Alone in the Dark6
Mar 29, 2024
For once the critic average rating is spot on. I never played the original so I am coming from a completely unbiased take. Alone in the Dark actually has a good foundation narratively unfortunately the game is bogged down by mediocre puzzles, janky gameplay, and pretty overall dull experience. However, I would not write this game off as complete garbage. It does have a certain je ne se quais to it that makes it semi intriguing. A lot of it has to do with the early 20th setting which I usually find quite interesting but also the deep south voodoo heebee jeebees which can be spooky. Speaking of spook, the game is lacking in that department but I think this is on purpose because the story presents itself as a run of the mill mystery and any supernatural elements are perhaps psychological break downs. By any means, it fails to really be scary in any sense. The game's biggest weakness IMO is the terrible game play which seems tacked on and is quite dull. I also couldn't count how many times my character got stuck in the environment. Luckily the auto save system goes off quite frequently so it was just a matter of loading the last save. I also found the puzzles to be quite weak an unimaginative. Only check this game out if you can get it at a heavy discount. I think I got maybe 12 hours of gameplay out of it. Its not complete **** but it ain't nothin' to write home to about either.

Elden Ring9
Mar 3, 2022
Although many may complain that action wise, Elden Ring did not bring anything new to the table, there is no denying that action is still very much rewarding and fun. From Software seems to have soften up on their stance, albeit in a much more clever way, of not including an easy mode. To be fair, over leveling can be considered an "easy mode" or having someone help you, which has always been available through the souls series can always be an easy mode. But now with the spirit bell, ashes of war, and TONS of different OP weapons, it can easily be said that FS has now incorporated an easy mode. Now for the elephant in the room, the open world aspect. Fantastically done and quite expansive. I have about 400 hours at the time of this review and in my 4th play through and I still find stuff I didn't find before. Talk about bang for your buck. The best $60 I have spent in a longtime. My only complaints and nitpicks is something I have been crying about since all of the souls games and that is the lackluster facial talking animations. At least they are somewhat putting an effort in where the mouths actually move when the characters speak but it is so rudimentary that for a triple A studio, it is pretty embarrassing. I also thought that some of the dungeons were a bit repetitive, something Miyazaki admitted was a failure on Bloodborne's chalice dungeons which made it surprising that he repeated his mistake. They needed to have a bit more flair to them and something surprising but they were all pretty much the same. Wonderful entry into the souls series and if you have never played a souls game I would suggest starting with this one as it is by far the most approachable for all of its "easy mode" options.

Game is mid as fk. The stories and side stories are mediocre. The game play is decent but repetitive. The map is humongous but with question marks peppered all over the place the game lacks a sense of discovery so you are robbed of the high you get when you stumble upon something on your own and the discoveries are not that great to begin with. Mostly just materials to upgrade the limited variety of weapons you have. I thought they would improve the extreme limited melee in the first game but that hardly changed. I found the game to be quite disappointing and I am glad I tackled Elden Ring before this one.

Meh. I mean, it kept me interested enough to finish it but I will never play it again. The story was OK and it was really was kept me playing although ultimately it ended being not quite satisfying. The game play is OK but will be a joke to any Souls veteran. Its like a trimmed down version of a souls game and the bosses are laughably easy. The weapons were the biggest disappointment and the variety was sparse and the move sets dull. The optimization of the game is terrible as it had my 3080 pegged at just high settings with ray tracing off and was barely getting 70 - 90 fps. Really for how mediocre the graphics are I should have been getting 120 steadily. If you can get the game on sale, grab it. Otherwise just wait.

