Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides9
Jun 20, 2011
The Black Pearl is freedom, but it doesn't exactly play a part in this very different addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. In fact, if you were looking forward to seeing the old crew again you might be a bit disappointed. However, Mr. Gibbs, Captain Barbosa and Captain Jack Sparrow are all back and are the only characters needed to keep it familiar while adding new characters to a more fresh story. The story itself isn't completely original though. Being loosely based on the novel On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers it also has tastes of Treasure Island and The Last Crusade in it, but don't get me wrong it was a great story nontheless. Don't bring your young children along to it. Pirates of the Carribean was never really for simple minds to understand. I am not saying it has a complicated story, but much like the others, you have to pay attention to the dialogue, not just the pretty colours. There is definitely enough action in the film as well as a tiny bit of romance, but no more than you'd expect of Jack. On that note, the mermaids were great to watch as were most of the added special effects. Like all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies the effects are believable and that is all that matters, it doesn't need to pop right out into your face. That was the downside with this film. The director seemed a bit too aware that it was a 3D film and may have changed a few things because of that, that just didn't need to be changed. Overall, it is an awesome film. Watch it at the cinemas or watch it at home, either way if you were already a fan, you should watch it. If you weren't previously a fan, this episode is quite different, so you should still watch it.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring9
May 26, 2011
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and its sequels are the only fantasy films based on books that have not disappointed me. I know that that isn't really saying much with great disapointments such as the Harry Potter movies, Twilight Saga and Eragon (yeah, I'm young) -Oh, and the Chronicles of Narnia, but this really is worth watching whether you read the books or not. Based on the first two The Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien it is a typical fantasy with elfs, dwarfs, wizards and goblins(called Orcs) but is boosted up to such an epic scale. Peter Jackson and everyone else who worked on this film really knew what they were doing. Now stop reading this rambling of text and go watch the movie. Rent it if you have to. Just don't let this one by you. Umm... Why are you still here?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest9
May 26, 2011
If you're reading this then you're probably alive. If you're alive then you'd probably like this movie. I personally loved it. It is a sequel to a film that didn't need a sequel, yet adding this movie to the franchise just made it a whole lot better. You wouldn't really need to see the first film to understand this one, so don't worry if you haven't watched The Black Pearl just yet. Seriously, get the -blam- off this website and watch this movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl10
May 26, 2011
They say the first is always the best and it certainly applies here. Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is the start to arguably one of the best film franchises to date. If you like comedy, action, drama, romance- actually, if you like watching movies in general, you have got to see this one. I don't usually give films a solid ten (I think this is the first) but I can find no flaws here. It has a great plot, great performance by the cast, great visual effects and very memorable music. Just watch it already.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian2
Dec 21, 2010
I have read all of the Chronicles of Narnia twice, and so I unfortunately have something to compare the movies to. While the novels weren't all that great I still thought thought they might be able to do great things with the films. I am going to be honest, I have not seen all of Prince Caspian (out of choice). I kept waiting and waiting to awake out of my tedious boredom. It was far from aesthetically pleasing. It seems almost as if they didn't want the story to be engaging, even though I am sure it could have been if done properly. There were no parts or aspects of the film that kept me watching it. I had to walk away by what would have been just after the halfway point. If you are thinking of watching this movie, DON'T.

Tarzan9
Dec 21, 2010
Like most of the old Disney classics, this movie just has something special about it. It seems Disney has been losing its touch the last few years. A person could almost say that the company has forgotten what Disney is about. Tarzan is arguably as good as if not better than The Lion King. It has great asthetics, audio and a soundtrack that shouldn't be forgotten (but as time goes on, no doubt will be), has well developed characters, a story that one could not walk away from unfinished and of course that little bit of magic that Disney always used to have. I have no problem with Disney's Pixar films such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo and even maybe Up, but I am sorry to say that I think Disney has gotten lost in the new technology of today and may never go back to the fantastic old styles like Tarzan here. Then again, I have yet to watch The Princess and the Frog.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I6
Nov 22, 2010
Are you one of those Harry Potter fans who constantly compare each movie to the novel? Then I don't think you would be disappointed by this film as it included all the major events. However if you haven't read every book before you watch this film, good luck trying to understand everything. This movie is only really for the fans of the novels. It doesn't quite make as much sense as the novel and doesn't quite follow the wand lore of the novels, but each event is still there from the beginning 'til the ending point of this film. It is definitly one of the more somber and darker of the series but still altogether entertaining. While it is not the best movie I have ever watched, I recommend it for all Harry Potter fans who have read the books.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets7
Nov 14, 2010
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second out of the eight films, but this and the first would be the only ones that actually makes sense and do not feel jumpy. Someone who has read all the novels would have no problem decyphering the other Harry Potter movies, but this is one of the few that will be easy to follow even by non-Harry Potter fans. It may not be a completely enjoyable film, but this is because it is aimed a slightely younger and less age-ranged target audience. Still, it will keep you interested from beginning to end, and don't forget it has Dobby!

Saw7
Nov 14, 2010
Saw certainly has one of the best plots ever in a film. A common mistake made when Saw is the topic of discussion (I can't say that is very often) is that the gore is the main feature of the movie. While that does become quite true in the later episodes of the movie series, this does not quite apply to the first of the long series of psychiatric thrillers. Of course, it would be a lie to say there was no blood displayed in the film, some would say that there was a great deal of it, but it is the plot that would be remembered by any viewer. The low budget can be quite noticeable at times, however it is made up for with great directing and script, and a major twist that you won't forget. The only real problem with this is that you can watch a crime show on television anyday without having an hour and fourteen minutes, and chances are you will get better visual effects. Still, with that considered, it is a movie that is definitely worth watching.

Eragon3
Nov 13, 2010
Yes, the novel clearly was influenced by Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, even in the sequel, Eldest, it seems followed this influence. However, in the third novel of the Inheritance Cycle, Brisingr, the plot begins to change. For those who do not read novels, I am sorry to say that you will never see Eldest in film form let alone Brisingr or the fourth in the cycle. Why? Well, it's obvious isn't it? The Eragon film was just plain horrible. Chances are you could probably do better filming in your backyard with your flip phone (slight hyperbole). I am not sure how to review this one without spoiling it, but it outright ****. If you want to see why, rent it out, just make sure you have a back up video to stop yourself from destroying the television.

Twilight4
Nov 13, 2010
If you loved the novels then you WON'T love this. Why because there are hardly any moments when the air isn't filled with an awkward feeling. In the novels the characters are very confident and likeable. In the film they are compromising and, well . . . stoned.

Avatar6
Nov 13, 2010
Avatar is a great movie, but just how great is it? While I thought it was pretty cool that they based all the air and space craft on ones from the Halo series, the story was a bit of a disappointment. I was never really into Pocahontas or Ferngully when a was younger, and I was never into old movies like Dancing with Wolves, so the story of Avatar did not really stick out to me. Visually the film was quite enticing with it's colourful scenery, it was not all that interesting because of the story. Avatar had much potential, but I am not so sure it lived up to its potential.รข
