God, I hate this game. I can't believe I just paid this much money for a game that I can't even sell now I realise that it's not for me (because no hard copy, digital download only). I got **** in by the hype but I've never played D&D or a top down game before and I just can't get into it. I've watched endless 'how to' videos on YouTube and I changed difficulty to Explorer but every few yards it feels like I wander into some group combat and my squad gets slayed. I HATE the limited movement, the awful camera angle, the whole turn based thing. WHY is there so much combat on Explorer mode?? WHY can't I have some time to look around and settle in before having to deal with the combat. I can't say that it's a bad game - I haven't played long enough to have anything to say about the story or characters though it does look pretty. I literally turn it on, cover ground for 3-4 minutes, hit the next combat, get very rapidly wiped out, reload several times trying different approaches, trying to figure out what I should be doing, quit in frustration. This has been going on for days and I've come to really. Hate. This. Wretched. Game. I am NEVER buying a digital game again without having played it first.

I'm really pained to be leaving such a low score for this **** since I find it unplayable I don't have much option. I was enthralled by the opening parts of the game and was really looking forward to getting into it but unfortunately I am simply unable to fly the ship, the controls are just awful. Possibly it is 'realistic' but for me it's just not possible to enjoy, or even play. Full disclosure here - I have a hard time with driving vehicles in games in general for some reason.. Some of them I can manage better than others but it's rarely easy for me. But I've never given up on a game before because of that personal failing, but this one has me beat. Having recently gained full PS5 glory I thought I'd give it another go as the controller on PS5 is so responsive, and there is a slight improvement in my piloting skills with it but not enough, sadly, to progress in the game. Consequently a complete waste of money, and I'm really disappointed.

This is my short, interim take on this game which I've played through the B.E.T.A. and now full game. I'll have much more to say in a month or two when I've played it more and seen the improvements and possible new content. For now I will say that I'm *really* enjoying this game. I love the Fallout world and this game feels like Fallout. The world is amazing, beautiful to look at and varied in its locations. That, in itself, is a pleasure to a Fallout lover. I have played solo quite a bit and I enjoy that because I can take my time, fully explore and read the terminals and notes, listen to holo tapes etc. and I'm intrigued by the story which I have a growing sense of. It's also very fun to run around with friends and do quests, take on big enemies etc. There's some great additions to the enemies in the form of weird and wonderful creatures. The perk system is surprisingly deep which provides so many options in the kind of build you want to go for. On the downsides, I *am* becoming frustrated with the inventory and stash limits which are manageable but just not fun to manage. THIS IS BEING INCREASED! Just read Bethesda's latest bulletin and am very happy about that. I also want to get deeper into base building, having been really into the settlement building in FO 4, but am going through a spell at the moment where my base has been removed every time I rejoin the game and my main building (which is blueprinted) is dismantled. Feeling a bit fed up about that but it may be something I'm doing wrong....I'm working on it and will report back. I should add that that's only just started happening, Prior to the last day or two either my base was where I left it or I could replace it perfectly without any problems. Performance wise I'm not experiencing the freezes and crashes that some people are reporting, It gets a bit laggy at times but that's about it. Neither have I experienced a lot of bugs. In fact in my experience it's running pretty well. I'm running a PS4 Pro & have good internet. (I'm also playing on PC and it runs smoother and the game looks even better on that). I'm really looking forward to where this game is going, and I have the strong sense that Bethesda will be continuing to improve on the teething problems and adding new content. Don't believe all the rubbish that's being spouted out there. Game wise it may not be for you, but everyone I gave a free code to so they could participate in the BETA (Bethes gave all who pre-ordered 3 free codes for friends and I had double - PS4 & PC) really enjoyed their time in the game and 100% came out feeling much more positive about the game than they had been prior. Several of them who told me they weren't interested prior to playing it have now bought it and are having a good time with the game. This is a good game with some things that need to be improved, and they are being improved. I'm happy with it.

