JRPG. Despite long-time Final Fantasy fans criticising the game for the lack of "turn-based" battle encounters (like previous entries), FFXII offers a unique gameplay experience in a massive open world, filled to the brim with loveable characters, side-quests, hunts, and mysteries. This remaster includes many graphical improvements, a glorious re-recorded soundtrack, along with various helpful and interesting features not present in the original version that really "flesh out" the game even further. The storyline is great, despite being criticised by many due to the main character Vaan not being the main 'focus' of the story, acting as more of an observer. The political elements of the story are fantastic, however, which certainly goes well beyond what any other Final Fantasy title has been able to offer. Definitely a must-buy for any PS4 owner - perhaps even a reason to buy a PS4 in the first place! [ Game played for approx. 100 hours, platinum trophy achieved. ]

Persona 510
Aug 17, 2017
Persona 5 is a masterpiece in modern gaming, which is not a term one should use lightly. Expect an excellent story with an amazing soundtrack, interesting and deep characters with excellent voice acting, and engaging gameplay that switches between a unique combat system and real world exploration in order to keep things fresh. (It should also be noted that the player need not have played Persona 4 at all, since each Persona game is completely independent of other numbered entries, much like Final Fantasy). With a completely original art style and dozens of hours of fun, this is definitely a "must buy" for all - it's also worth buying a PS4 just for this game! [Game played for 165 hours across multiple playthroughs, platinum trophy achieved.]

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy10
Aug 17, 2017
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is more than just a nostalgia trip - it's a beloved ground-up remake of three classic PS1 games aimed at gamers both old and new. Graphics are incredible at 4K resolution, gameplay is still excellent, yet some steep challenge still exists for avid gamers who are keen to seek every collectible, namely the gems and relics. While the updated jumping system may take some getting used to (due to collision boxes changing shape, leading to levels such as The High Road now becoming rather difficult), all of Crash's extra abilities from the 2nd and 3rd games return, with the added introduction of the Running Shoes in the 2nd game. On top of getting the full trilogy for an affordable price, the Lost Treasures DLC brings the previously-deleted "Stormy Ascent" level to life, offering significant challenge to even the most diehard of gamers. With fantastic boss battles and amazing remade soundtrack, this is a must buy for all PS4 owners and definitely a reason for others to buy a PS4 in the first place! [Game played for approx. 100 hours total, all trophies unlocked.]