The Last of Us Part II6
Aug 12, 2022
I want to start off that I was never a big fan of the original game's gameplay. I found it a bit dull and repetitive and it never really made me want to play it again. I only played my second play through recently so that I could have the storyline fresh in my mind before playing part II. The story on the other hand was very well done. I would give the original an 8 overall for a score. Part II pretty much follows the exact same gameplay and I again I found it dull and repetitive. It gets really boring when 40% of your gameplay is scrounging for supplies. I also think they should have had more development with the monsters. Whenever they stuck with that it was scary, tense, and fun. I think the most fun I had with the gameplay was fighting that big monster. It was different and it caught me by surprise. Fighting mostly humans got boring quickly. Graphics/Sound Graphically the game looks amazing. There is a cutscene where it shows Abby waking up and it looked so real I thought it was a video. I also like realistic violent animations they added. A lot of people complained about that but I loved it. I also loved the little touches of humanity they sprinkled in such as people yelling their comrade's name when they died or when Ellie sneaks a stealth kill and she whispers things like "Got you f**ker!" I chuckled every time after a kill when Ellie would say something like, "****!" . LOL It was so Ellie, I loved it. The sound of people gurgling and choking on their own blood as you sliced their throats, it was so creepy and awesome. Job well done on that front. The music was great and the guitar playing was also a nice touch. Acting Top-notch as expected. All of the actors involved are triple A VO and they even had Jeffery Wright who is a triple A Hollywood actor in a bit part. I thought that was cool. Story This is where the game falters, I think. The overall story and morale were good it was just executed quite poorly. A lot of the mistakes made by the characters were just so strange it made it hard for people to believe it. Even though I loved playing as Abby it just didn't feel right switching over to her character when you reached the crescendo with Ellie. I heard someone else say it might have been better if they alternated chapters and I agree. I think that would have worked. I also think they were quite heavy-handed with the debbie downers (depressing aspects). It's like the game's main mission was to make you feel as miserable as possible. I like a sad story but this was just a bit over the top. Conclusion Mediocre gameplay with little improvement from 8 years ago (which wasn't that great to begin with) coupled with a flawed narrative, plants this game firmly in Meh-sville. 6 outta 10

If you are a fan of the vampire genre then you are in for a real treat. The game has many many flaws but man did they nail a lot of it. Voice acting was superb and the writing was good. However, since the company went broke before the game really took off it was left in a general state of disrepair and the game plays like a beta. Plague with glitches and bugs however it still does not deter one from wanting to play it. This game would easily be a 9 if polished up. The fact that I rate it an 8 with so many bugs says something. The fan made patch clears up a lot of the bugs although not all. Still playing this game in 2022.

This game is a testament to if you have really good writing in a game, then other aspects of the game can slack, namely in this example, the game play. TLOU has an excellently fleshed out narrative with wonderful character development. There is no denying that. The game play is quite mediocre and I had to put it on hard setting the very first time I played it to avoid boredom. It's just very mechanical and not very inventive and lacks variety quite a bit. I think ND's A Thief's End did a much better job in this so I know they are capable of it. It's funny how people get swept up emotionally in the story to such an extent that they label the game "Greatest Game Ever! (sniffle)" . It's like, buck up buckaroo. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement and try to be objective. Anywho, good game and worth playing but slightly overrated IMO. 8/10

Demon's Souls8
Mar 14, 2022
Let's just get the obvious out of the way. The game looks, well, wow. Absolutely fantastic. One thing that can be said about From Software is that they are NOT known for their graphics. They usually forego facial animations altogether and Bluepoint really embarrassed them in this particular aspect of the game. So 10 out of 10 as far as graphical improvement and animation is concerned. One thing about this game that bugs me is that it feels incomplete. Some of the bosses are a joke and gimmicky. At times you face a boss directly after facing one making one think that there were supposed to be other section in between that never got developed. Even the sixth archstone feels like it should indeed be there. I think this may due to funding being cut as this was considered a failure when Miyazaki took it over. I suspect they were not willing to dump anymore money into it. Even the cut scene where the Monumental explains the archstones mentions the 6th one. This leaves the game feeling half baked and the bosses are quite lacking. Even so, the game is quite a blast and very repayable as you can always try new builds with new weapons. There is much to be said about a game that spawn its own genre. Even though the game is relatively easy compared to modern Souls titles, its still quite a challenge and well worth the price of admission.

Played this game straight through in a couple weeks on a rental and although the game is decent enough, I wouldn't consider it anything special. Playing it on a PS4 slim you will experience a lot of frame rate dips although not enough to consider the game to be unplayable. Story-wise, the game is just OK and I thought it could have been better. A Last Of Us it is not. The gameplay was a bit repetitive and the bike mechanic with the fuel was extremely unrealistic since bikes tend to give tremendous gas mileage and yet you would burn a quarter tank just getting to the bottom of your hideout hill. Kinda ironic that a mechanic added to display realism actually turned out to be quite unrealistic. The game is fine and there are some genuinely fun and tense moments but I wouldn't pay full price for this game and I am happy I got to play it on a rental because I doubt I will want to play it ever again.

As most people probably already know, the game is very challenging. If it's your thing to get off by bashing your head against the wall and spending hours (yes literally) fighting the same boss until you figure out the pattern and memorize it, then this game is for you. Took me about 100 hours to complete the game and I'd say about 30% of that was grinding to level up skill and 30% of it was getting my ass kicked over and over again on the boss fights. It took me like an hour to defeat the first mini boss! Spent 8 hours on a couple of bosses each. Of course this goes way quicker if you actually look up tips on how to fight the boss which I would not consider cheating because even after you know what needs to be done, executing it, is quite another story in and of itself. The story was OK but the VO acting was pretty darn good though. I am in NG+ and it seems to have very little replayability IMO. Its no Bloodborne but I would say I like it better than the Dark Souls series which I can't seem to get into as much. If you are into Japanese lore and like a challenging game I think it is worth a peek.