This game is outstanding. Unfortunately I was too busy to leave a detailed review back when I completed the game so this will be brief. Suffice it to say, the gameplay is so much fun, the graphics outstanding, the characters well drawn and generally it's right up there as possibly my game of the year. It was too puzzly for me - which I was surprised by, nobody seems to talk about that! - and the throwing your axe to hit three small paddles at a distance in a few seconds to unlock advanced stuff drove me NUTS! But not enough to significantly negatively impact my huge enjoyment of this game.

Detroit: Become Human9

I just finished this game for the first time, and I absolutely LOVED it!! I was fully engaged right from the opening scenes and as I got closer to the end I was completely gripped and very moved by the characters and story. The characters are well developed and I cared about all of the main ones, the Conner/Anderson story was particularly good. The graphics are out of this world - one of the best I've played on this front - and the music is superb and adds a lot to the experience. It is very much a narrative game but there was enough interaction and choices for me to make it feel like I was playing a major role rather than mostly just watching a story unfold. There are many reviews attacking the story, saying that it was a rip off of a movie, but really the themes are pretty universal and for me what came to mind was the fight against slavery, or the Holocaust. The story was satisfying enough and clearly had enough different branches and outcomes that I will definitely be playing it again. The only reason it didn't have a 10 from me is because I found myself fighting with the game mechanics in some sections. There's a particular mechanic where the character does a mental dry run of different possible actions in a situation that needs to be negotiated that I found quite frustrating and ended up resorting to watching a YouTube walkthrough to see how to get through that part, which I hate doing. That happened a couple of times. To be fair, I'm not the best gamer, but still it impacted my immersion in the story, and it happened again very near the end of the game when I'd got a much better handle on the mechanics. Also - a bit like Fallout 4 - it can sometimes be tricky to make a major choice based on four one word response options. Several times what the character actually said was not what I was expecting from the choice I made and it could have major repercussions - and not of the good kind. These are relatively minor points though, and overall I really enjoyed every moment of this game and would definitely recommend it. If you have liked any other games of this type you will definitely enjoy this one. Out of David Cage's previous offerings this is way ahead in terms of story, character development and execution and it stands up well against the likes of The Walking Dead and Until Dawn. This bodes well for more games in this genre from David Cage & the QD team.

