Eragon

Eragon may not be a big Oscar contender, but in a movie season filled with blood diamonds, fascist soldiers and Idi Amin, it provides a much-needed afternoon of PG-rated family-friendly adventure.

The holiday movie season's only epic fantasy adventure, certainly gets no points for originality. It's such a clone of "The Lord of the Rings," it probably could lose a plagiarism suit. There's also a heavy dash of "Harry Potter." All bases are covered.

There is little complexity in the social, cultural or political shape of this world. So this film, directed by visual effects master Stefen Fangmeier and written by Peter Buchman in a straightforward manner, cannot escape the rote nature of such a fantasy.

Director Stefen Fangmeier, a well-regarded special-effects man and second-unit director ("Master and Commander," "Galaxy Quest") does a superb job visualizing the CGI dragon. But Fangmeier is working with a script without a single memorable line and far too many characters and creatures with silly names.

If some of the characters won't be returning for the sequel, no matter. In all likelihood, neither will the audience.

When the studio tells us that parental guidance is suggested, does it occur to them that they should have taken their own advice?

Eragon is laughably bad, mind-bogglingly derivative, and easily one of the worst movies of the year.

Levando em conta que nunca li os livros, o filme não me parece sertão ruim, tem bons efeitos e a historia apesar de em certos pontos ser lenta, não é tão ruim. pra mim o filme tem um 6.

Guys, if you’ve never read the book Eragon, then there’s a chance you might enjoy this movie ( which was my case when I saw this movie for the first time)... then one day I read the amazing book and then rewatched this movie... oh, how much I regretted doing that!!

A weak but not that horrible movie except if you read the books. I read the books and liked them but must admit that they borrowed many concept and ideas from different other sources like Earthsea, Dragonriders of Perm and you can easily relate the characters to their original trilogy Star Wars counterparts;-). The movie however is pretty generic and uninspiring. When you use tropes and archetypes you should do it in a more entertaining way. For me the first few minutes destroyed all hopes. It lacks nearly everything that makes the books interesting and I hate being the “The books are better” guy. Here however it is a fitting description as even the critics said they **** out the magic out of it. Another point is the acting is sometimes pretty wooden. The special effects and costumes are however really good. The CGI has redeeming qualities and I think it will age very well. The story is condensed and unimaginative. It is however not that bad as in the worst films of all times sense. It is below average and maybe rushed or handle without care. Overall I would skip this movie if you have read the books and even if you don't have read them. It is fast forgotten. If you like reading I would recommend the books except the last one which is an anthology of stories with nearly no content. It is viewed as cash grap and I think rightfully deserved it.

This was a bad adaptation, I loved the books as a teenager and this disappointed me greatly.