Bloodborne is not perfect but man, does it come close. The setting and atmosphere are indeed perfect along with everything that goes along to making that perfect such as the music. Combat is fast-paced and will test your reflexes. I really love the outfits for your character although they seem to be really limited in helping you out as armour. Barely any noticeable protection which actually opens the door to just wearing whatever you think looks cool since the fire armour is barely going to help you much more against a fire using enemy (as an example), I do have a couple of nit picks such as you cannot reassign your RPG points, having to go to the Hunter's Dream to teleport anywhere instead of directly at the lamps like in DS III, and some of the Caryll Rune buffs are pathetic (2 or 3%, really?). But it is easy to overlook these shortcomings because the combat is fantastic and the bosses are so much fun. Runs like complete **** on PS4 as you will see frame drops especially on the boss fights but it mostly runs fine. Game is on the top of my list for should be ported to a PC ASAP. Game is awesome but not for **** GIT GUD BIOTCH.

Are we dead? No such luck. The writing in this game is fantastic and it's noir theme hits dark and depressing tones in an impeccable manner. I hear people complain about not being able to skip cut scenes to which I would say why the heck would you want to do that? That's like sex without the climax. The cut scenes are there to hide the loading times but it actually is where the game really shines in it's writing. The action is fun and satisfying. I'm a little embarrassed as to how much satisfaction I get unloading my gun into a fool and watching in slow motion the holes appear around his body and watching the blood spurt. So the action is fun and so id the story so why don't I give it a ten? I thought the action got a little monotonous at times. They tried to shake it up a bit with scenes from a copter, a boat, and a bus but it wasn't quite enough. Overall the game was quite fun and I totally recommend it.

Game is fantastic. Have clocked close to 75 hours playing it through multiple times even finishing it on hardcore. Only mention this because I rarely replay a game after completing it so it is a testament to how good the game is. My biggest gripe is that I feel it is a bit too short. You can complete the true ending, that is Leon and Claire's play through in like 16 hours and that is first time not know where anything is. You can probably do it in 12 hours once you know what to do. I think it should have been 20 hours for first time. Luckily I got the game on sale for half price. But I highly recomend this game. So much fun, scary, and super nostalgic.

A lot crying and a lot of whining and justifiably so. I just don't think you should express that by giving the game an awful rating. I myself was one of the ones plagued with the infamous "Rockstar launcher has quit unexpectedly" and I was cursing up a storm as it took me a few hours to troubleshoot and get it working. I work in IT so I can imagine it being even more frustrating for people who lack my experience. But judging a game before you even get to play is just plain stupid. Once I got the game going I was able to judge the most important factor (IMO) that differentiates this from the console version which had that GODAWFUL aim/gun play system. It was absolutely terrible. If you tried to play it without auto aim it was so frustrating and auto aim made the gun play so boring. That is now gone with mouse aiming and now first person shootout are SO much fun. Of course everyone knows graphically and storywise the game is wonderful and that carries over here. I stop short of giving this game a 10 for two main reasons. 1) the awful launch issues and bugs and the terrible graphical optimization when they said you needed a GTX 1060. HA! What a joke! My 2060 super struggles to get 60 fps at 1440p on high settings. Hopefully, this gets addressed with patches. 2) This has been an issue with Rock* for a while and that is the dated mission design. It lacks variety and its very much on rails design where you have to do the mission EXACTLY like they want you to kinda takes you out of the immersion. I feel bad for the people who couldn't get this working. I really do and I hope it works for you but please don't give **** 0 ratings when you haven't even played the game. It's childish and immature. Game is a masterpiece and MUCH better on PC than console.