Monster Hunter: World7
Mar 19, 2018
Firstly I need to say that I'm new to this franchise, so there is no comparisons involved in my impressions of this game. I played this game a LOT for a couple of weeks (I'm talking hours each day) and had a lot of fun combined with a fair amount of frustration, FUN: The graphics are good - scenery is varied and beautiful and definitely adds to the enjoyment of the game, though screenshots on my Pro show up the poor resolution. The monsters are pretty cool and well animated and in some cases spectacular. The sound/music is good enough. The variety of weapons, armour and their upgrade systems offer a lot of scope and I enjoyed the process of diving in and getting my head round them. Really enjoyed trying out different weapons and the diversity of game play style they offer. Playing co-op worked okay once I worked out the (admittedly annoying) steps required. Low tier monsters were challenging enough to be fun but manageable until the Anjanath hunt. Got my butt kicked many times (alone & co-op). Eventually an experienced MH & higher level friend helped me out and once I got some better gear I was able to progress without insurmountable difficulty, though the fun/frustration balance was steadily tipping in the wrong direction. Arena fights make a welcome change out. I have seen other reviewers make a distinction between 'capture' quests and hunts but really they're all hunts, there's not enough difference to count them as a different activity. Side missions are 'collect things' or 'kill things' - usual fare. Some non 'deal breaking' annoyances: - As a woman playing a female character I hated the ridiculous gear sets that had my character clacking around in bulky, ugly armour over stockings, suspenders and hideous high heeled shoes. Really pervy and utterly unattractive. - As many have said, the lack of other players visible in Astera is disappointing. Hardly anyone uses the Hub which is totally redundant. - Having to go through 2-3 lines of dialogue every time you interact with many of the vendors is a total yawn. In fact, the whole game feels bogged down with animations that may have been amusing the first few times (eating at the canteen springs to mind) but end up just being tedious, or in the case of sharpening your weapon, drinking potion etc in combat can get you killed when the monster decides to teleport from the other side of the area and land on you the second you start the animation, - not being able to see the full upgrade paths at first, especially given how much effort you have to invest in moving along a given path. I relied on the internet for this and a lot of other necessary information for this game which does detract from immersion - I got lost fairly often on hunts because of the verticality. The monster would suddenly relocate several times during in each hunt, which is a feature that I didn't mind except that too often the flying monsters would go to across the map, the scout flies would lose the trail and although I could see the monster on the map, getting there was like finding your way through a maze. - the story...what ****'s minimal and entirely unaffecting, - the characters also are very minimal - I didn't care about any of them, including my own character - clipping through monsters, standing inside them even. Bizarre effect and not good enough for current standards DEAL BREAKING FRUSTRATIONS (for me): Although I invested a fair bit of time in this game and did enjoy it up to a point, the level of grind and effort involved just wore me down in the end. I'm okay with grindy games (have played the Destiny & The Division for hundreds of hours) but the fact that each and every monster hunt is like a Big Boss fight, particularly once you're in the high tier, made it feel too much like hard work. Too often there would be one item that I needed to complete the weapon upgrade or craft the piece of armour I needed that would have something like a 1% drop rate that would require grinding that same monster for hours...& hours....& hours. The tedium of that is very much compounded by the game mechanic that you have 3 faints allowed per hunt for the whole team, so many MANY hunts would end, sometimes after 45+ minutes of huge effort, with absolutely nothing to show for it and very much stretching out the length of grind required to get that elusive drop. I got as far as the final dragons but just ran out of steam, and interest. Fundamentally, this game is very unforgiving. I imagine that if you're playing with friends that would help tip the grind/fun balance a lot. Playing as a solo player in random teams was not so fun once it started getting really challenging. Good game, but not a GREAT game - I can't see how it can justify all these 10's. Enjoyment is subjective, I get that, but there are some issues with this game that have to be taken into account when scoring. Grinding & difficulty level aside, it's not perfect.

The Evil Within 28
Nov 10, 2017
This was my first The Evil Within experience so unlike just about everyone else on here I will not be comparing it to the first one! It was also my first proper go at survival horror as a genre. Short answer - I really, REALLY, enjoyed it....until I gave up. I played up to Chapter 9 on survival mode and found it a steep learning curve and pretty challenging at times but just about manageable by really taking my time and being very stealthy. And I had a blast - loved it! Then I'm very sad to say I hit a wall with several back to back sections that were totally in your face, nowhere to go, stealth not an option, and I just didn't have the ammo or the skill to power through. After dying **** **** ****, and over....again I got too frustrated and quit. I did try and lower the difficulty to casual rather than quit but it didn't seem to make a noticeable difference. As a review this may not be very relevant to most reading this but I wanted to present my experience as an inexperienced gamer who is new to the genre. I thought visually it was good, enjoyed the game play though for some reason I found the controls seriously slow and mushy in close up encounters (may be my settings?) , the story was good enough to pull me forward and all in all I think it's a very good game. Just. Too. Hard. for me.

Horizon Zero Dawn8

I enjoyed this game more than any game I've played for ages. I was engaged right from the get go, although for about the first half I wasn't totally convinced by Aloy as a character. She's very appealing on many levels at the beginning but didn't develop further depths as I'd hoped and started to feel pretty bland further in and I have to say, I think she could have been improved on as the dialogue doesn't do her justice and the voice acting is very dead pan. Back to the positives though - the combat mechanics are outstanding - the bow and arrow, once beefed up a bit, felt like a sniper rifle in its power and accuracy, and the wide range of weapons available are fun and rewarding to use. It takes a while to get to know their strengths and ideal applications and once you do you can swap around as occasion demands and really kick some metal creature butt....when you're not getting your own kicked, which happened a fair bit in my case! I found the combat **** an exciting, pulse pounding way **** definitely had to strategise and plan my attack. There were times when that freshness gave way to grind when the game upped the difficulty by throwing more of a particular machine at you at once, but I never got bored. Occasionally very frustrated - the Hunter Trials, for example, are a good idea but the ridiculously short time allowed just makes them a frustrationfest. The climbing mechanics are the best; even better, dare I say it, than Uncharted 4. Of course the scenery is utterly lush, I don't even need to say that. There were times that I just stopped and looked at the view for a while in awe. The crafting system is well set out and enjoyable. I wasn't thrilled with going out around slaughtering endless numbers of cute animals to find a few of the rarer parts I needed to upgrade my gear but needs must! I thought it was a shame that I achieved the best of the gear relatively early in the game which didn't leave a lot to work for in the later game stages, other than the legendary Super Duper Armour which is ridiculously OP but looks cool. Unlike, I have to say, many of her higher level outfits - who on earth thought those head hat/crowns/whatevers were a good idea??! A girl needs to look her best... If there was any lack, I would say it was the lack of real personality or depth, to some extent in Aloy and even more so in NCPs, and it would have been great if settlements were more than just somewhere to stop and pick up supplies. There was token 'relationships' but way too superficial which meant that there was little deep engagement with the main character or the human world in this game. They were all patently forgettable. More attention to that one thing would have elevated this game, for me, to greatness. As it was, the game was fun but forgettable. By about half way through I was feeling a bit 'is this it?' and would have given it an 7 but closer to the end the story kicked up a gear for me and I was utterly engrossed and moved, which pushed it up to an 8. Definitely a fun ride and one not to missed.

Unlike many people who have reviewed this game I had not anticipated it at all. I'm a new (18 months) gamer who went into it without knowing anything about it. From the get go I was intrigued and beguiled by Trico. My own character less so...mostly because of the incredibly soft controls and the fact that the only forward motion available is slowly creeping along in a funny cartoon like pose or running headlong, and subsequently falling off ledges etc. However, sadly I found that I could only play it in short bursts because I just found it not fun enough to put up with the ongoing frustration of the rubbish controls and trying to figure out what to do and where to go next with virtually zero direction. I eventually 'got' that you have to try everything until something works but it's hard to tell sometimes whether you're simply barking up the wrong tree or the right tree but doing it wrong. In the end though, the thing that broke it for me was the difficulties in managing my own characters movements. I got to a place where I had to get Trico to jump up against a wall so I could leap off his head onto a broken staircase and I did eventually get Trico in position four or five times.....each time taking quite a while as he does everything **** then I could NOT get myself positioned to make the leap accurately and would just fly off into space instead, then have to start the whole process again. I don't know what's going on with that but I found at different times in the game I fell off him because my character wasn't holding on or he wouldn't stop holding on when I wanted him to jump off. Aaaargh! What is that? Other than just bad programming?? It's not a a new experience for me to arrive at a point in a game where I hit a wall and have to repeat over and over until I get the hang of it or figure out what I'm supposed to do, but in this instance I eventually came to the conclusion that I just wasn't having enough fun to want to keep trying. Visually it is beautiful - the animation is often stunning - and I would have liked to see where the story went but at the end of the day it was a definite 'IRBPSE' situation....I'd Rather Be Playing Something Else.