Besides the absolute mechanical perfection, the game is really fun and good story to boot. Why in heaven (pun intended) has it taken so long for this to come to PC? This game and PC are a perfect couple. I also would like to note that my graphics card barely yawned to run this on ultra. GTX 1060 SC 6gb. Oh my goodness. Such a good story, such good writing. Whatever you are paying those guys, triple it and pray to god they do not go to work for someone else. Heck, Hollywood could use some good writers about now and these guys can help fill the void easily. Coupled with great game design that never gets boring because it never has you doing the same thing for too long. You are climbing the cliff caves for a while, then you are in a shootout, then you are doing a puzzle, then you are in a car chase, then you are back to climbing, then you are... well you get the point. They do an excellent job of mixing it up and keeping the gameplay fun and exciting. Seriously one of the best games I have ever played. I dreaded the coming of the final chapter. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs2
Nov 24, 2018
Wow. What can I say. Disappointment, disappointment, disappointment. That is the word that keeps popping up in my mind. And shame on you critics for having the audacity of rating this game anywhere above a 5. I hope you enjoyed your royalty check. There is no way anyone who plays video games and critiques them for a living can say with an honest heart this game is acceptable in quality. Even if the original one did not exist. So many things wrong and excuse me for comparing it with the first one but it just makes it easier to point out what is wrong with it. First off the story is a jumbled mess. One of the features of the original one which made it so fun was they was Daniel was telling himself the story of how he got to where he was. I mean, you had an actual voice actor reading it out to you and that helped build intrigue and mystery. It was told in a coherent and orderly fashion that was easy to follow as well. In AMFP (A Machine For Pigs) there is no narration. It is speckled with "recordings" that sorta tell you what is going on along with notes found here and there but no narration. The original actually had notes like this as well but with the narration it was much easier to follow and much more interesting. What anyone worth their weight in the story telling business will tell you is the biggest killer of a story is creating apathy for the characters to the audience. If no one cares what happens then no tension can be built up. The other thing that was missing that the original has was it was just too darn easy. No real puzzles that posed any real challenge, It was ridiculously easy to circumvent the monsters, and you had infinite light! One of the greatest aspects of the original one was how you had to collect oil and tinderboxes to light your way and you had to watch how many you had. In this one your lantern lasts forever. Also they completely eliminated the insanity factor which was another huge tension builder of the game. But the half ass puzzles is what really gives away that they really put no real effort into this game at all. I would not recommend this game if you really liked the original. It holds nothing of what made the original great and I never got spooked one time from it. I played the original last week to get myself psyched up for the release of this which I had pre-bought and it STILL made me jump and I have played the game through about three times already! I can't express just how bad of a disappointment (there goes that word again) this game is. I'm thinking about asking for my money back. That's how bad it is. Do not waste your time or money on this game.

Pretty disappointing game. For some reason I was expecting something of the _Dark Corners of the Earth_ ilk which if you haven't played is a far superior game despite the game breaking bugs. (GOG has a version that seems to have fixed most of them) The storytelling in this game is sloppy and disjointed and although I can appreciate the effort to infuse choices that change the outcome, it just came off as meh in this title. Besides the game being ridiculously short, the puzzles were juvenile and not challenging and the gun sequence was laughably bad. If you want to play a good CoC game play Dark Corners of the Earth. This one is a half-assed effort.

Here I am playing it in 2018 and still loving it. It's strong point is atmosphere no doubt. You have a consistent creeped out feeling throughout the game. If you are getting it now get the GOG version as they have seem to have the decency to fix the bugs that make the game useless while steam has the gonads to sell you a broken game. The puzzles in this game are quite challenging and satisfying and I like the fact that threw in some shooter sequences as well. Just keep in mind that the game is old and graphically it is no more obvious. A wheel looks like an octagon and the mouth movements looks like a ventriloquist dummy's but if you can get past that this really a very good survivor horror game. I really wish there were more like it. I got a hankering to play it again recently after trying the latest Call of Cthulhu rendition and couldn't help to think how godawful it was compared to this one even though it is graphically superior. Nowhere near the amount of effort put into that game as this as the puzzles are 4th grade in level. The ones in this game at least are challenging.

When will idiots grow up and stop rating things either a 10 or a 0? It's like their moronic reactionary minds cannot comprehend multi-elements. It's all 70 I.Q. mouth breathers in their simplistic minds going, "GRRRR! GAME ME NO LIKE! GRRRRRR!" or "TEE HEE! ME LIKEY!!!! (clap, clap, clap)" . Morons. Anyways, now that the rant is over I will tell you why I have no interest in playing this game after playing it for a few hours. Its main problem is that there is no variation in the action. It would have done this game some good to include some very needed cathartic zombie slaughter fest ala Left 4 Dead style. Graphically it looks decent but they should have also not made it mandatory co-op which let's face it, the only way to have a decent amount of fun is playing it with other people. A single player variation is badly needed. It doesn't look like there is much of a story to it either. Overall the game is just OK and maybe there is hope for it yet.

Wonderfully crafted game where you can tell the developers really put their heart and soul into it. Just the natural fluidity of Lara running down the scene looks so life like and non robotic that it amazes. So as far as graphics are concerned it deserves a **** combat and RPG aspect is fun as well and very well done. There is no real open world in case anyone is wondering and the game may be a little on the easy side as far as bosses are concerned. Another aspect that may disappoint hardcore Tomb Raider fans are the puzzles are a little bit too easy and unimaginative but I had an easy time forgiving that given the rest of the game is just fantastic. It's biggest flaw is the game is just too darn short.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance7
Jul 29, 2018
Interesting game and history buffs will be in heaven since it has real-life characters weaved into the story which features good VA and a fun story. The combat is a bit overwhelming and clunky IMO but it is by far not the worst of the game's issues. My biggest qualm with the game was just how damn buggy it was. You know the bugs are overwhelming in a game when the moment you get slightly stuck on a quest the first thing that pops in your mind is, "Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?" and that can be a HUGE buzzkill when you are trying to enjoy the game and boy oh boy will you find yourself asking that A LOT. It reminded me of Skyrim at launch. Games like these are really best to play 2 years after launch as you not only will save some money but you the bugs are worked out. I hate people giving the excuse of a large RPG game like this is bound to have bugs. Yeah, no ****. That is considered but this game goes beyond average (as did Skyrim) and I point to The Witcher 3 as exhibit A . A game with a map just as big as this one with 1/10 of the amount of bugs. IMO the game feels rushed and although it is quite immersive it still feels a bit restrictive as there are a number of items that in most games of this caliber you would be able to take such as an ax leaning in a barn or some other tool on the table and you cannot. I also wish you could play in 3rd person but that is just a nitpick. Also noticed terrible lip sync in the cut scenes although I really did enjoy them and the acting. I also wish they varied the character face design a bit more and most people looked the same. All in all, it is a fun game and I could have easily rated it an 8 if only the bugs were not so bad. If you can get this game for half price of release price it may be worth it but I know if I paid full price for what is essentially a beta release I would have been highly upset. Thank the gods for torrents.

Vampyr has some really good aspects and some not so much but overall the game experience was good. But I wouldn't pay more than $25 for it if I could. The game strength lies in it's writing so if you are not a fan of the talkie talkie, I would move on. It's weakness is the combat although not horrible it could use some tweaking. I also couldn't figure out how to target people with the K&M so I had to use the controller. I wish the game was a little more gruesome with the vampire bites as it seemed a bit tame. I also wasn't sure about the no fast travel in an open world setting. I mean, I understand why they did it. The game's full map is kinda small and having fast travel would have made the game a 15 hour game vs a 25 hour game. Game would have been more fun if it had a Nioh like combat and upgrade system. But definitely worth a peek.

Very nice improvement over the first one. Although the first one was not THAT bad, it didn't even hold my attention enough to finish it. I think I got to chapter 14. However, the mechanics were much improved in this game and although the story was slightly more interesting, I still found it a bit half-baked. How did Stefano and Theodore get in the STEM? What was so special about Lily that they decided to make her the core? A bunch of plot questions unanswered but the game was still fun and I am glad that the ending didn't have that tired cliche cliffhanger. I wouldn't say it was scary scary but fun from a horror perspective. Definitely worth checking out.

Game is fantastic! Graphics are out of this world! Currently running it on a GTX 1060 6GB VRAM and it runs flawlessly. There is a lot of complaints about too much batmobile and although I do agree there is a lot of missions that incorporate the Batmobile, I do not think it takes away from the awesomeness that has been the Arkham series. Combat is very fluid and I love how you can switch back and forth between a fellow crime fighter in mid-battle while executing combo/co-op moves. Really gives it that "I'm in a movie" feel. Maybe some of the side missions could have been a little more inventive but the main story was good and the Catwoman side quest was fun as well. I think all of the awful ratings are because of the horrible performance of the game upon release but most of those issue are resolved now. Got this game with all of the DLCs for $13 US bucks. My only complaint is that sometimes it is not clear where you need to go on missions and the riddler trophies are a bit obnoxious.

The story line is kinda of boring but the action with the combat and getting around Manhattan is really fun. Boss fights are somewhat exciting although far from breath taking. One thing that is breath taking are how wonderful the graphics are. The open world RPG aspect adds to the variety and there is very little to complain about. The game it is most similar to is Batman Arkham City.

You have to live with the fact that some games were not meant for the mouse. This is one of them. Anyways GREAT improvement from the first one. Wonderful storytelling and the introduction of cut scenes makes it all the better. Played this game immediately after finishing the first one and what a difference! So much fun and a delight for history buffs out there.