Fallout 410

Well...Fallout...what can I say...I love you!! To give a bit of background, I am an older and very new gamer, who got the bug about 18 mnths ago. In that time I've played a stack of games exhaustively, and have had a great time, but none compares, for me, to the enjoyment I've had from FO4. I've played it through 3 times, each time going up a difficulty, and never stopped being enthralled. Let me be straight - it is far from perfect. It is VERY glitchy for one thing. (**** your damn Brahmin OUT of my living **** dialogue can be disappointing and it's particularly annoying that you often have no idea what your character is going to come out with, as the very cryptic options you're given don't cover it. As a new gamer I can't speak for how good the combat is compared to anything else, but I've found the weapons have a variety of different 'feels' and seem very response to me, I've enjoyed playing around with the many weapon choices and finding my own style, used VATS a lot and, as I've improved, enjoyed not using it too. The main story line isn't epic but good enough that I've been able to play it through three times without getting too bored, and some of the companions and their story's have been utterly engrossing and moving (I'm looking at you Nick Valentine). In fact, the NCP's are in general a likeable bunch and having them around has added a lot to the experience. And there's Dogmeat, what could be better? Other than his propensity for occasionally getting lost - I once spent a whole week, in real time, frantically searching or him in every available moment I had - he is the perfect doggy sidekick and I actually miss him when I return to real life! I've really got into modding the weapons and armor and have had the most fun playing with my power armor collection. The HUGE side story of this game is the settlement building, which for the substantial community of players that have embraced it, is endlessly engrossing and fun, and for that alone you can keep coming back to this game and have new stuff to do, bigger and better settlements to build. Shame about the settlers themselves who are a totally uninspiring bunch who do little but moan and stand on the roof at inopportune times. I wish they could have been better, Bethesda. It's frustrating to have built a fantastic bar/restaurant with all the amenities, great lighting, decor, music etc. for that miserable bunch of gits to sit there like a wet weekend. I'm surprised at people who have complained about the graphics because they may not be the Witcher 3, for example, but are still plenty good enough and I have often found myself stopping in the midst of game play to marvel at the view from the top of **** from the balcony of my home in Sanctuary Hills. To me, this game is what gaming is all about, something with a bit of heart as well as a fair bit of running around shooting stuff, plenty to explore and a fantastic range of environments to do it in, and good company to do it with. It seems to me that so much of the negative feedback on this game is from people who liked Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and clearly Fallout 4 is a different thing. Shame though, for it to cast such a pall on such an epic contribution for what is isn't rather than acknowledging what it is. UPDATE: ...so, after months & months of waiting and frustration, mods have at last come for Fallout 4. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE...I've gone out & bought an XBox and the minute it arrives I'll be diving back into Fallout...with a new **** **** **** characters and places to explore....green grass and leafy trees...Dogmeat at my side AND a companion.....I can't wait. But first, I'm going to play Fallout 3 and New Vegas! Thank you, Bethesday. Shame on you, Sony!

Fallout 4: Far Harbor9
Nov 20, 2016
I have totally loved Fallout 4, and have spent hundreds of hours happily engrossed in poring over The Commonwealth and all its many challenges and pleasures. Having said that, I didn't love the DLC's quite as much and was pretty disappointed in several of them. Far Harbor is by far my favourite one. The environment is atmospheric and beautiful in a very dark, dank and gloomy sort of way. There's some terrific new story lines, particularly one involving one of my favourite NCPs from the main story, and quite a bit of new gear that's a great addition to my collection - including a nice set of distinct power armor and one of my top three favourite guns in the whole Fallout 4 world. Far Harbor is a BIG addition, and provides a lot more world to explore and more settlements to build if you're into that (which I am, in a big way!), so as I had a handful of thriving settlements here, even once I'd finished all the quests and story lines I was still travelling back and forth to maintain my settlements there, and it integrated well into my game ongoing. I have never had any problems with the frame rate or crashing that other people have mentioned. So if you've enjoyed the main body of Fallout 4 I would definitely recommend you foraying across the sea to explore Far Harbor.

I'm a noob gamer and hadn't heard of this title but bought it on a whim when it was on a special offer on PSN, and it turned out to be a real breath of fresh air and very welcome change of pace from the huge open world RPG's I've been playing. It is an unfolding story that you move your character through, like watching a film that you're taking an active part in. You have to make decisions as you go, often having to make choices very quickly and under pressure. It's really well done, it looks gorgeous, and although it took me a few minutes to get the hang of moving my character almost out of sight until the camera angle changed, I did, and it all works pretty seamlessly. The acting and characterization is excellent, I found it very atmospheric, and I was completely engrossed and intrigued to see where the story was heading. I didn't find it terrifying, more moderately creepy with some real 'scream out loud' moments that made me laugh afterwards. It wasn't very long but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and will definitely be playing it through again to try some different choices. Worth every penny I spent on it and then some.
